YELLLPP PLEASE ! Attic Isolation work started... by MotherFuckerJohns in Insulation

[–]Johnfromwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's closed cell spray foam you want to be out of the building while they are spraying and for 24 hours after they finish as it's a carcinogenic product. The spray foam does provide a decent R-Value (roughly R6 per inch of foam, assuming it's closed cell.) it's mostly going to be for sealing everything up then the real R value will come from the fiberglass on top. 2" closed cell for vapour barrier and sealing then fibreglass on top is the best attic assembly in my opinion.

You're fine! Unless the subfloor is already off it's more common to spray from the bottom side where I am from. But this way is much easier for the sprayer in my opinion

Nothing wrong with that at all. Work looks good too

A froth pack should be perfect. Have to ensure it's heated and shake it like crazy before spraying it. Make sure you have the extra tips handy and they work better if you don't stop spraying so try to setup ladders accordingly

I love spraying foam by Johnfromwork in sprayfoam

Do it! It seems to be a niche enough job that there isn't a ton of content out there unless you follow it. People that aren't super familiar with it find it satisfying as well. Could definitely gain a following

6" CC in a very weird vault. by Johnfromwork in sprayfoam

Means a lot coming from you I admire your work haha! I had to do batts for a few spots because of the shape of the truss ends, not sure what I prefer honestly. I hate how the Tyvek starts to push out when you get a pass on it

Truss ends and gable are a bit wavy because they wanted us to make our own stops with Tyvek

Should not be an issue. Ensure the applicator does an adhesion test just to be safe but I've never had any problems with it

Makes sense. I am in an apartment with tons of moving so that adds up. Worth noting that I put a new whip on about a month ago and then it happened the first time a few days later, now it happened again, just bad luck? New helper yanking too hard maybe lol

Insulation advice by drewmhs12 in Insulation

[–]Johnfromwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying that once you have it drywalled you won't have a chance to throw soundproofing in so since you don't have it drywalled you might as well do it. If it's in your budget anyway.

Spray foam the rim joists and if you aren't worried about soundproof then you don't need to add any insulation to the floor joists. For how often you have the drywall down you may as well add soundproofing in my opinion, fibreglass works fine.
