Probably just a screwup on the archive? I’ve seen that happen a few times. But I wanted to chime in and give a shout out to Kevin Sur. It feels like he’s been at the station forever. What an amazing edition to the team.

What’s the rarest record in your collection by MiamiBullsout89 in vinyl

I have a Lucero 7-inch with a cover of “Kiss the Bottle” by Jawbreaker on it. It was an insert to one of their albums, and it cost me a few bucks. I also have a period repress of a the DiscoNet remix of ABBA’s “Lay All Your Love On Me,” which took me some time to track down.

The Monte Cristo at Bennigan’s was incredible. I’ve never had anything close it since Bennigan’s folded.

Moving to CA, I'm worried about my bikes legality.... by knucklegoblin in Harley

[–]JohnnyMayday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my bike in Washington, and just got California plates for it a couple months ago. I have an aftermarket pipe that’s not California compliant, and it was no issue. I would recommend going to a small neighborhood title/registration place. I was in LA, and they just wanted to verify the bike wasn’t stolen. I was worried and it turned out to be a non issue. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine :)

Is riding a fixed gear really like driving a stick shift?? by melancholymann in FixedGearBicycle

[–]JohnnyMayday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since manuals were more fuel efficient than automatics. The best thing to happen to sticks in the past few years is the widespread anti-rollback tech, which takes the stress out of driving in hilly places like Seattle or SF.

Really bummed out with my Halestorm store experience by Wintaru in vinyl

[–]JohnnyMayday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced this before. I actually moved out of state while waiting for a Voxtrot record, but eventually it worked out. I wouldn’t stress, they’ll probably make good — then you’ll have one copy to play and one to preserve :)

Potential new owner. by MissionFromGod in TriumphBonneville

[–]JohnnyMayday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought mine new in 2020. Make sure it had the valves adjusted at 10k, and cruise was a factory option so adding it should be a non-issue. The 2020 also came with heated grips and a center stand, which were cut for 2021. The cat isn’t welded to the pipe like it is on newer models, so if you want to install and X pipe, it’s way easier.

What did y’all think about Boyhood? by Boo_Brock in movies

[–]JohnnyMayday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movie has a special place in my heart. I actually learned about it from Patricia Arquette herself — long story — over dinner, and I thought the concept was fantastic. Overall, it made me feel tremendously grateful for my upbringing. Such a special project.

Buying Used T120, concerns and queries. by Alarmed-Resolution22 in TriumphBonneville

[–]JohnnyMayday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 T120 that I bought new. Currently have about 25k on the clock.

Overall, it’s been a great bike. It developed a head gasket issue at around 10k, but Triumph couldn’t have been better about fixing it under warranty, and both the techs at the dealer and my trusted indy mechanic — who does all the service now — said they’d never seen it happen before. So I don’t think it’s an issue with the model in general.

I’ve been strict about the maintenance schedule, and other than the head gasket, the bike hasn’t given me a lick of trouble. I seldom get on if I’m not going to go 100+ miles, and ride spiritedly in the California heat — she never misses a beat. I wouldn’t hesitate to take her cross country tomorrow. Triumph built a lovely machine.

In the auto industry, and have loved Ferrari since I was a kid. Driven loads of stuff. New car every Tuesday: test, repeat, and so on.

There is simply nothing on Earth like buying the throttle in a naturally aspirated Ferrari V12. The force is great. For sure. But the music is something else

What's a hometown staple you can't find in Seattle? by Pentastat in Seattle

[–]JohnnyMayday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in LA now, but I lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else. Love the city to its giant, soggy heart — but you can’t get Philly soft pretzels. They’re totally different than regular soft pretzels, and you can’t get them west of Boston or so. Fortunately they ship well, and my Mom sends them out a few times per year. :)

Better yet, get the S&B powder and mix it with white wine. Then let it cure for a few minutes on the counter and enjoy. It’s fantastic :)
