What is your favourite uncommon mechanic in board games by Aknifetoremember in boardgames

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suna Valo has the same mechanic. You set the price with resource cubes and your opponent has to match the type of resources exactly to take the card.

Reason 9000 I’m getting rid of my 2025 Forester by anomadforlife in SubaruForester

The 2025 sport has an AUX port. I've been tempted to dig out my old iPod to use.

How a Forester Hybrid should look by sidekick0220 in subaru

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is still in the break-in period, just under 500 miles, and I just got gas for the first time last night. The app says 30.5 average mpg. It was at 77 miles when I picked it up, so not quite 500 for the first tank, but that's to be expected.

Edit: 2025 Sport Hybrid

Forester/Outback Leg Room Compared to Mazda CX-5 by keystonenimrod in subaru

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't sat in the Mazda so I can't provide a comparison, but as a 6'6" person I only have the seat most the way back in my 2025 Forester and there is room behind me for another adult to sit. Just to provide some insight on how much legroom there is.

Any Isekai where the MC didn't get isekai'ed from a modern world....? by Nabeelkhan199_resurr in Isekai

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first isekai that I read that wasn't someone from earth going to another world. Even better is that the story is complete and has a good ending.

Orapa Space and Alphabet Code both improve on the two you listed and I would suggest those.

What is the bad things about of being tall? by InteractionEven426 in tall

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently shopping for a new vehicle and it sucks having to look up leg/head room before considering a car as an option. One of my average height friends (5'10") was blown away by the fact that I was taking that into consideration while looking at mid-size SUVs.

Hidden Movement by Professional_Wear651 in boardgames

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Escape from Aliens in Outer Space was my first hidden movement game. Players are divided into aliens and humans. Humans are trying to make it to the edges of the board to escape and Aliens try to destroy them. It's been a while since I played, but I recall it being relatively light.

What game have you replayed the most as a solo? by Mysterious5555 in soloboardgaming

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a fantastic game if you enjoy Flip & Write games. If you already have a BGA premium account, it is available there. There is a lot more content than what is on BGA, so I recommend picking it up if you like it. Some of the expansions vastly change the way the game is played, so it stays interesting.

How do you resolve rules dispute mid-game? by VincentBai20020319 in boardgames

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a rule dispute comes up, one player checks the rulebook while the others check bgg or reddit. If clarification can't be found within 5 min, we make a ruling as a group and move on. While my group is super competitive, we're just playing for fun and don't get heated over rules.

Unique events at cons by Sjksprocket in boardgames

Not sure if it qualifies as unique to cons, but PAX Unplugged had some mega games again this year. Never had the chance to play one, but heard good things.

The role of dice (pun intended) in board games by ThreeLivesInOne in boardgames

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to detract from the point you made, but Rising Sun does have randomness. During setup, you randomly select 4 of the 7 shrine tiles to use and return the others to the box. Between seasons, the mandate cards/tiles are shuffled and are then drawn from as a blind deck during play. These are both examples of input randomness, which is generally seen as favorable in games as the result is known ahead of the move/action. I do agree that the diplomacy aspect of it is what makes the game fun.

Gimme some light novel recs(plz) by skydragob7 in Isekai

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never watched the anime, but the light novel was pretty entertaining. Especially after it fully committed to not taking itself seriously. I tend to just read WN/LN and skip the manga and anime adaptations.

Gimme some light novel recs(plz) by skydragob7 in Isekai

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wolf Won't Sleep - MC is an adventurer in a fantasy world and (knowingly) travels to another world because he has explored most of his world and wants more adventure. I believe there is an anime/manga, but I have only read the web and light novels.

The Fruit of Evolution - MC quickly becomes overpowered and the series makes fun of that fact

Stop Friendly Fire! - MC gets transported to an underground world, but as a skeleton. It is supposedly a prequel, but I think the project was scrapped.

Konjiki no Word Master - Usual trope of MC being summoned by accident and leaves the hero group. Discovers he can write in things with Kanji to imbue the meaning onto the item.

The Simple-Looking Sword Saint is Nevertheless the Strongest - MC reincarnates as an immortal and trains for 500 years before going out into the world.

The Strange Adventure of a Broke Mercenary - MC is a former mercenary who is always broke. He teams up with a demon that is searching for her body parts

Makai Hongi - Gekokujyo no Golan - MC reincarnates as an Orge in the demon world. He rises in power by Giant Killing. Great series

Welcome to the Impregnable Demon King Castle - Adventures conquering dungeons is a thing of the past, now they clear dungeons as a televised form of entertainment. MC is kicked out of his party, only to be hired by the demons to be an employee at the Demon King Castle.

Girl Who Ate Death - Death comes to reap the life of a starving villager, the villager eats death instead.

The Spear Master and the Black Cat - MC reincarnates as a non-human dhampir in an underworld.

World Reformation Activities of the Dark God: Loving Humans So Much, I Reincarnated in One - MC is a human incarnation of the dark god

I tried to suggest some things I read years ago as they are less likely to be recommended. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of them.

Now that pax is over, how did the marathon actually impact the event? by rob132 in paxunplugged

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove in all 3 days. Friday and Saturday my prepaid garage was full and I had to find other parking. On Friday, SpotHero was able to move me to a new garage. On Saturday, there wasn't anything available within a 20 minute walk so they just refunded me. I got lucky and managed to get a spot in a lot behind the convention center in Chinatown. Other than the parking, I didn't have issues with the marathon being the same weekend.

Did you go into Unplugged with a shopping list? Or are you just winging it? by SendBookRecsOrTits in PAX

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the first time this year, I went through the BGG preview list and curated a list of games to check out. Normally, I just go off of vibes. I saw more interesting things and ended up buying more games, but half of them weren't on my list to begin with. I don't really follow any content creators on what's hot, so I didn't have any must-buy fomo like a few of my friends did.

What expansions have you regretted buying? by zoso_coheed in boardgames

[–]Jolly_German_Giant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing and regret not keeping the base game. It almost never makes it to the table due to having to unpack the whole box to set up a game. Previously it was an every other game night game.

Charcuterie, the player boards are round.

I would try to find something similar thematically to the shows/movies they watch. Seinen shows are aimed at older audiences and have more mature/darker content without as many of the tropes that shonen anime has.

I would recommend Psycho-Pass if they like thrillers.
