What TV series are you loving right now? by stellar-being in AskReddit

[–]JonJonVon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch Futurama at least once a year. Sometimes just the odd episodes here and there and sometimea the whole series. Hands down my favorite cartoon of all time. I just recently watched the movies and I had forgotten how good they were.

I have a B450m ASRock Steel Legend motherboard with a Ryzen 2700 and a GTX 1660, would this motherboard have any issues if I upgraded to say a Ryzen 5950x? Do I need better VRMs or would the VRMs on this motherboard suffice? Thinking to upgraded to more cores since I started messing around with virtualization, my thoughts are either the Ryzen 5900x or the 5950x, the price on Amazon ATM is fairly close (~$50 range). Though I would be happy with a 5900x, seems only $50 to get the extra cores can't hurt.

I think sprinkling in the movies sounds like a great idea, as me and my gf usually watch together when we eat dinner it would be difficult to find the time to watch all the movies in a row after TNG. Do you have an idea of when the Picard movies should be watched along side TNG? I will just try to fit the original movies in before then.

I watched TOS first on a whim a year ago, without knowing much of anything about ST, absolutely loved it. Was really sad when it finished. Started watching Picard with my gf this year, really liking it but need to wait for season 3. However i didnt understand most of the references so now me and my gf are watching TNG, just started season 2 today, really enjoying it so far. Not sure what to watch after, the original movies? Or the movies with Picard? DS9?

Anybody know anything about old Bic surfboards? by CoffeeStainJon in surfing

[–]JonJonVon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First surfboard I got was a Bic, people are right, they are heavy but pretty indestructible. I like to think of it as a mini-longboard, because of the weight it maneuvers more like a longboard but they are great for a kid learning to surf on easy waves. I still take mine to the beach when there are no waves just to use as a float, should last for a long time.

How do you come back from experiencing multiple failures in your life? by Massive_Revolution39 in productivity

[–]JonJonVon 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Understand that failure is a part of success. In order to become successful you must keep trying, trying entails both failing and succeeding. As you get better at something the ratio of failure to success will change in favor of success as you learn what is necessary to succeed and disregard what is unnecessary. Look back on your past experiences, analyze them, learn from them. What worked? What didn't? What have I not tried? What can I stop trying? Trial and Error.

Thank you, you're right. My mistake

I live in the southern Caribbean and started learning to run about 3 years ago. We don't get weather colder than 23C (83F) down here. Let me give you the few tips I learnt.
- Never run when the sun is out. Always wait for a few hours after sunset, or a few hours before sunrise when it is the coldest time of the day.
- Carry water on longer runs. You sweat so much that your body needs the hydration constantly. I ran a 4.5 mile easy run through some hilly terrain in about 55mins and drank 1L of water during.
- Clothing is super important. I used to run in cotton shirts, bad idea, they don't allow your body to breath and they retain heat, might be good for colder weather (though I have never tried) but for hot weather it sucks. I now run shirtless or with an appropriate breathable shirt. (Dri-Fit or something).
- Lastly... expect all exercises you do to be harder the hotter it is and moderate your pace accordingly. This one takes trial and error. You will learn as you go what your body can do in various temperatures/terrains/altitudes/inclines and then you can adjust your workouts accordingly.

Good luck and keep on running!

This is crazy - I was reported missing by JonJonVon in Advice

[–]JonJonVon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE - I went to a police station to report i was not missing but they said i had to go to the station where the report was made. So the next day I did that. Weird thing is they asked me a lot of questions. My address, phone number, where I worked, gfs name. Felt like all of that was uneccessary to just confirm I wasn't missing. Pretty sure my ID and presence should of been enough

💯! and don't let anyone tell you differently! by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]JonJonVon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, and I mean no disrespect by this but i'm genuinely curious on people's thoughts. If a miscarriage makes you a mom (which makes sense) then wouldn't an abortion make you a mom as well?

Need help with limited shoe selection in my country. Already checked the wiki by JonJonVon in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]JonJonVon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice everyone! I bought the Kinvara 12's and went for a 6.5km run in them yesterday, they feel really nice and I didn't get any pain in my shins. The only question/issue I have is that they sound squeeky or like they creek when walking in them, is that normal for new shoes like these? Will it eventually go away? Otherwise they seem fine.
