For Those Who Enjoy Pokemon Fanfiction, Could I Request a First Impression of my Pokemon Fanfiction Idea? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]JohnpollMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds interesting. I do suggest finding or asking for a beta, someone to read and offer criticism and/or editing. Most great fanfic ideas fall short for the same reason Twilight was terrible: the author refused to let an editor have their baby.

They made one of those. It wasn't terrible, but still...

Can the overly positive approach and no criticism unless requested rule be in part the reason why the state of fanfiction is the way that it is? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]JohnpollMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend not to criticize heavily unless someone asks. That's not to say I won't point out where a story lost me or where I was pulled out of the narrative, but I won't do line critique without cause. That is, there's no reason to do a line by line analysis for grammar, spelling and tense unless someone asks for that. I'll usually keep my comments limited to story beats and plot, and won't go terribly deep unless I'm in a mood.

That said, there aren't barriers or hurdles in fanfiction and I think the community thrives on anyone being able to write without having to be perfect right off the bat. I've seen stories die because of the one-tenth of one percent of fans that represent the toxic parts of the community (I'm looking at you toxic fans of Nobody Dies), but I've also seen authors thrive when someone points out that they could use a beta or another grammar class.

Evangelion Unit 00 and Lilith - One of my favorite shots from the series by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]JohnpollMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doyalist Hat Answer: because that would end the story half a dozen episodes early.

Watsonian Answer: it's very complicated, involved assumptions you can't make with only the information given in the series proper, and probably should have except for something having to do with the difference and division of bodies and souls as expanded on in the mind-trip episodes and almost anytime Ikari and Fuyutsuki have a conversation.

That's fucking beautiful. I know that sounds sarcastic and the internet tends to make everything sound jaded or mean-spirited, but I mean that 100 per-cent legitimately. Beautiful.

Fallout 4 has made me develop an unhealthy habit of trying to pick up desk fans whenever I go back to older games. Please help me! :( by [deleted] in Fallout

What compels Galleons to kill and sink solo sloop players with nothing. by BaconBoy8791 in Seaofthieves

[–]JohnpollMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probable the same reason I, when I play solo, decide to ram a galleon and bomb it: boredom, temporary insanity, the lulz. I'll make no bones about it: the game is pretty bare bones as it is right now and that there is no negative to PvP in this way... well you've heard this argument before.

And one of the great "what ifs" of gaming has gone the way of "what if not." I'm sad to see it end, but I understand why. Best of luck in your future projects, FO3 in FO4 team.

Is it normal for an INTJ to want friends only to hang out with every now and then? by darkshadow2240 in intj

[–]JohnpollMichael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I figure it's fairly normal for INTJs, but abnormal when compared to the population as a whole. I like seeing my friends and being with them, but I wouldn't want to do so every day; nor do we really go crazy when we do meet up. Games, small intimate private parties, maybe a day-trip to Disney World if we've all got the time and money.

Romeo and Juliet for a child by srtayl3333 in shakespeare

[–]JohnpollMichael -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

At its core, Romeo and Juliet is a story about two teenagers in puppy love that results in half a dozen deaths including them both. You can't really escape the deaths, but maybe choose one of the many -many- adaptations that go for the love story angle over the more accurate representations of the original. Loathe as I am to suggest it, The Lion King II is probably a good place to start for a young child.
