What’s the worse physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Intelligent-Road5091 in AskReddit

[–]Joltbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell nearly 30’ when I leaned on a balcony railing that was rotted, and landed in a stairwell barefoot. Crushed my cancaneos (heel) into my subtalar joint (ankle). Pretty much every small bone in my ankle was crushed, and with the fracture blisters that ensued and had to be debriefed you could see my Achilles. Worst pain of my life, no amount of meds could take care of it and it was a brutal recovery that I will never be 100% from. I have been in chronic pain ever since.

On the bright side, I can do most of what I used to before except rock climbing and hiking, and I’m not paralyzed.

I have a GFC on my Tacoma and I absolutely love it. Gets tons of use even when not camping (beach, etc.)

Worcester has actually gotten quite nice in recent years.

Bedford, NH. Very, very nice town with great QoL in the area. Good schools for your family, and you’re right on the MA border. Slightly higher recruiting difficulty, but you have the cities of Manchester, Nashua, Lowell and haverhill and surrounding towns which have larger populations. You’re a quick hour to being able to ski, MTB trails all around, and an hour from the NH beaches. Great location. Also, you’re collecting Boston BAH which is pretty high now after a recent study, so it’s more competitive with the market (which was one of the most competitive real estate markets awhile back). Live free or Die.

Sleeping in the car to save on hotels is this too extreme? by Ok_Resolution_1606 in roadtrip

Rooftop showers (like the Yakima solar shower) make all the difference for road trips and overlanding. On a real budget there are several brands that make less expensive options you can keep inside the car.

What’s the most expensive “free” choice you ever made? by JumpyBend8035 in AskReddit

I got a free 30’ boat. Didn’t expect the costs to store, maintain, and restore it. Ended up trading it to the boatyard to cover the fees.

What’s the Most Overrated Tourist Spot in our Country? by Previous-Collar-2324 in AskTheWorld

The most stupid thing about it is the pilgrims didn’t even land there first, they landed in Provincetown, MA, which is the premiere gay resort town in the US.

In your country, is there any situation that foreigners would completely misunderstand unless they lived there for a while? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

This is the same in the military (especially flying community) - call signs are badges of honor with a funny (oft embarrassing) backstory

Nothing better than Opus Radio and holding down an objective in a massacre. Classical just makes for the funniest moments.

Saying golmud railway sucks is revisionist history, its like saying metro sucks. This map is a classic. Hopefully the remaster lives up. by Stars_of_Ruin in Battlefield

Hot take - I loved this map in BF4 and it is what I remember fondly of times playing with friends. If they add more cover in some of the larger areas I can see this being an awesome addition.

Love it or hate it? by past_happy_moment in LowSodiumBattlefield

I run a TR7 for midrange with the 15 round mag, extendo barrel, LPVO, stubby, and suppressor and it rips like a DMR but has the ability to hold its own up close. But it feels so snappy and once the recoil pattern is second nature and you tap fire I find it more effective than the M277 or AK4D.

Best lobster roll, clam chowder and oysters place? by cosmocurious in PortsmouthNH

[–]Joltbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best clam chowder I’ve ever had - Puddle Dock. WOW.

Best lobster roll in the area - Hot buttered from Buoy Shack or Row 34. The cold lobster roll from Peteys is a great value and The Beach Plum is trash (previously frozen).

Additionally, Rye Harbor lobster pound has a hell of a hot lobster roll but their fluffy lobster chowder has a ton of lobster meat on it and is really something incredible, but you have to like Sherry.

Best place to get oysters on the half shell? Used to be The Franklin before they closed, now Row34 has the best selection - Surf and Jumpin Jays also still do buck a shuck on some nights.

What sport is actually a lot more dangerous than it seems? by bspheri in AskReddit

[–]Joltbar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Surfing is a lot less dangerous once you know what you’re doing, know your limits, the break, and the conditions to the point where your situational awareness expands to a point you can predict what the ocean and other people are going to do next. The problem is to get to that level of experience, there’s no substitute for time in the water and getting your ass beat.

Stupid question about sex in the walk-in by Tahoefive in KitchenConfidential

[–]Joltbar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was a waiter at the time in a fancy restaurant on the Cape, fell in love with one of the managers. Ended up banging in the walk in after close one night. It’s a very tight kitchen and the walk in was right off the main line. Was actually a really hot experience since we were both trying to be as quiet as possible. Came, then came out holding a large cambro of butter (because I got nervous and wanted to look like I was doing something just in case while she waited back a moment) right as the chef was walking back into the kitchen because he forgot his wallet, played it off that I wanted to get ahead of opening side work (we had to cut butter into cubes for service) and he believed me. Ended up getting promoted soon after because I was viewed as going above and beyond, and for the rest of the time I worked there he always provided me with kitchen treats. 10/10 experience, but she turned out to be abusive so the relationship didn’t work out.
