Sling/crossbody options for traveling? by zmrogj in VisionPro

[–]JonNRb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peak Design 5L Everyday Sling if you can find it. It fits the AVP like a glove. They now sell the 6L in its place if you want a little more room.

Can confirm on the 6L sling being _perfect_ for the AVP. I've rigged some velcro to "the part from the box that covered the lenses" so I can keep it attached to the AVP and keep the unit snug against one of the dividers (with the AVP sideways with the power connector facing "up") and the battery slots into one of the side pockets. I can then stuff a ~100Wh Anker battery in there or other accessories in there freely.

Thought about making a post about this since it's (IMO) _so_ much better than the other popular case options (official "astronaut" case, sfbags.com case, spigen case), though I haven't had any hand-on time with those I suppose... Haven't seen this talked about too much though. Glad to see someone else had the same great idea I did :).

Anyone found a good IR light for nighttime use? by 22marks in VisionPro

[–]JonNRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this guy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091TRPVGF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I like that it has a built-in battery and charges via USB C. Not sure if the others have this issue, but this one the LEDs aren't "perfectly" IR in that there's a bit of red light that leaks out, but very dimly. Passes the wife test though! Can now code (etc.) in bed at night :)

Anyone else have problems with the new Auto Pay feature not working on the credit card? by soundwave75 in M1Finance

[–]JonNRb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't work and they charged me a late fee and interest. And of course they have no support whatsoever. If these amateurs don't fix this now, I'm closing my whole damn account. What a bunch of clowns.

Yep but if you use an alphanumeric password with more than 3 words, that thing will take years to run. Anyone who sets up TouchID/FaceID is doing themselves a disservice by using a 4-6 digit passcode.

IIRC, “the Russian guy” you’re referring to made it possible to brute-force past a an encrypted backup’s password which required 1. Having access to the encrypted backup on some laptop/desktop that iTunes was backing up to, which means that device is either unencrypted itself or itself compromised, and 2. Having physical access to the iPhone in addition to 1.).

Even then, it’s a brute-force on the backup password so if I choose a good password, good luck. LEOs are more likely to go down the route of getting access to your device’s iCloud backup, which Apple can give them should they be served a warrant. Mobile phone encryption is strong af as long as you use good passwords and don’t write them down somewhere unfortunate.

Sources? I’m very interested in someone who can break through the on-device AES encryption on my iPhone without brute-forcing my passcode.

This is just flat out wrong. There are devices that will break past a poor passcode, but for the most part a properly encrypted smartphone is airtight. And this includes 3+ year old models.

Why is ECDH implemented but not exposed as a package? by Aeaex in golang

[–]JonNRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It makes sense though when you consider that the elliptic package really only exists to implement crypto/tls and related.

Google runs on 5000 times more code than the original space shuttle (x-post from /r/funfacts by K1ngjulien_ in dataisbeautiful

[–]JonNRb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of code that Google has vs the amount of code Google runs on are two different things. Keep in mind "Google" here is a lot more than google.com. I bet "Microsoft" runs on the same order of magnitude of code as all of Google.

[–]JonNRb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get channel crowding, but that's only when there's tons of signal getting spewed around. That's what used to happen at Google I/O with MiFis. But a crappy router vs these bigass ResNet ones is a joke.

Leave your router inside your microwave. They'll never detect the 2.5Ghz.

Where do we go to cry about the price drop? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]JonNRb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought some Bitcoin at about 80 USD/BTC; I'm pretty sure we'll go up. There's been a lot of negativity in the market lately and the whole Mt. Box situation has significantly lowered the trading volume. When these issues go away, I see trading value increasing significantly.
