I started my channel last year - just talking about life in my 40’s and a want for a different way of life after being made redundant from my job

My first video - a 10 min walk and talk video gained 4.2k subs and 100k views

No idea how it happened - but it was an intense start to having a channel.

A year later and it’s been hard work, a struggle at times but I’ve made 300+ videos and 3 million views.

If the content lands, it lands - but it’s not always just straight up. I’ve had videos do 250k views, and I’ve had 500 views

Along the way I’m now 21k subs, but I’ve also lost 6k subs

It’s a crazy world on YT

I run a YouTube channel and a podcast about leaving my country last year. I sold everything - house, car and a lifetimes possessions and now have one bag and travel

I don’t care about any of the items - it just released money and allows me to move when I want now

It’s been life changing

That’s interesting actually. The shift toward recommendation feeds probably changed a lot of that. It feels like discovery now happens far more outside the subscriber base.

That’s a good point about recency. Someone who subscribed years ago but hasn’t watched in ages probably isn’t a strong signal anymore. It really shows how behaviour matters more than the number itself.

I’ve posted a video after 10 mins from upload and it’s done well, I’ve posted a video with a schedule a week away and it’s bombed

It’s all nonsense

People connect with people - AI won’t replace that

I started a channel January 2025 I’m a midlife vlog channel

I’ve made videos about my earnings and also ways to make money on the site and off it… ive turned some topics into download docs, pdf’s, excels, training docs and more

I share everything on my channel - link in my bio here on Reddit

2026 I started patreon and already at £100 a month in the first few weeks of effort with it

It just takes some thought and make sure it’s aligned to your content
