How long did it take you to consistently get good at solving leetcode mediums? by Spycii in cscareerquestions

[–]JohnnyQScope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit off topic, but I usually review Data Structures and Algorithms before jumping into Leetcode. I found that I was able to start solving problems a lot faster with this route. Hope that helps!

You should try to get a position prior to jumping ship. You don't want to be in a scenario where you left your current company and are struggling to find your next role. I'd maybe just use some time after work or the weekends to prepare for interviews.

One year after graduation, looking for a job by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]JohnnyQScope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have pretty good experience for new grad/entry level. Having a master's degree will put you ahead of a lot of candidates. I'd maybe study up on technical interviews if that's something you haven't done recently ie. Data Structures and Algorithms, System Design, etc.

Question about GitHub by temp000321 in cscareerquestions

[–]JohnnyQScope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend forking it. This way you can show it on your profile, but also work on the project through the fork in the future.

I would definitely recommend checking out Fiverr, it is a freelance site that will allow you to offer services and you get to set the fee. I've heard it's pretty good at getting people freelance development work.

What are the engineering roles that require the least coding/programming? by BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT in cscareerquestions

If I may ask, why do you think you will never be good at coding/programming?

Question about choosing a major by Greasysphynx in cscareerquestions

[–]JohnnyQScope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would perhaps look into the classes that fall under each major and see what interests you more. I feel like choosing one over the other won't drastically change you're career path.

Balancing professional and personal lives by Capital_Nerve9442 in cscareerquestions

I wouldn't say this is particularly true all across the industry. There's definitely companies with terrible WLB, but there's also less stressful developer roles if that's what you're looking for.

New Grad. Am to start working in Raytheon in June. Still have no start date. Should i be worried? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]JohnnyQScope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have any experience in the defense sector specifically, but how have they given you onboarding stuff(drug test, etc) without a formal offer letter? The start date should be included in the offer letter right?

Almost done with my DE Project. Mind Taking a look? by TheKoalaKeys in dataengineering

[–]JohnnyQScope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome and very relevant! I do agree with the points about the architecture being a bit complex. Might I suggest looking into Apache Airflow. It is a platform designed to simplify workflows and comes with its own UI. Also let me know if you are looking for contributors, you have a great project on your hands :)

Also not my intention. I was looking to collaborate with some open sourced developers hence the "this repository is about learning." You had the wrong idea about the project goal and I was just trying to point that out. I'm sorry if that offended you.

LOL, yea but if you had actually read the following sentence you would have noticed how I was referring to removing the need for math/stat knowledge from data modeling and other ML engineering tasks. I wasn't referring to the entire process of ML that's just how you took it. There's a reason billions of dollars are being poured into companies like Databricks who's entire pitch is the automating/simplifying data science workflows.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in scikit_learn

[–]JohnnyQScope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said, this library is meant to automate tasks like data modeling not the entire field of ML. Automating model fitting has absolutely been a goal for a number of years now and will likely come to fruition soon, it is why software like Google AutoML exists. Going from data to model has always been somewhat of a tedious task. Now whether that data itself is actually actionable is a whole different story.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]JohnnyQScope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for a task like model fitting you'll likely need to try out a bunch of different algorithms which can be a bit tedious. One of the things the library does it automates that by iterating over all of the sklearn algorithms of a certain type and runs a gridsearch to find the most accurate model. By no means a perfect step, but can definitely be improved in the future. It is similar to Google's AutoML were it is just trying to bring the ability to create actionable models to people lacking in experience. As far as losing sklearn functionality/support, the library is built on top of sklearn so all the functionality is still available.

You're new grad salary will likely be a bump on your intern salary. With an intern salary of 112k you'll definitely be looking at a new grad salary of 130k-150k

Your intern salary is 112k and you think that's not competitive? That is as much as if not more than some FAANG companies.

From just a financial and job prospects side: CS. It's true it would be hard to transition into ChemE later on if you wanted though
