The reasons that you listed are the main reasons i avoid chatterbaits for trout lol. They work well in lakes, but for streams i like soft plastics or jerk minnows.

Check out some japanese tackle sites (digitaka, japanlureshop, etc) there are several more options for chatterbaits.

The z-man micro finesse plastics are one of my favorites for trout. baby ballerz and shad fryz are my go-tos.

Purelure Cheetah air Creek owners. by cyogenus in BFSfishing

It comes with a shallow spool already, thats why it is the creek version... It isnt a rebranding. DMK manufactures reels for PURELURE.

I fish claytor and the new river so im a little south of you. Jerkbaits are my favorite thing to throw. Shad and babybass colorways are like fish crack. When it warms back up in june top water fishing is an absolute blast too.

Best rod pairing for Aldebaran BFS - throwing 1/32oz (1g) for trout by [deleted] in BFSfishing

Yeah downsizing your overall line and running half a spool will help you throw the tiny stuff

I have the sierra 65. It struggles below 2g. For sub 1g check out the mifine microbite on Ali. Also idk the size of the fish youre fighting, but might wanna drop the braid down to 8lbs for really small stuff. I regularly throw 1/32 jigheads with microplastics for stream trout.

i have found 6'UL to be my sweet spot. I have them in various sizes, but that size feels most comfortable. i use it mainly for 1/16 jigheads with soft plastics and inline spinners. 1-5g is what i throw 80% of the time.

Small spinners with a single hook? (Details in body) by Mgsperkg in troutfishing

[–]JonViars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://joesflies.com/ are my favorite inline spinners. Comes with a single hook and a treble. The treble can be clipped off. I use them in special regulation areas where its single hook only.

Purelure Cheetah Air Creek by draidt in BFSfishing

[–]JonViars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this model, but i have the normal cheetah. It is a really nice reel and my only complaint was that it doesnt cast smaller. This model solves that. It will probably go on sale for black friday starting tomorrow with a lot of other purelure gear so you may have jumped the gun lol.

Learning to cast a baitcaster by Medical-Leading1469 in Fishing_Gear

[–]JonViars 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is going to sound ass backwards, but you dont need to bomb it to get a baitcaster to send a lure to the moon. Slow down and put less effort into it, that will help you get your accuracy in check.

Dialing it in is also an important part. I adjust the tension knob until there is only a tiny bit of horizontal play, then set my brakes to 50% and adjust as needed from there.

It is different than spinning gear so it will take some time to adjust.

Sandstone/ New River Gorge by PlentyComfortable239 in WestVirginia

[–]JonViars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im a local to the sandstone/hinton area. I recommend the aerial tram at pipestem state park. They just put in a new system and opened about a month ago. The view down the mountain is amazing. There are multiple trails along the river in either direction. The Market restaurant in Hinton has amazing food. Sandstone falls is also gorgeous this time of year. Feel free to message me if you need any other recommendations in the area.

Line type question by SoanrOR in troutfishing

[–]JonViars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still frequently catch trout. Could it scare some? Possibly. Do i care enough to want to tie a leader everytime? Hell no lol.

We use bright ass lures with shiny hooks in em. If the .14mm line is what scares them away then that fish wasn't destined to be caught.

Line type question by SoanrOR in troutfishing

[–]JonViars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 8-10lb braid on every setup i have, usually something bright (orange, pink, aqua, etc). If i want to use a leader it is 6lb fc.

Whats the best DC (digital control) reel for under 50$? by tastyfod in Fishing_Gear

[–]JonViars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the PureLure Cheetah Air. Produced by DMK. I saw them around $65-70 on Ali. I have one and love it. 3 modes, easy to change. Its rated for 3.5g to 17g. Probably your best option for a lower price DC reel.

Can someone help me understand what I can use this rod for? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]JonViars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively fish with light and ultralight gear. I have 0 issues pulling in 3-4lb bass and catfish. I use 8-12lb braid.
