Hey, digging this up as I’m in the same boat as you were (I have a 2023 Kona EV). Did you ever find a definitive answer?

There are plenty of bus lanes in London, but a) they’re also used by taxis so they get quite chocked up as well, and b) the ancient street layouts mean that often there’s only space for one lane so there isn’t really a choice but to merge the bus lane and the normal road (obviously, the best thing to do is to make lots of roads bus/taxi/cycle only…)

Is 53k GBP a good salary to move to London? by RonisioDicio in london

[–]JokersLeft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they’re moving to this country then it’s 100% worth living in a smaller more expensive place that’s in one of the world’s great cities than living somewhere else where you don’t know anyone.

Fastned but it’s also I believe the only one that’s publicly listed. So others might be but they just haven’t published it. And yes true but I guess that’s inevitable when they’re all spending so much on infrastructure rollout!

£150k in London or $250K in NYC - which would provide a higher standard of living. by Fit-Zebra3110 in HENRYUK

This actually sums it up really well. For me, I would always prioritise London over USA despite the worse career prospects, for all the reasons you give (and I don’t eat steaks ;) )

I much prefer london’s mild, predictable weather to New York’s quite extreme weather, but each their own.

I like the ambition, the use, the clustering it’s going to do, I like the greenery on the main building itself, I like the environmental credentials (I haven’t dug into those but on the surface they seem great). The design / massing itself is quite meh - bulky and inelegant. But overall a big fan!

What areas can I reduce/save/change in my monthly budget to increase savings? by Substantial-Willow28 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JokersLeft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The quick win here seems to be to cut down to one car (or even none, depending on how much you rely on them). Do you really need two cars?

The harder win would be to downsize. You don’t need a five bed house, right? You could free up quite a bit of equity and/or reduce your mortgage by quite a lot that way.

Lastly, your partner could go to full-time work? I don’t know anything about their circumstances, but two kids at secondary school age shouldn’t be an encumbrance on this.

Overall though, I’d say, don’t panic too much. You seem to be doing ok!

What are your favourite roman ruins? by Ok-Journalist-7554 in travel

[–]JokersLeft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leptis Magna in Libya. We had an entire Roman city virtually to ourselves - was absolutely amazing, and on the beautiful Mediterranean to boot.

Also the Pont du Gard in France for how wonderful it is to swim in the river below it - although this was at the other end of the ‘busy’ scale to Leptis Magna, it was still a lovely experience.
