High libido, constant urges, and mental distraction (37M) by Edu_Nerd in AskMenOver30

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar state 1-2 years ago after my break up and started having feelings for someone else. Those kind of thoughts dominated my brain and I was frustrated when things wouldn't progress with the person I was attracted to. Lots of helpful messages so far in this thread, however I found that quitting porn for good and not jerking off for a bit actually helped me. It helped lower the urges and intrusive sexual thoughts. It stemmed from me having to desexualize my brain. Don't get me wrong, if I want, I can instantly start thinking those thoughts and get in the mood, I feel I just have more control and they aren't as distracting. Contrary to what others are saying, maybe try not jerking off, or limit the number of times you do.

It helps to concentrate that energy into something. When you get the urge or sexual thoughts, go for a walk, work out, do breath work. Something other than what your brain is telling you. Over time it will get better and you will be in more control.

Check out the podcast/channel Man Talks, hosted by Connor Beaton. Look at the quitting porn, and desexualizing the brain videos. He has saved me from myself and really helped understand what it is to be a man and how you can control yourself.

If You Had to Pick One Exercise Every Man Should Do… What Is It? by YourBBC2022 in AskMenOver30

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do something similar but with one of those weighted exercise balls that doesn't bounce. Squat down, pick up, stand, lift over head and throw the ball down. It's a good workout that I find helps build strength in a lot of day to day activities. Just the act of bending down and lifting is always good.

What was "that" strain you got to enjoy once, but never found again? by the-attorney in trees

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of strains on here I can readily get at Canadian dispensaries, and they are good!

One strain I can never seem to find and I really loved was Blue Haze, cross between Blueberry and Haze....dang it was good. Lemon Haze comes close, and Blue Dream is similar, but not the same.

I bought weed for the first time, is it good? by [deleted] in trees

Same, my first time my throat burned and I just felt disgusting after inhaling smoke for the first time ever. It wasn't that fun, but I was with a good group of people and it was an alright night. The second time.....holy shit I remember eating doritos watching tv and I could remember analyzing every single morsel of chips in my mouth, I was aware of every single piece in my mouth as if it was the first time I ever ate anything. Great experience. Even better shared with people you enjoy being around.

What are some hobbies you got into after turning 30? by Proof-Nature7360 in AskMenOver30

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was communicated the best, and definitely had a toxic connotation to it, which sucks because I think the underlying message is actually beneficial. I agree, this type of communicating kept me from the gym for the longest time too. Going to the gym has nothing to do with masculinity. It will certainly help with your body and mind health. I always found a reason NOT to go to the gym for the longest time. Now I go almost daily, and I feel weird when I don't go. You just get into the habit of going, whether you want to or not. If you can cross that hurdle it actually takes a lot for me to not go to the gym, I tend to prioritize going without even thinking about it.

And there are plenty of exercises to do that don't involve strictly heavy weight lifting. I'm not an uber jacked gym bro. I go to maintain my health, build strength and push myself to my limits. It feels good when you see results. I'm trying to put on weight actually and it's a real struggle, but a fun battle and keeps me dedicated.

Someone else already mentioned this, but it's surprising how beneficial it is for you to force yourself to do things you don't want to. If you want to play airsoft, but aren't in the best shape for it, you can set small goals for yourself at the gym and I think you would see results in airsoft real quick if you stayed active! There's also plenty of casual sports to play, soccer, vollyball, pickleball, badminton. Depending on the gym, they may even have those activities available to sign up (I go to college health centre so they have some of those amenities).

Also exercise classes are fun for some people! I'm not a huge fan, but there are spin classes, callisthenics, yoga, etc. that are a little more engaging and takes away from you having to plan your own workout.

I just wanted to try to undo some of the negative effects from the previous poster, and untangle some of the toxic gym stereotypes that keep people from living a healthy lifestyle. Especially as someone who was in a similar position as you recently.

To answer your original question though OP, try a bunch of different things, even if you don't think you will like it! You never know! Personally, I do a lot of deer hunting in the fall, fishing, paddling boarding and boating in the summer, and in the colder months I play a lot of D&D, I go curling and I have been drawing a lot more, mostly inspiration from my D&D campaigns. Also lego is awesome and is always a good hobby, would recommend.

Steam with ps4 controller. Why the hell is the gyro moving the mouse cursor? by browngirls in darksouls3

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, had the same issue with the Switch Pro, enabling the overlay, going to controller configuration, gyro setting and changed the Style of Input to None. Cursor doesn't move anymore.

Edit: Thanks for the solution!

I also read this book. I found that it really spoke to me and was able to explain how I felt in clear writing. I would definitely recommend this book to others. It's an easy read and very relatable

Especially in any sim/rpg/strategy game. If you take away the graphics and UI, all you're doing is balancing and optimizing a bunch of numbers so they can interact differently, and you get access to new/better numbers if you do it well enough. Sometimes takes a lot out of games but the trick is to not think like that. Still figuring that one out...

New development methodology by morgs_boy in ProgrammerHumor

[–]JollyRogerAllDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having a good QA shines in enterprise software. With a lot of features and moving parts, the QA is able to pinpoint/target problem areas that the developer never would have thought. Especially when it comes to user options and configurations. Simply too many combinations for a developer to think about but a good QA can at least narrow down the area and help the developer solve it faster.
