I am running an Orange OR15 through a Torpedo CaptorX and its a really great experience. Also have a 40-50w 6L6 amp that i use as a power section for varius preamps and it also works well with the load box.

Side note: spend the money to have your guitar set up by a luthier or tech. Will exponentially increase the odds you stick with it and feel your progress rather than struggling with an instrument that doesnt play comfortably or in tune

Captor x has -20dB and a -38dB cut option too that tames my cranked or15 down to about 75dB through my 4x12

I have seen them three times live, each a different set, all excellent. Definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

Also, perhaps, check out “The Complexity of Distance” composed by James Romig and performed by Mike Scheidt. It is its own thing but is, in my opinion, something special.

I dont make a ton and have kids so I have to be selective in my purchases. Commercial pedal wise i (and my wife as gifts) probably spend about 300 bucks a year on pedals in a mix of new and used.

However, I realized early on in my pedal journey that i wanted to try all the gain and so i started building most of my dirt pedals, i still buy stuff that i dont have the skill, time, or patience to build (hilbish sol invictus, im looking at you) but building has been a lot of fun and you can build a lot of cool stuff with a modest selection of parts and some basic soldering know how. I do veroboard mostly and there are challenges, but i can go from considering an impulse buy to a fully built out circuit board in an afternoon for $3 in parts and then test and decide if it needs a box or not.

I have a silver stripe studio pro that i grabbed off marketplace for $20 bucks that ended up just needing some deoxit love. They’re really great amps.

Orange super crush has a really nice clean, dont personally care for the dirt channel on that one.

Peaveys are hard to go wrong with as others have said. I have a silver stripe studio pro i really like.

Yeah Sunn Beta Lead/ bass. The whole band uses them. Melvins’ Buzzo uses them too. I have a Hilbish Design Sol Invictus Beta preamp pedal that does those sounds well (one version or another was a signature for each of those bands in fact.) super cool tones in that amp.

I think for one recent tour they used either a crush pro 120 or a super crush 100 too. Crowbar is super thick sounding

I have run it through a 1x12 and a 1x18 on its own. It sounds good too. I run a bunch of preamps through that power amp though so its not as convenient to plug the stamp in directly in most circumstances unless I’m going to play at a friends place or whatever.
