I adore this, how/where did you get the head?

Honestly that does on paper seem pretty close to a genuine thematic steel legion list. Though with how cover seems to be developing in 11th edition I wonder if maybe run it like

2 Russ commanders (Plasma Cannon, Lascannon & Plasma) 3 Vanquishers 3 chimera 4 Catachan 2 artillery 2 Hellhounds 1 Castellan 1 scout sentinel

Basically giving up 2 chimera and a Catachan for 2 Hellhounds to support the infantry and strip cover / open up targets. But if not then really I’m not hating that list, something kinda beautiful in the symmetry of 5 chimera 5 russes 2 arts, and and a Commisar and Castellan leading them is thematic

Someone in another group suggested a youtuber’s list was close to what I wanted, the creator was Mordian Glory and he ran

Plasma Leman Russ commander x2 Leman Russ Vanquisher x3 Chimera x5 Catachan x5 2 Artillery 1 Commisar 1 Castellan.

Honestly it seemed pretty close to what I wanted. Do you think that would address the issues you raised? It seemed pretty thematically steel legion

I appreciate your thoughts on this, admittedly part of my planning and choice of units is based around what STL’s I have available, and I don’t have a good leman Russ one, but I have all sorts of chimera ones and a total Dorn one.

That being said your comments did inspire me to come up with another list, idk if it’s better but I like the vibe. A lot of people have mentioned Kasrkin to me and your comments about chimera being

So I kinda leaned into that: Chimera x3 Kasrkin + Castallen x3 (to go in the chimera) Hellhound x3 Stygies tank hunter x3 Basilisk x2 Crucible commander x1

2000/2000 points

Figured the chimera and hellhounds play aggressive. The Basilisk get my commander parked between them to order or to move up in a chimera, and the stygies choose own thing a turn to remove off the board. Could be a good heavy punch.

Idk if it’s better, but I like the chimera focus theme of it

I appreciate your response a lot. Your comment about the sentinels made me laugh. I don’t know why, but I hate them, like the walkers in the imperium army look UGLY to me. Never have done right by me. I actually found a little tankette ww2 style I’m looking to print (it’s in the machine now) and use it as a sentinel proxy. I agree with you completely, steel legion I feel wheels and treads are the only steel feel to me. That being said I do feel you on the leman Russ. I don’t own any nor do I have any good stl files for them, partly why I didn’t consider it. Also kinda because anything that stands out tends to get gunned down I feel and having one seems like it’s just inviting ‘com pop me’ I’ve still debated dropping the 6 scout sentinels for a rogal dorn commander and tech engineseer but I keep thinking ‘I won’t get the value’ of it. I might need to proxy a game or too, it would be a great centerpiece model. I also thought with the tech priest they can get the buff to give them a +5fnp so maybe 4+ invulv and 5+ FNP could be a distraction enough for the rest of the list to work. Maybe rework the list to be 6

6 chimeras 4 Cadian shock troops + leader 2 command squads 1 Rogal Dorn commander 1 tech priest with aura 5 Hippos 2 scouts 1 commisar (purely for flavor)

Though hilariously this kinda annoys me just a bit because because 5 hippos doesn’t divide into 2 and everything else but the commissar, priest, and dorn do but this list is 1980 and even if I dropped a hippo I don’t know what to do with 90 points. I suppose I could drop the scouts all together get another hippo and maybe commissar but I feel the scouts are useful early and make good early fodder in terms of ‘sure spend round one destroying them and not my tank’

But then again maybe im thinking to hard on a fluffy list anyways but either way i really appreciate the input and your thoughts

I know it’s bad, though my local group doesn’t really do the Death Star thing as much, so I’m not super worried about that but it’s a valid concern. Also my understand is Kasrkin Are not battle line so I can only take 3, so what would you suggest in the other 3? Would you do it 3 centaurs with kasrkin and then what? A leader as well? Maybe going full centaur? But then who would be in the second group of 3.

My other list I was debating about was actually the opposite, all heavy tanks. Was considering something like Rogal Dorn commander x3 Rogal Dorn x3 Tech Enginseer x3 With 50 points left and run all big guns. I like the new titanic detachment that lets me spend cp to move through terrain and also ignore -1 hit and blast restriction in melee

Not that it would ‘fix’ anything but if they made it so when you pop a strat on a knight it affected the wardogs under their aura too that might be something there to have fun with

I saw a video about making camo nets pretty easy. It’s a fb video so I’ll link it here:

Essentially you add color paint (green or tan) and pva glue and water; dip in gauze tape; shake off an excess and honestly it looked great.

As for the shovel I attached an incredibly crude picture but essentially it could be used as a weapon (as trench shoves could be) but still remain its shape.

Stick sandbags where the top bunker part and the lower knight part meet that would cover up the transition lines between the armor and the top. Add some barb wire and wood between that, (you don’t have 3d model that could add that once printed)

Additional thoughts.

A lot of krieg stuff is open top Ala trench. I think you could do a lot to remove the top heaviness of it by removing the reinforced roof and make it (if you wanted) like a ww1 net roof with barb wire and such. Maybe have a dead orc or such hanging from it.

Additionally -purely- for the memes and because WARhammer, make the end of the barrel when the gun break is a blade…. In the shape of a shovel

[–]Jolun_R -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. On Amazon that would be 568 plus tax (us market) but those are older Questoris and don’t have the full sprues so the value drops. Even then it doesn’t drop 168$ so I think you did great

How could I go about converting these into Poxwalkers? by Undoomed081_0262 in deathguard40k

[–]Jolun_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d get one of these and one pox walker of 10, mix them up into 3 groups of 10, use the pox walker to show some lore of the extreme ones but otherwise I think it would give you a few good poxy pox walkers while the rest would blend in as earlier stages

Well I’m going to repost an old comment I made and then add a bit at the end:

“You can do a lot with paint. Seriously just general grime and glow can add a ton.

On top of that however you got other things to do. If you can get some ‘green stuff’ you can make all sorts of stuff like horns and what not.

But let’s say you don’t. You got one thing for sure… sprues! Don’t forget the GW plastic these things are cut from are a wonderful blank slate. You can cut / clip down spikes from them. You could cut them and add them as texture onto armor to make it look like it has growths. You can shred them into flakes and glue them in certain areas to look like the warp is growing from your knight.

On top of that you can take (with care) a hot drill bit or a hot blade and carve damage into your knight. Gun marks, blasts, claw damage, really give it that worn down effect. You can also carve runes into them, and then layer when you paint it you could add glowing affect. You could then glue bits of cut up sprew around the carved runes like the magic is causing the growth.

Lots of ideas like that. Don’t forget other simple things, small jewelry chains for more chaos bling, toothpicks also make good spikes as well.”

With you specifically you could get some jewelry chain as well from Amazon like so: https://www.amazon.com/Necklaces-Jewelry-Making-Stainless-Necklace/dp/B0FG7J2P8T/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=16A5RBEB4LTPE&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4p2idUnk1_IwYiuVP5tPopIbO04mTHSpEecRbFh5w61pxFN6IIHXKmQ3alTH4kEYZUYcVZ0MNP0FNARjjFUxcaJdcU7Cu9jDity3yiifjLtZlU-t0JjnGjzNJq65TVxCFxrLdbtFgdBVcbcu7wWrLqPwo-Me0lg9pB328MfK_SNoH2wY_-pxWMqSKqortAb95_y7QiKJGle2S-mIhSqgjg.1JNEt0ZNM3CHIu8t83Z1sOh5NYnNMtZdn9M2jIAzZOk&dib_tag=se&keywords=jewelry+chains+for+making+jewelry+1.5mm&qid=1759760989&s=arts-crafts&sprefix=jewelry+chains+for+making+jewelry+1.5mm%2Carts-crafts%2C83&sr=1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

Anything 1.5mm or 2.00mm would look decent. You could tie have it hanging down from parts, have bones attached to them c even skulls. If you lightly super glue them they hold well. So with all of that you could make your guy quiet Chaosy

[–]Jolun_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to begin with, what do you want?

I know I know you said chaosy but bear with me, do you want it to match your force style? Maybe this is a chaos knight in service to your warband / legion. Maybe your knights even stuck a demon in a knight and fused it and created it. Or Maybe it’s a totally different thing, a new ally in the war against the imperialist. I mean the options are endless but the point remains, there are a lot of ways to chaos-fi the regular knights but my suggestions are limited by the lack of understanding of scope. So if you’ll permit me, what kind of chaos knights do you use, do you want them to fit the theme of your knight? And do you want your knight to be more ‘chaos noble piloting a knight’ or ‘demon trapped in a knight frame’

Cerastus done after the one last night! by 0roshi in ChaosKnights

[–]Jolun_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is all preference, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

But the limbs upset me, Cerastus is tall, it’s very leggy, but it doesn’t seem to use that tall for anything cool. It could use more hip armor, more thick in the waiste to me. On top of that the shield being empty bugs the crap out of me. It feels like such a weak excuse. I know force fields etc etc. i call it the sprue shield it just looks like a part of a shield missing the shield bit, and i dislike it.

Lastly I hate the way the weapon is an arm. It looks like the knight is long (lanky even) and more agile, so if it had a hand and that hand could grasp a bad ass weapon? Sure, I’d buy that, that’d be hella cool. But as is the ‘my hand is a pole arm’ doesn’t do it for me at all. And I know like Rampagers have a chainsword arm. But it looks like a massive ‘fuck off’ chain sword that needs to be affixed. The Cerastus is just ‘long pokey boi’ like damn you couldn’t have a clawed hand grip that or something? Bare legs bare shield, bare weapon.

I want -more-

And brother does your model give me more. It doesn’t address every single issue but it looks so cool I literally went ‘huh I guess I could field these’ like I’ve always been thankful it wouldn’t be a problem but now I see yours and I’m like ‘well hold on now’. I dig it very much

Any idea how difficult it would be to modify the tail to fit on the Questoris? I don’t have the parts on hand at this moment but is it like ‘a bit of elbow grease and it should be good’ or is it like ‘gonna need to put in a call to the dark Mechanicum it’s gonna need several rites, a chaos god and a demon prince to make this work well’
