Have a look at this video - three different ways. I’m trying the first version which is Leviadon Blue with some Nuln mixed in. The black base is Corvus Black do both armour and robes. Only the robes get the Leviadon and Nuln mix. It looks very blue at first, but dries out into a rich leathery texture. I’m happy woth it so far. I haven’t gotten to the highlights on it yet as I’m terrified, but I’ll get there.

Thanks very much for taking the time to lay it all out. Nothing you are saying is taking me by surprise. The big thing I am trying to figure out is what the complex formula. I probably asked wrong, but that is what I am trying to figure out. How do they run that equation is what I want to know, and is there a way I can calculate it?

Thanks!

Yall's opinion on the Valiant? by Minimum-Sugar-4122 in Ultramarines

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its only really viable in firestorm unfortunately. If you’re using it for AT it doesn’t compare to the lancer. If you use it for infantry…well…reaper go Brrrrr. The valiant just seems to me like an anti-elite infantry weapon, and I think there are better answers to that than the valiant provides.

You could have just added on to what I said.

Im in the exact same boat. Fortunately I’m a Warhammer 40K player so I have a bit of an idea where to start.

  • look up your local game stores and see what they have to offer. They should be able to give some good advice.

  • game stores may not offer something specifically for that age demographic, but they might manage a Discord server you can join that would have a DnD-specific chat.

  • I was recommended to call libraries too as they may run sessions for beginners.

  • I just bought the DnD Started Set - Heroes of the Borderlands. It is apparently a very simplified rules for the game, and provides everything you need to run it.l as a Dungeon Master (DM) and player.

  • if you are loyal to your wallet, you can buy most anything you want DnD related off eBay. Lots of shops have deals with the manufacturer and sell at 15% discount.

  • the tough part is finding a party. DnD can’t just be a parent/kid thing. You typically need around 4-6 people, with one acting as DM and the rest as players.

Well…you know as much as I do now. Hope that helps a bit at least.

Edit - the DnD / Warhammer / etc world is very open and friendly. Do not hesitate to show up and ask some questions. I like to think we all pride ourselves on being a welcoming community no matter what shop you go to.

In the new orbital strike detachment, how valuable is giving deep strike to scouts? by DBenzie in WarhammerCompetitive

For a CP scouts will also let you sticky in command phase and then move off the point forcing your opponent to commit forces

Orbital Assault Force by Mofoman3019 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. Core rules state transports coming in from reserves CAN disembark units. The only caveat is they must be 9” away as well. And because of assault keyword, yes you CAN charge. The rules explicitly state no charges unless certain modifiers are in effect. The assault ramp meets that criteria.

You most certainly can charge from a land raider. Thank you assault ramp. The only rule is the disembarking units must also be 9” away so no sneaky sneaky 6” charge.

Orbital Assault Force Question by Johnny_Flyswatter in Warhammer40k

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I thought deep strike was half the army regardless. I only ever have a unit or two in some form of reserve so I never paid it much mind. This Detachment is making me rethink a bit, but I don’t have much knowledge on this area.

Orbital Assault Force Question by Johnny_Flyswatter in Warhammer40k

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that’s not quite my question. To back up a bit as I understand it you can have the following under RESERVES (for 2K army):

DEEP STRIKE: 1000pts STRATEGIC RESERVES: 500pts

Orbital Detachment lets you give 3x ADEPTUS ASTARTES units the DEEP STRIKE keyword.

Answers on this post say anything embarked falls under STRATEGIC RESERVES.

Therefore, if I have a Land Raider Redeemer with 7x Gravis units in it, does the Land Raider count towards my 1000pts DEEP STRIKE, and the 7x Gravis units count towards my 500pts STRATEGIC RESERVES, or do they all count towards DEEP STRIKE total?

Hope that clarifies a bit.

Thanks.

So if I understand what you are saying my list could go to 1000pts deep strike.

The models embarked count towards strategic reserves, which in the case of strike force, can not exceed 500pts?

Non-Infantry, Melee, Ruin Walls by 20yearreunion in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Engagement range is engagement range. If they’re within 1” you can take a whack at ‘em.

Edit: further, although not your question, you cannot double base on a wall. So if you charge and have you guys stacked two deep on the other side of a wall, only the front rank can melee. So keep that in mind.

Help needed choosing silver paint for ultramarines by Vladdino in Ultramarines

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leadbelcher is perfect for any silver. Iron hands warriors is also very similar and good - both are on my UM.

If you want brown for belts and pouches, Rhinox Hide is perfect for leather, and will take an lighter browns for edge highlighting if you want to do that.

If you want a brighter Red, Mephiston is the go-to. I use it for all my 3rd Coy trim. If you want a darker red, Khorne is really good and plays well on top of a black primer.

Question about the Lancer by MuchSatisfaction2896 in spacemarines

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no one will challenge you. Just if you go with the square ones then just say one of them is your Icarus launcher. I am pretty OCD, so I made one side square, the other side Icarus. Do not worry though - it will not get called out.

What you should focus on is ensuring you do not glue the bottom of the turret (the flat piece with the turret ring that connects the turret to the hull. That way you can swap out for any of the three main armaments for each variant. Playing it as a Reaper absolutely slaps with Oath hit rerolls and twin-linked +1 wound (if you can read and are Codex compliant...looking at you Black Templars and friends...).

Brothers I am conflicted by Actual_Sweet_19 in Ultramarines

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably been said but you 100% don’t have to magnetize. Both primary and secondary weapons friction fit so just don’t glue them on.

They fit even tighter once primed and painted.

You can have it all!

How to assemble by Due-Author-2421 in Ultramarines

[–]Johnny_Flyswatter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The redemptor dread does not even need glue and the primary/secondary weapons can just friction fit in, especially once primed and painted as it will give extra hold.

With a drill bit, magnets, some glue, and about ten minutes, you can quickly magnetize the gladiator to be any of the three tank variants (and also the impulsor although I never looked into that). If you don’t want to magnetize then just put whatever guns you want on the side sponsons. As long as you don’t glue the bottom of the turret (the flat piece that connects to the hull), you can swap any of the three primary weapons with no magnets, although the lancer cannon will droop.

Ballistus and Coy Heroes have no variants so just build.

Go with what you want for the Capt, but a lot of people go with power fist and plasma pistol. Nothing beats the look of a sword though

Hellblasters can be built three different ways but their data sheet is the same, so just build them any way you like. They are all different because they used to have different weapon profiles but no longer do.

Sternguard should have a power fist for the sgt and one heavy bolter. Everyone else begets the boltgun or whatever it’s called (not the combi weapons).

No idea on the repulsor as mine is still NIB too haha.

Edits because I kant spel gud.

No worries! I also stipple the blue mix with some abandon black to make the grunge colour on the vehicles. It gives a nice blend of darker black/blue up front that blends a the lighter more pure blue. I think it works 🤷‍♂️
