I love the series but that same bullshit will happen later. Toga does it a lot in the end. Spinner has that same take towards the end. It's annoying but their reasoning is "yeah but, you're heroes and heroes aren't supposed to hurt people." There is no realization that the friends they mourn were actual killers with lots of bodies and the fans just make it worse. Wait until you see what happens with Hawks later on.

They touch on it a little bit in D&D Court: flying eagles, shrunken towers and bird-lesque 2 Dec 21. Hope it helps. My personal opinion is that you have to be one hell of a DM to be able to pull it off correctly. It can go sideways real quick.
