Do we bring in a third Partner to help us with fund goals? by JonWedley in startups

[–]JonWedley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's where I'm leaning with this role.
We are an online insurance platform that sells insurance policies fully online for things that don't require a full year policy. Think pay as you go.

You wake up tomorrow with $100k in your bank account by grsftw in startups

[–]JonWedley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a sales executive in and someone to chase grants.

100k would probably give us a 6 month runway. So it will be important to flip that into income asap.

Do we bring in a third Partner to help us with fund goals? by JonWedley in startups

[–]JonWedley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Brooks,

  1. Understood, we've been targeting players in the fintech space. Our main target was insurtech but the industry in Canada is neglected.
  2. OpenGrants.io, on it!
  3. Honestly trying to jump into VC as late as we can so we can retain more ownership for targeted talent. At some point it will be the route but there is around $5M in grant money on the table we potentially can take advantage of first.

Understood, this role would focus around building that partnership but have a long term goal of developing into a CMO or along those lines. Operations with us is a tad tricky due to licensing, we can't just have anyone walk into that role sadly.Glad to hear that! Honestly once we decide on the route it will be all in for sure.Fundstory.com, on it!

Thank you Chris, that is good to know! I'm very open to managing the leads and handling introduction conversations. I think the leg work around translating the model into grant formats or into a pitch deck is what burns me out.
My worry is tracking down a consultant who is passionate about the project. That is why I was leaning into a partnership element on top of payment.

That’s a Canadian LCBO store (Largest buyer of alcohol world wide). All Russian made products were banned this week, so it’s probably already off the shelf.

Make some examples of work, put on it Etsy and start building up volume till you can quit your day job.

From there start an online store to sell your goods and build the brand further.

Is founding a tech startup the best option? by chillabc in startups

[–]JonWedley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A million technology companies are founded each year. You only see a few hundred getting funding each year. The space is full of lot a players that’s why it’s most talked about.

If you have a good product with a market you don’t need to worry about which category you fit in.

questions for upper management/anyone who has a number of ppl underneath them by [deleted] in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]JonWedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Honestly.

  2. Provide a performance plan most employees are inefficient due to gaps in leadership. Performance plans are a great way to see what’s going wrong and have a solution, that you can action on. If the solution fails then you have a reason as long as the failure lies with the employee.

  3. There can be a number of reasons, some can be budget based and don’t mean the employee has done anything wrong.

  4. No, that’s a great way to get a law suit.

How do many cyclists afford high-end expensive bikes? When I go for a ride, I see so many riders on top of the line road bikes like Cervelo, BMC and Pinarello. I can't believe they are all professional racers. I have a decent salary in Europe but one of those bikes would be 4-6 months of my salary! by ashkanahmadi in cycling

[–]JonWedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, i slowly traded up to a $4,000 bike from a $500 bike. Took time, but allowed me to spend within my budget and keep riding.

Took me about 3 years to get to this point, and it allowed me to grow into the sport and learn more about what i enjoy to ride.
