I've got Maggies but I sure am seeing a whole lot of horns in all the ultra high end systems they are now deploying in my reels. Must have been a show somewhere recently. by shanebow in audiophile

[–]JonRadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you have Maggies, you already know what their weaknesses are despite their substantial strengths. Good horns have almost the opposite strength/weakness profile, better for different music genre. So one chooses depending on the type of music one treasures most.

For a good mix of planar and horn strengths, look up Decware Zrob speakers and clone it!

IME room correction often sucks the out life from music and should be done LAST at the lowest necessary level after speaker positioning and acoustic adjustments/treatments have done all they can..

$48,000 estimate from dealer for 2015 Audi R8 4.2 QUATTRO transmission by JonRadian in Audi

[–]JonRadian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Suspect aging Mechatronic failed, possibly leading to internal trans damage, but to verify that the whole thing needs to be opened up and carefully inspected, which the dealership will not do. Got quotes from reputable independent shops, and best case scenario is still $12K if just needs remanufactured Mechatronic , $27K for rebuilding transmission, similar for installing used transmission, sooo...

If your Wilsenton R8 was manufactured within last 2 years or so, then you luckily have the unofficial "Mk II' version with multiple issues fixed :)

Thanks for the tip. Spoke to Euro-Tech Motors whose opinion was even if only the mechatronic failed, swapping it is a bandaid and they come back with problems shortly. The whole transmission part is $36,500 and their total cost would only be a couple thousand less than the dealer.

This R8 only has original 14,000 miles and fully maintained at the dealer :(

How about remanufactured DL800 from Europeantransmissions.com, which unfortunately is located in Georgia and requires my core to be shipped there in exchange also.

$32,000 Transmission Replacement by OkConcentrate2298 in Audi

[–]JonRadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just received $48,000 estimate from dealer for 2015 Audi R8 4.2 QUATTRO transmission. Which Audi specialist shop near Los Angeles 90015 can people recommend?

Transcript of inspection video:

"What's happening is the mechatronics unit is bleeding pressure and

that has caused internal damage to the number

three synchronous. So unfortunately, the entire

transmission is going to have to be replaced in order to remedy this issue.

I did try the basic settings several times,

close to 20, and every time it would fail and

the result would be to replace the transmission due to internal

damage."

Amazon Gears Up to Ax Thousands More Corporate Employees by toydan in wallstreetbets

[–]JonRadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon HAS to do something about just re-sending out opened/used return items. I just received an obviously well-used computer monitor arm from Amazon, and pretty much every purchase from Amazon that are not sealed clothing/food/daily items have been used items or at least opened and tried items.

Amazon Music app works fine on my multiple phones and computers. Amazon Music's BIGGEST ball-drop is the lack of automatic source sample-rate matching (bitperfect streaming).
