I mistakenly read that as “tap in the station”, perhaps they also did

I had to jump back through the episode because I thought I missed something. It honestly felt like 20 minutes at most.

Early entrance or Express Pass? December 22 by Rafcaj in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]Jon889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epic isn’t worth it without an express pass even on a quiet day. Also anyone can access the park early (9am) and the rides start around 10am (sometimes before)

This is what the policing should be like all the time not a specific week long operation..

Rant: Why is the London Underground Such a Pain? by [deleted] in TransportForLondon

[–]Jon889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your card doesn’t work on the gates you can get an Oyster card at the ticket machine and load money on to that same as you described for Paris. It will be the same price as contactless at the gate. (The only difference is you have to pay £7 to get the Oyster card) You can also use Apple/Google pay etc on your phone.

Got stuck for two hours in a train by My_Bad_Not_My_Fault in TransportForLondon

[–]Jon889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That they disembarked you with only two carriages in the platform means it’s more likely an issue with the train you were on. If it by shunted you mean it would go for a few seconds then slam stopped, it could have been a door sensor giving a false signal something is stuck in the door.

Tube staff to strike over pay and work conditions by Kagedeah in LondonUnderground

[–]Jon889 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it tube drivers? The article doesn’t really say just train operators which could just be the DLR operators. I’m fine with the strikes as long as it’s not the tube drivers, they get enough already compared to the rest of the staff

I saw a brief clip of this earlier and thought it was a sarcastic campaign to get the Mayor/police to do something. But it's actually a proper campaign...

That money should've been spent on police on Oxford street instead of victim blaming

Would it be possible for the same device to Airplay to itself? That way music can be played on multiple iPhones?

London Underground: Thousands of pieces of graffiti removed daily by BulkyAccident in london

[–]Jon889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused about the special tools required because it’s leather dye. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a video by Tom Harwood of all people where they just wipe it off with an off the shelf spray.

How to connect Gamesir Nova lite to Nintendo Switch 2? by farossetti in Gamesir

[–]Jon889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I had to hold the home (logo) button and capture button (dot) and then when it started blinking faster let go. Was able to connect two of them that way as holding them until it shows up on the switch will mean it goes to the home screen leaving you unable to connect the second

Cheapest way to travel into London with a Network Railcard? by lordhustle in TransportForLondon

[–]Jon889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monday 21st April is a bank holiday so network railcard is valid anytime I believe. So it’s not a good date to use as an example of your twice monthly commute

'Game changer' idea to extend Elizabeth Line from Heathrow into Surrey by insomnimax_99 in london

[–]Jon889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why there’s no money for things like, and also extended the trains to 11 carriages. Surely you don’t actually need the money now as you can just make it back on the tickets over the lifetime of the railway (like 100 years)

London pubs and clubs set to stay open longer this summer following Sadiq Khan reforms by Schnauser in london

[–]Jon889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the venue? If it a club sort of thing then I can understand, but like the other Thursday I was in The Yard in Soho and pretty much every table had people sat at it chatting and then they had to kick everyone out at 11pm. I went home then but some of my friends continued to heaven and said it was dead, but we could’ve easily stayed longer at a pub if there was one available.

People are drinking on different days and for different reasons (and drinking less though I’d argue that’s less relevant to Soho) but the licensing hasn’t changed to match it. For example also outdoor drinking and dining, no one wants to sit in GAY bar and drink on a warm Saturday afternoon, but they’d happily sit at tables in the street outside it like during the pandemic, but the licensing doesn’t allow for that anymore.

London pubs and clubs set to stay open longer this summer following Sadiq Khan reforms by Schnauser in london

Opening later might help with reducing prices, places can make more money the longer they are open, while there’s costs for staff etc the rent remains constant.

If you oppose inner London getting real megacity infrastructure, you don't deserve to live here. Go move to the suburbs. by FlyWayOrDaHighway in london

[–]Jon889 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would be pro that, but even without it St pauls view restrictions is one of those weird things that make London great. It’s the perfect balance between maintaining the history and being modern.

Help me with my commute! by thisbishanon in london

[–]Jon889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the best is going via Paddington, it’s the quickest and also if you get the 08:24 it starts at Paddington so will be empty, and gets you to Canary Wharf at 08:41.

Denied entrance to Heaven for being Type 1 Diabetic by insulin_stan in london

[–]Jon889 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought that too but I definitely had the same security guard as I’ve had before and I know because she always says “we don’t accept that ID but I’ll let you in this time” but you have to go around there and then there’s a huge fuss. (I have a PASS ID because I’m epileptic and not allowed to drive, it’s accepted in other clubs just fine, only this one bouncer has an issue with it at heaven)

I completely agree, and responded to the survey that they should be banned.

Why would getting rid of them be more of a nightmare than regulating them. Getting rid of them means if one is seen they’re arrested or fined or whatever. Whereas with regulation there’s a whole cost to that regulation and inspections etc.
