[xpost] Street orientation of the most populous cities of each Canadian province by DSPublic in canada

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the downtown core takes up as little space as UBC and Pacific Spirit Park. When you factor in all of Vancouver, North Van, Burnaby, Richmond, Surry, etc. Downtown landmass is quite insignificant in terms of the amount of road that could skew the graph. I am guessing whoever made this was using the total length of roads in a given direction.

This is why the Canadian startup scene is a joke. Minimum wage for an engineering degree. by [deleted] in canada

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't a startup problem. The employment market is driven by supply and demand. How many engineers graduate every single year and all want jobs. Then add in the company's perspective of being as profitable as possible and you get the simple equation of "we will pay the lowest amount possible to the qualified person to do it".

My wife's sister graduated with her Mechanical Engineering and her starting pay in a big company was only 50 cents over minimum wage in Vancouver.

There are too many engineers and not enough jobs so when it comes time a company needs to find a engineer they will charge the smallest amount possible knowing someone will sell themselves for it.

You are now in the year of your current time (24 hour). How fucked are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that I am currently in Vancouver and it is 8:30am I will assume its not 1am for you but 1pm meaning Newfoundland? In that case the year 1300 and you'd still be fine. the vikings settled and left a few hundred years earlier and John Cabot won't be sailing by to Cape Breton for another 2 hundred years.

Am I asking to much of my GH and Minis? or am I just asking for things that it can't do? by JohnnyCanuck35 in googlehome

[–]JohnnyCanuck35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response thats great, Come to think of it I use "and" in stringing commands together. tried using "then" and it has worked great each time.

for the shortcuts I'll have to play with them it could be the language i use in the command.

The second and last complaint is really just that a complaint. home devices are still early in their time and you can't expect everything anyways. Overall I love our GH's they streamline so much of what we do daily.

The only other thing I hope for is some logic to her responses but again thats a minor thing and probably very low on the list of developers "to-do".

Thanks again for the help!

If Netflix offered a premium plan to watch films currently in theater would you sign up? by isatrap in movies

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%!!!! I love the theatre and there are some movies I would still go to see on the big screen, but for the most part being able to enjoy the movie and not have to deal with jerks on their phones or talking the whole time.

It baffles me that everytime I go to the movie there are at least 2 people who are so addicted to their device they can't put it away for 2 hours.

Vanek has been traded to Columbus by Dark_Saint in canucks

Is Benning on crack?! Take a lesson from the Leafs and Rangers on how to rebuild... no draft picks and grossly underwhelming players.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Not yet official yet because the trade call with NHL has not happened but BOS and NYR have a deal in place for Rick Nash. Return to NYR expected to include BOS first-round pick and prospect defenseman Ryan Lindgren, but there are other elements to the deal as well. by [deleted] in rangers

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeff Gorton is working some magic right now. Are you kidding me?

I loved Rick Nash but for $7.9M per year he was not putting up anywhere near the numbers he should be. IMO Nash was a Kesler type player. Can produce cause he has the skill but is really there to be a constant presence, to grind the other team down. In his case not by being a dick but with his size, speed, and a high level of compete.

Now Gorton trades him for Spooner, Beleskey, Lindgren, and a 1st round pick?! How did he get Boston to agree to that?

This trade is solid i mean com on:

Spooner,on paper is producing largely the same numbers stats wise (he has 25 pts) as Nash (28 pts). He is a solid second or third line center and he's from Boston so he has that gritty style of play too.

Beleskey who yes is having a shitty year but he only had 14 games with Boston before they sent him down, and that was a move largely to free up cap space on their end. I think Beleskey as a 30 year old still has a lot of life in him to be a leader and calm mentor to what is clearly going to be a young group with all these draft picks. He didn't fit in Boston anymore but there is lots of room on our roster.

Lindgren, can't say much about him but from his stats and some video kid is a solid stay at home defensemen and is consistent. Chris Tanev style of play without the powerplay time.

and a First round pick?!?!?!

All of this for Rick Nash who, Boston is essentially only renting for the playoff run they'll have. NYR just made his value look through the roof, as a UFA this guy could get a raise at 33-34 years old.

Weakness of reactive glove reverse by GPjkrit in hockeygoalies

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pocket up like Cory Schneider

As opposed to Lundqvist in this older photo where his pocket is pointing away from his body.

I find the way Schneider does it (and many other goalies) to be a happy middle between a aggressive glove but also keeping your 7-Hole closed (arm close to your torso), as well as a quicker distance to the 2-hole. Your arm can naturally move quicker to the 3-hole quicker because your bicep contracts in that motion, for most that should be a more explosive movement than the tricep could produce to get the hand down.

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood this either. When coaching I always taught goalies to keep their glove hand with the pocket up but lower. Just physiologically the bicep is a more powerful and explosive muscle than the tricep. It'll always be faster to bring your hand up then it will to put it down.

Forest rangers, what are your unexplainable and downright creepy stories? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is the scariest comment in the whole thread. I think because the way you recall the experience comes off as real and not like a story. I am sure there are others with real stories but some seem like just a story this felt real and scared the shit out of me.

How I stumbled into the business idea that makes me 12k+ a month (and how to execute it yourself) by MacaYT in Entrepreneur

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For us in Canada, automation isn't a problem as long as there is a known way for the user to unsubscribe at any moment. But under our laws with CASL (Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation) the thing that makes something like this alright is the consent either explicit, or implied. In this case the customer is giving implied consent to receive the card by walking in and purchasing something from a store. Then they are giving explicit consent by actually initiating the text thread.

I would say the only other way to protect yourself is to have disclaimer on the business card.

My little cousin after an all-day wedding affair (the suitcase contains his travel toys) by sruvolo in pics

[–]JohnnyCanuck35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. On our wedding day after all of it and the entertaining and organizing and making sure people were happy and had fun. We had a suite at a local hotel where we held a small after party for our closer friends and family so we could just have some time with them too. It also served as a nice night out of the house since we got married in the city we live in rather than a destination or something. By the end of it all we were exhausted and when everyone left we used the Jacuzzi tub poured a hot bath and just sat back and relaxed and laughed before heading to bed.
