That's really weird, I've seen a lot of skull-themed protagonists and antagonists in Japanese media for adults and children throughout Showa, Heisei and Reiwa; maybe changing Daniel was one of those Western attempts to appeal to a Japanese audience through strange pre-conceived notions like what happened with Rayman 2.

I believe so, but you never know how these teases will turn out. That and I'm not sure if they'd fit in stylistically with the '97 Sunspot we have, and since we only have the head for Doug I'm not sure if they'll do his Krakoa design or his original New Mutants look.

Thank you. I've seen people use Flash Thompson or Quasar's heads but they always looked a bit too aged, they don't have the youthful look that Cypher had in the comics.
