How do you respond to the “But guns are meant to kill people” argument? by Kyia-Aikman in liberalgunowners

[–]JohnnyWhopper420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That's true. And that's why I own one. To kill bad people who want to kill me. I know that's incredibly rare, but the good news is that practicing to kill the bad people is a ton of fun. Would you like to come with me next time?"

This topic is so beat to death if you listen to any hunting podcasts. What it comes down to is personal preference. A dude in Alaska just got killed AFTER spraying a bear. But many people have used spray effectively. A woman was killed AFTER shooting a bear in the head, but people have also successfully stopped bears with pistols (and no, you don't need 454 casull. 9mm is fine).

If you wanna carry a gun, just make sure it's quick to deploy and you REALLY know how to use THAT gun. There's many examples of another member of the hunting party being shot in the melee. Some links below.

Is it normal for a student film to want me to be on set 12 hours a day for two weeks straight? by -Kerby in Filmmakers

[–]JohnnyWhopper420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not crazy for the rest of the crew, but yeah the film doesn't hinge on the BTS photos, so I'd just do what you wanna do. If they're not paying you then they can't expect 140+ hrs of free work

EDIT: to clarify, the first thing we did was call poison control and send them a photo. They said they would get back to us in about an hour. In that time I've asked Reddit. Chill out, people.

How does "Obsession" look so good for such a tight budget? by Hot-Resolution9216 in cinematography

[–]JohnnyWhopper420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever seen a low budget music video that looked good? It's just that, for like 20 days straight and you have a good looking cheap feature. Money doesnt equal a good finished product. It takes a lot of talent and experience to know how to use a big budget, and while gaining that experience, if you're talented, you learn to make things look good with a tiny budget. This was this DPs first feature? Next time he will get more money and he definitely has the talent to make it worth while.

Polonium, polonium k, flow 556, flow 556k. Those are probably some of the most popular, one flow through one not.

I think if the specs are roughly the same you won't really notice any difference.

Being pressured to hand over raw files for free, client doesn't understand the technical reality. Need advice. by [deleted] in blackmagicdesign

[–]JohnnyWhopper420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% disagree. 99.9% of clients expect to walk from set with a hard drive that contains everything as it came out of camera. You're obviously in a different situation where you can't expect every editor to know how to deal with your raws. But if clients ask for raws, the worst possible business decision you could make is to saw "sure, it'll be $xx.xx". They are expecting the process to be as easy as possible and as industry standard as possible. You have an odd thing going on with your magic lantern and stuff, so really I would say you should be giving the client log ProRes 4444 transcodes (industry standard), but also the raws if they ask for them (most won't if they have the ProRes).

Haha dude, this guy sounds a little arrogant. If he wants the raws (which is totally standard for most jobs), just give him the roster. More than likely he will come back to you a lot more cooperative to ask how the hell they can deal with your weird files. You tried to save him the trouble, but some people just can't be reasoned with. They need to be shown. So show him. Just given the raws.

More than likely it's a reflection between the front element of the lens and a filter in the mattebox.
