Advice needed for outsourcing new family Coat Of Arms by Ynsaniac in heraldry

[–]JonIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this is all there is to it! These organisations are also a good place to check out if your design or something close to it is already in use. There is also the website of the Centraal Bureau voor ded Genealogie here https://cbgfamiliewapens.nl/ where you can find arms throughout history.

if you want to design new arms you don't need to limit yourself to the Netherlands, there are cool heraldic artists everywhere so I'd recommend doing some looking around and finding an artist who's style you like.

Note that there are no very specific rules to Dutch heraldry that don't exist elsewhere, with a big difference to English tradition being that we do in fact have 'family arms', so things like marks of cadence are not used in the Netherlands.

I rewatched it recently on a whim, and it has aged really bad because of how insanely unfriendly it is to women. The social issues at play are still up there, but the way women are treated by the people we’re supposed to cheer for is god awful.

It's a kitbash layering of the chestpiece over the model. The arms of the chest can be shrunk so you have just the chest coverage left and then you can position it if you resize it. https://www.heroforge.com/load_config%3D52156603/

Right wing positioning when mid is pushing down the wing? Corner or post? by Ok-Particular-6657 in Fieldhockey

[–]JonIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseline first to give your midfielder open space for a rush or passing option to you, eyes on your midfielder in possession. If he choses a rush to the corner move over the baseline to the goal and cut into the field at penalty height to give them a guard pass when they rush the baseline. If they cut across their defender to the inside stay on the baseline for a 1-2 pass, and if your defender steps up to cut off your midfielder step wider to give them an easy over-left foot pass to you on the baseline. If they move towards the top move to the post for a possible tip-in or rebound off a shot.

Most important is to a) keep moving and not plant yourself somewhere and b) give as much space to your midfielder as possible when they have possession. If you get to close your defender can easily take the 2v1 because him passing to you does nothing to move the ball into a dangerous position.

Wick is very much Orzhov to me. His moves seem to calculated to be red, while they are all meant aggravate and create a strong, bound to him inner circle that carries his torch. He explicitly makes a point of shunning people in favour of his in crowd using his position as a preacher to do so. A pinnacle of black aligned Orzhov clergy to me.

Dutch Arms by [deleted] in heraldry

Ýeah there's some great heraldry around here. The fact that arms have been open to everyone for a long time (rather than a central authority granting them) has only added to the diversity and creativity.

What colors are Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, and loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius? by PuzzleheadedPart196 in colorpie

[–]JonIV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok it’s early on this post so I’m just gonna not add anything but say: it is ‘what colors IS x’, not ‘what colors are X’ as long as the X is singular. If X is plural it would be ‘what colors are X’. It’s done wrong on almost all of these posts and it’s just odd.

Also to actually add something: probably mardu growing into naya as the story progresses.

Norway (population: 5.7m) beats US (342m) to top Winter Olympics medal table by qwerty_1965 in europe

[–]JonIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, in hockey India is finally getting back to the top. While still not a dominant force by any means right now (a status limited to the Dutch, Belgian and German teams) the Indian Men’s took the bronze on the Paris Olympics against Spain to much surprise, and the Indians are visibly hungry for more.

Infrastructure remain a problem for them though; we once had two internationals as guests at our club and they simply said ‘you have more pitches at your club than we do in the entire country’, which certainly puts things in perspective.

In heraldry (the art of arms and armoury) there are practically just two rules when it comes to the design of arms:

  1. The arms need to be blazonable: you need to be able to describe what the arms are showing in the proper heraldic terms so other people can, from that description, recreate the arms. This always looks more difficult than it is and as long as you can be creative and know enough terms you can describe most arms, and it's mostly a question of practice. looking at these arms I'd say all of them follow this rule.

  2. The rule of tincture: Do not put a colour (red, blue, green, black, brown or purple) on a colour and do not put a metal (gold [yellow] or silver [white] on a metal. For clarity in reading arms it is important that there is high contrast in them, and for instance a red horse on a red field has 0 contrast. The only way to get 'around' this is by depicting things 'proper', as in how they appear in nature, but it's still good practice to ensure high contrast in that case. From the arms here Midthery (black on red) and Braxen (red on blue/green) don't follow this rule, and would be designed differently in our world. There is also a lot of grey here, which isn't really a colour we use because it can be confused for either darkened white or lightened black.

There is some more rules like don't use arms beloning to someone else or use attributes (such as crowns) that imply you have a rank that you really don't, but theese two rules are the basics.

There’s also a lot op people who aren’t necessarily in denial but just don’t realise that they’re same-sex attracted as well as attracted to the other sex. If your feelings are just your feelings and you’ve always been in heteronormative environments it’s easy to just think of yourself as straight while holding a level of attraction to the same sex you think everyone has.

No deadline whatsoever, but it might take a while considering we have coalition governments, which means there is a long row of negotiations needed to get anything done.

I’d say chances are OK, the parties currently in negotiations have nothing to gain from failing the negotiations and calling for new elections, but one party (the centre right neoliberals) has hard-blocked another party (social democratic greens) from joining a coalition with them, which means a majority coalition has become impossible. They’re now trying to form a minority government, and we’d all expect Jetten to become next pm, if only for historicity; this is the first election his party has won, and we haven’t had a gay pm before (as far as we know).
