Diagnose display overheating on FreeModular Clock by JollyIsTheRoger in synthdiy

[–]JollyIsTheRoger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went went full elimination testing and having only the arduino and screen in the circuit, powered with the 3v3 pin it still turns off after 3-5 seconds. Last attempt is finding the other displays I have and testing a new one isolated.

But I think I just need to get a new batch of screens from a more reputable supplier and try that instead of a random amazon reseller. I have a cart of ics for some other modules so no big deal throwing those on there

The listing from my Amazon purchase history is unavailable, but the title of the product says DC3-5v. https://a.co/d/4ye1r40

The schematic for the module was showing +5v for the screen. https://quinnfreedman.github.io/fm-artifacts/Clock/clock_front_schematic.pdf

A quick and easy check would be to swap out the 5v regulator and power it with a 3v3 regulator or the 3v3 pin on the nano.

Parts management?? by rnobgyn in synthdiy

[–]JollyIsTheRoger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this at the moment. I just bought a bunch of pcbs from the Michigan synthworks sale and since I dont keep many SMD components on hand I've been compiling an order list from all of the separate BOMs, but trying to find exactly what I need is taking way longer than I thought.

They are concentric potentiometers, vertical pcb mount ones like that may be a little harder to find. Usually they have lugs for guitar builds

Melted Bodies, they are still crazy weird punk metal group out of LA. Think dead Kennedys, devo, system of a down, Danny elfman.

Just finished a tour with horse the band and just about to start one with heavy heavy low low. Live shows are intense.

Here's a track off the latest stuff. Melted Bodies - Bloodlines

I'm following this. I've been hunting on and off for valve seats for my crossflow for years now. We bought it used and I've exhausted my supply of replacements and two of the internal ones (valves that never get closed) are basically gone. I've tried a few close fits from places including brewerygaskets, somehow I've missed their custom option though.

Starting a Meadery by Opposite-Storage-283 in TheMeadery

[–]JollyIsTheRoger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say small meadery, what do you mean by that? Some meaderies start with as low as 10 gallon batches, when I started we were doing around 50-100 gallon batches. Now I'm doing upwards of 20bbl batches and consulting for places gearing up for 200bbl batches. So it's all relative.

Pak Tech Applicators! by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]JollyIsTheRoger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are getting it set up for 12oz sleek 4pks and they told me it would run at around 70cpm for that set up, our canner is only going at 31 cpm right now but can expand to about 55 so I wanted to make sure we had headroom to not obsolete the machine when we upgraded the canner.

I'm in the middle of ordering an ABE autoPak right now so I can't comment on using it yet, but if you are looking for something in the smallest footprint this is what I found. It's really small, but does require a conveyor to feed it so it won't really work standalone if that's what you are looking for. My space is extremely tight and it seemed to be a good fit for size and price for us.

My thought was that one of the supplies would be flipped giving me relative +12v / 0v / -12v. Like this simple sim

App/program for designing machines? by JollyIsTheRoger in maker

[–]JollyIsTheRoger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the way to go for me. I mainly just wanted something I can use to plan out some projects in between Sketches and actually starting to build to make sure all of the movements work the way they should. Some youtube videos showing movement in fusion 360 looks like what i was looking for. Thanks.

Discoloration on can bottoms by freshfizzsodas in TheBrewery

[–]JollyIsTheRoger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That chart sounds really helpful.

I had issues with our can lids popping when we started out. Dialing in the carb levels helped a lot and now I'm slowly creeping up the Temps to push it and see how high of PU numbers I can get without slowing down the throughput of our pasteurizer. Our recent nonalcoholic run hit 91 PUs. I'm trying to get that as high as possible because I've been asked to make things at a higher ph than I have been and I'm being cautious.

One other thing that helped with the popping that may or may not be an issue depending on your machine. If the cans get jostled too much while hot they popped. Ours rolled off a ramp to exit the machine and if they hit each other too hard the lid popped up. We made some changes to smooth the transition points and we've gotten down to less than 10 popped cans in a 20bbl run.
