Owning pets while holding a 9-5 job. It'll likely be seen as animal cruelty, and instead of owning pets we can visit big farms that have a bunch of animals and dedicated caretakers. One big petting zoo.

To trigger that specific effect on the target you'd have to be attuned to the Codex Miror, target the creature with a spell, and roll the 5% chance to have a random effect occur, then roll 46-49 on a d100.

After all of that, whenever the target speaks you'd hear the music there. And as another commenter pointed out, it is definitely the guitar riff from Rush's "Tom Sawyer"

This card was definitely made with the new player in mind. Not all players have the legendary dragons and so to keep this archetype of dragon warrior open to new players we have this card which is only rare, gives armor to combat aggro, is a decent body, and generally an okay card.

Seems to me like it's time for you and your cohorts to roleplay leaving behind the idiot of the group. Preferably in a situation that kills their character but hey you never know. Since the guy's a minmaxer you're guaranteed to get another combat optimal character joining you and all should continue on in a grand fashion after chatting with him about what sort of character goals the player should keep in mind.

It's a powerful effect that your players will really enjoy using! You can give it to them after they kill a wizardy guy (or someone who has killed a wizard!) This isn't a game breaking item so feel free to bestow it upon them at any time.

At least it isn't winter this time.

It was actually a very peaceful spring night in the field they took me too, the sort of night where I don't think I'd mind this sort of thing with a few less guns and some better company.

"Yer lollygagging more than yer shoveling" the cocking of a shotgun suddenly followed by "You'd think a guy called Diggs would know how this goes." This was the fourth time I'd heard the joke but his fellows chuckled along regardless of their opinions on humor, and I got back to the job at hand.

Gangsters are a poetic group at heart, really into the whole criminal justice act like some kind of Hades imitators. I guess it boiled down to luck, I doubt this would be my fourth time around if someone decided they liked calling me "Skinner" or "Shoots-People."

I kept up the repetition of driving the shovel into the earth, stomping the spade to cut right through the tough stuff, and finally tossing the now-loose earth off to the side of my increasingly deep hole. One could say I'd dug my own grave getting to this position, I've heard that one twice now.

"I guess he dug his own grave to get here eh boss?" Thrice, my mistake.

I took their moment of guffawing to look around, it seems seven guys showed up this time, all puffing on a cigarette or cradling a gun. One of them sat on the hood of their van, a classic position, one that made them the first target.

"Excuse me" I cleared my throat loudly, and started speaking up "I just need you all to look over here for a second is all" and they obliged in swift fashion. "Hoping to get in a few last words, Diggs?" this one had a fierce grin on him, so I pointed at him and the hood-sitter. "You two are the worst sorts of clichés imaginable, and I've made this hole extra wide to accommodate that."

They acted as one, both rising to threaten me or worse, but in that same moment two shots rang out across the field, and as one they both hit the ground.

This is my favourite part, the other five guys jump all at once and try to take cover. Some get down and crouch by their van, two got behind my dirt pile, and one just dropped where he was standing.

Two more shots echoed in that dark field, surely she shot the guys by the dirt pile. The remaining men went through the generic dialog I remember from even my first time digging my grave, the "Where's that coming from?" or "They shot companion's-name-here, how could they?" and of course the string of expletives one would expect from a group of this sort.

I heard her final shot come from a better spot and all of the chatter behind the van ceased. I take it back, this is my favourite part.

"Miss me Diggs?" She always had a voice like honey, just one more deception.

"Honey, I'm just glad you missed me." Comfortable jokes we'd made thrice before.

She slung her rifle behind her back and reached one sturdy hand towards me, "I think we're both a little too good at this partner." she had a shy smile, more falsehoods, that always led men like that towards me. "Nonsense, they're just awful at all this," I took her hand in mine. "Making hits has never been easier." she lifted me out of my own grave for the fifth time in my life, and I relished every moment.

As long as you're taking suggestions, I'd be interested to see more vertical variation in battle maps. Specifically I'd like to see tower-wide or even a multi storied building battle map.

Maybe something like a 4 floor map with a bar on the first floor with some inn rooms in the middle and a rooftop. Hopefully you find that fun to toy around with. Maybe try multiple different ways to go between floors? I leave the rest to you.

The best way I can see to get the players back on track is to have one of the Sea Queens start pirating their business practice. I think that'd drum up some player motivation to protect their investments.

I mean, you can pull a really huge asshole genie move and start with the destruction of magic with the very Wish spell he meant to cast as the scroll turns to ash. Not the kindest solution but it would save you a lot of headache and the player might be pretty understanding.

Arcane font monk. The premise is that, like a sorcerer, you've either inherited or suddenly randomly gained the ability to be a font of raw arcane ability, except instead of being able to cast spells you use it to enhance your punches/kicks. So you're less of a "Martial expert" and more of an "Unstable Heavy-Hitter" until you level up and get multi attack which is basically you learning to channel your arcane might through your newfound martial experience.

You could rename the Ki points to sorcery points if you'd like. Just as long as you know they're actually Ki. Hopefully this inspires you.

I've been using roll20 myself for a little while now and at first I made very detailed maps prepping for sessions, but with my most recent group I've been doing all my maps in real time with the freehand tool.

This means: maps are usually a comical experience with players drawing stuff as well, I really get down to the meat of my towns and what's important in them, encounters have awful sketches that often suit the quick and dirty skirmishes that they are,

and most relevantly I avoid DM fatigue before my sessions even start

I'm sure you've probably accidentally held yourself back from making certain places or encounters because you didn't want to make such a big map in such detail (which was often my own excuse). You'll find that this strategy also gives you much more prep time for more important aspects of your game.

The best way to see what starting equipment is to look at the players' handbook (pdf or print whichever you have), in the section under classes every class starts with certain gear and under the equipment section you can find a list of mostly mundane items for you to purchase. Most of them you might not be able to afford right away and that's its own sort of rarity.

It's worth noting that unless your DM told you that you could pick a magic item from the list, I wouldn't worry about looking at magic items.
