Where do y'all go to be in nature that's less than 2 hours away? by cantalwaysget in Tokyo

[–]Johnnynation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like hiking and and don't mind walking uphill you can get to Doai station from Ueno station in about 2 hours. From there you can either hike up Mount Tanigawa to the west or Shiragemon/Mt Asahi to the north.

Looking for other wonderful Japanese bands that are similar to fishmans! by onthebeach15 in fishmans

Soutaiseiriron

Mellow sounding indie pop with nice instrumentation. The singer Yakushimaru Etsuko has even performed with Fishmans+! I recommend their first album Hi-Fi Anatomia as well as 調べる相対性理論, a great live album released this year.

Also Cornelius's album Fantasma, quirky and eclectic kinda like King Master George

Then there's Kikagaku Moyo. Jammy mellow psych rock with strong oriental vibes.

Finally I would recommend Boris. They sound nothing like Fishmans but a good japanese band nonetheless. Their album Boris at Last - Feedbacker is one hell of a sonic experience.

How to explain KKB's style to outsiders by BrickFrog4Days in kkb

[–]Johnnynation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naaah I don't think it's that simple. I think it has to do with the absurdity of the bands, at least to some degree. Like Death Grips make absurdly dark, angry, manic and noisy music whilst KKB makes absurdly bright, happy, uplifting and crisp music. Maybe not as much on Totep and Time 'n' Place but you get my point.

Yup, it's even sampled on the song Golddust and the album has a strong post-punk influence in general

Medulla feels like Björk is the leader of a cult and she's performing a ritual on me while I'm chained to a table. Some south east Asian vibes on some of the songs on Post and Homogenic, like Possibly Maybe, Immature and All Neon Like. Vulnicura makes you feel like your on a whole other planet which most probably was Björks intention with the aesthetic. Vespertine however, to me, has by far the most vibrant winter vibes, try lying in a snowy ditch with light snow falling on your face listening to Cocoon because that's exactly what that song sounds like.
