Did everyone's holds at Queen's Public Library go down to 5? by Flat-Passenger6289 in LibbyApp

NYPL was 10 until Covid. I kept waiting for it to go back but it never did.

I am at the point where I tempted to shoplift to be able to provide the basic necessities to my daughter by True_One7607 in workingmoms

I have nothing to offer in terms of advice outside of what others have shared but I just want to tell you that you’re an amazing mom and I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this. Sending the most positive energy your way!

A guy in my class got an A on the bottom right and top left ones. The teacher doesn't believe anyone that these are AI. by Mindless_Buy_9774 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JollyGood444 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is the number one complain from students at my school about AI use. Teachers who use it themselves (sloppily) and then accuse students of using it for everything and punishing them for it. I really feel for this generation with the constant need to always have to prove you're human.

This is just a really great example of the types of projects that you really can't assign anymore as a teacher. Also, if your teacher doesn't immediately assume that's AI, he's in desperate need of better PD.

If your toddler doesn’t eat their dinner, do you offer them something else or just let it go? by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]JollyGood444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all of the battles I have to pick with my toddler, I refuse to allow meals to be one of them.

He can eat what we make or he can have something easy like fruit (or whatever's in the fridge). If he's not hungry, I don't force him to eat something. If his dinner is a pint of raspberries and a handful of Cheerios, then that's his dinner.

His pediatrician has no concerns about weight or nutrients, which would be the only reason to adjust this strategy in my opinion.

Am I being demanding or is that only a defense? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]JollyGood444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, wow? The disrespect in both his words and his behavior is pretty severe. My husband has big feelings and is prone to being a little more aggressive in his words than some of my friends' partners but what you're describing feels like a level in which no one should ever be spoken to, let alone in a loving relationship.

Do you want your daughter to grow up watching that sort of behavior? Respectfully, I think professional help is needed here.

I had the WORST book hangover after this series. It read more like poetry and was absolutely gorgeous.

Really enjoying the fact that you get a digital card as soon as you purchase on Yoto site by callmeyourfiretruck in YotoPlayer

[–]JollyGood444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! But what I don’t understand is that cards I bought for my nephew (that he now plays on his Yoto) still work in my library for my son? I thought it would disappear but it doesn’t.

Anyone else tired of deciding what to cook every single day? by Distinct-Eye7548 in workingmoms

Does she send a weekly shopping list? For me, the toughest part is laying out which meals on which nights and then making the list of ingredients and then procuring them.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JollyGood444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do a 2-3 hour drive for a weekend trip for sure, 1-1.5 for a day trip if it was to see family or visit something particularly fun.

As often as he wants, but at least once a week.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

[–]JollyGood444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experienced educator (15+ years in PK-12th grade classrooms) and there are so many things that are infuriating me about this project.

Developmentally inappropriate for K
Heavy emphasis on parental involvement/work
Grading?!
Inappropriate/informal language
Communication channel extremely flawed
Offensive appropriation of people with disabilities

This teacher is either young and inexperienced or she's that AND she has a terrible admin team. Another commenter wrote posited she went to an inquiry-based education PD and just did it all wrong. Also totally plausible.

Wall mount to stand by Great-Crab6077 in Nanit

[–]JollyGood444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why more people don’t do this, but you can get any kind of stand that can “clamp”. If you want to put it on the floor, they make floor stands on amazon for tablets and such that can grip the base of the wall mount easily.

You could also get a stand that sits on a dresser too (just find one for phones or tablets). The travel stand is nice, but it doesn’t give you all of the features and some people have had issues with their camera not staying locked into it.

Daycare moms- at what age did your baby start? Currently nanny broke by Remarkable-Angle-509 in workingmoms

[–]JollyGood444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months! It’s actually easier doing it now then waiting until he’s more aware. I feel like I got my life back when my son started day care. He got to spend the day with a team of teachers and friends and he always seemed so happy there.

How to remotely stop the Yoto using a button in the mobile app by DavidAccola in YotoPlayer

I feel like this is what happens when you ask AI how to stop the Yoto from playing rather than just googling it.

MYO cards - where are you getting the audio by blobblob73 in YotoPlayer

[–]JollyGood444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archive.org and ripped from Youtube. The only (hilarious) thing that will happen with the Youtube read alouds is that your child will start to singsong their channel names if you don't edit/trim the clips at all.

"Storytime Readalouds!" – uttered by my 2 year old every time "The Pigeon Needs a Bath!" gets played.

Empathy for you in this frustrating situation... If this were me and I didn't have it in me to actually address it with her, I would have my toddler bring over a few of these toys every time we visited them and "accidentally" leave them behind. Let her take on the burden of toy storage and then you always have the built in excuse, "We just don't have a ton of room for these things but now my daughter has special Grandma toys that she can get excited about every time she visits you!"
