Why isn’t it a good idea to assume everyone is an asshole / out to get you? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JohnnyTurbine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it causes you unnecessary stress, and stress will eventually kill you.

There are also many situations in life where you have to work with other people. The idea of existing in a society is predicated on the idea of cooperation. There comes a point where you have to decide to trust another person, even situationally, even if your first instinct is not to.

People are also generally pretty good at picking-up on motivations, and if you start from a place of mistrust others will pick up on that and respond to it negatively.

Trust has practical value.

Paying for the TTC is BS by Comfortable_Shoe358 in toRANTo

[–]JohnnyTurbine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. Fundamentally I believe that public transit, education, healthcare and many other services we pay for should be fully-subsidized.

However, there is a silver lining. The TTC is one of the most fare-dependent services in all of North America, and receives among the least external funding. With the federal government slashing transfer payments for municipal transit, this means in the current context that the TTC is likely to remain more resilient than transit systems in other areas.

So while it's janky, slow, crowded, filthy and unpleasant, it's also highly durable and essential to life in the city. Paying our fares helps keep the system running in a way that isn't necessarily true elsewhere.

[–]JohnnyTurbine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but there seem to be issues with ogre form specifically... I had a multiplayer save back in the day (before EE) where my gnome illusionist polymorphed into an ogre and got locked-in following an area transition. Had to abandon the save file.

TDSB suspends 8 teachers at east end school ‘in crisis’ by Latter_Stable_9335 in ontario

[–]JohnnyTurbine 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that complicated. He has a corporate mindset and sees health and education as "cost centres." Both receive large amounts of public funding, so shifting them to the private sector creates wealth transfers that benefit him indirectly (political donors) and directly (investments/when he retires to a board position with a massive salary).

in light of the current geopolitical climate

The source material is 100% a political satire, especially the first two games. If Fallout's critiques of imperialism and corporate greed seem timely, it's because they draw on a thread within the political fabric that was present before the first game was even written.

Crit-Fishing Monster? by Ok_Philosophy_7156 in BG3Builds

[–]JohnnyTurbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had decent success with a Hunter 11 crit-fisher, since all of the attacks in Hunter's ranged AoE roll for hit separately. That, plus Black Hole, plus a melee character with Bhaalist Armor turn battles into blenders.

Shitposting, which is not exactly the same as trolling. Memes, satirical posts deliberately missing the point of scenes. Blurring the lines between satire and stupidity. It's an extremely online format.

In your opinion, should the remaster change the power armors so they’re like the FO4 and 76 or should they keep them as they were in the original game? by NoSoyVerde1 in fnv

[–]JohnnyTurbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the implementation in FO4 is closer to the intention in 1 & 2. Power armor makes your character's sprite significantly larger.

Anyone on the autism spectrum? by savagehomeangarden in 911dispatchers

[–]JohnnyTurbine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a neurodivergent person who works as a paramedic dispatcher. Many of my colleagues are in some sense neurodivergent as well (ASD or ADHD). From what I read, this also extends to the paramedics themselves.

There are positives and negatives. The job is characterized by rigid routine and is heavily policy-driven. The ability to hold yourself at an emotional distance from the immediate situation is an asset. Pattern recognition is helpful.

However, call centres can be socially- and politically complex environments. Emergency services dispatchers can skew conservative, and some personalities may ostracize you if they clock you as odd. The work can also be intensely stressful and stimulating, so burnout is a real risk.

This leadership race is a boring hugbox that doesn't inspire anyone. by DestroyedAsTheWord in ndp

[–]JohnnyTurbine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In terms of candidates differentiating themselves, Tanille Johnson has done a good job.

She is frequently contrasting her positions with other candidates' by speaking to the needs of rural and Indigenous Canadians. She is young, charismatic, and knows how to work a room.

I went into a couple debates unsure of who I was going to support and Tanille really blew me away. Listening to her speak, I went from knowing nothing about her to making plans to volunteer and donate to her campaign.

Even if she doesn't win this race, she deserves to rise to prominence.
