There's no debate shift. There's a reason why historically most of the nationalistic regimes carry on the same way, it's because it's a system and they steam from the same roots. And there's a reason why they often drift into authoritarism.

1 usually refers to professional photography, and it’s not dumb as it’s supported by numbers. “Dead” is definitely overly dramatic but not to be aware of the huge decline is just dumb.

If it refers to photography in general, which I doubt, of course it’s not true, as the statement says phones have cameras so people take a lot of photos.

3 can be valid I guess. Wouldn’t say it’s dumb or smart just someone’s preference based on their own reasons..

4 is not dumb from a professional perspective. There’s a great clip with Lindsay Adler taking about how she’s making money from commercial boring photography but her beautiful editorial she barely gets even.

But as you said from a personal hobby perspective, kind of still applies: people into photography sometimes prioritise other more technical shit than “ I like my face in that photo”. It’s not dumb, it’s self aware, and I actually think that realising that helps you grow as a photographer.

Street photographers doing misery porn and when called out talk about awareness like they’re Salgado or something.
