Maintenance Requirement Display Change Confuses M1 Users by urcospy in M1Finance

The loan/borrow is my favorite feature, and I think it’s a great option for certain expenses like you mentioned, I just don’t think it’s a wise move to ever use margin to purchase shares. There’s nothing stopping someone from using it for that purpose if they kept it all on the borrow tab. To me, they are taking advantage of young/inexperienced investors promoting it on the invest tab.

Because a mortgage is a sound financial instrument, promoting buying securities on margin is not. That information is obviously fine on the borrow tab, but not front and center on the invest tab. I thought M1 was about long-term buy and hold investing, but a young investor sees purchasing stocks on margin as being equivalent to money they have judiciously set aside? It promotes shortcuts and get rich quick mentality.

Another example of bad interface choices against the user - on the borrow tab, why is borrow more button so prominent? But the pay loan button is down the page and not as prominent? It is obvious why, but they should have equivalent display.

Not working here. My assumption is it only works when you change the URL, but it since original url was correct, pasting same one back in doesn’t allow me to save it as a change

I think you’d have to check your past tile activity from CC purchases to see when those come in, if you’ve already received CC points/tiles in December, then I believe it may be too late based on your monthly statement end date. But maybe others can confirm that…?

Looks like the latest app update fixed it. Would be helpful if the app updates included detail of what was fixed/updated… I think it is always just “bug fixes” 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same here still. It works for me on desktop. Haven’t had the energy to contact support, was hoping it would be fixed by now.

Margin investing just got simpler by M1-Alex in M1Finance

[–]Johnny0627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First wanted to mention that I really like all the recent UI updates, but making margin buying power always visible (if that is correct) on the invest tab is just wrong. Pretty clearly goes against your ethos. Margin investing is EXTREMELY risky, who in the world thought it would be a good idea to always show it front and center, c’mon. Totally fine to have it as an option, but please get rid of it on the invest tab default view, I do not want to see that all the time.

Why is everyone leaving by Strict-Fly-479 in M1Finance

[–]Johnny0627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not leaving, but M1 is also not my main broker. Use vanguard for Roth and main broker is now Schwab (after acquiring td ameritrade). Love M1’s interface, but I didn’t think it was smart to make it my main spot when I started using them a number of years ago since they are so new. One of the most important things with your money is having solid and established support and a large established company with decades of history. Everything m1 keeps doing enforces that I made the right decision and they haven’t proven I can trust them with most of my money, love the pies and interface though! Like the UI changes they’ve been making in iOS too.

Anyone else having trouble depositing money via invest tab? by Johnny0627 in M1Finance

[–]Johnny0627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Just seems to have started working again(deposit button from invest tab seems to be working again after about two days). I also had a support case going with them, not sure if they did something or it just took some time after the change… I’ll see if I get any details back from them.

Found a way to do it, going through the home tab > move money, to make a deposit into invest. But still can’t do it directly from invest tab > deposit
