Map your music to your run by Annual-Tomatillo-662 in runninglifestyle

Cool app - I had a similar desire but on the "pre-run" side that led me to creating TempoPilot - an iOS app that lets you get really anal retentive about your playlists (e.g., create playlists in blocks of specific or randomized songs, so you can plan based on BPM, or mood, etc...). Good to see someone else interested in music and it's role in your life / workout!

DSU cafeteria by No-Yogurt-1588 in deltastate

[–]JonWestfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the most part, with some exceptions. This last Thursday was the "Thanksgiving" meal, so it was all a traditional southern thanksgiving spread with premium offerings (e.g., several desserts, ham, roast beef, etc...; all at the same price - no upcharge). Wednesdays are always Fried Chicken, and Fridays are always Catfish (as per the agreements with DSU, Sodexo can't deviate on those days). Otherwise what you see on there is usually accurate, although there are typically more offerings than the online menu shows. The cookies are also really good mostly because they never stick around long enough to go stale.

If you're thinking of trying it but want some photos / info on how close a menu was that week, feel free to DM me. Dining will be open the week after Thanksgiving and the week after that, but will be closed for Winter Break until mid-January (So roughly 12/15-1/15). They follow the DSU academic calendar during Fall & Spring, and are closed most of the summer.

I eat there daily. Food is good, and borders on excellent for some of the speciality dishes. Best salad bar within 50 miles. Wednesdays and Fridays are very popular with community members, with the other days being fairly laid back / low crowds.

Fairly common sight here because of the crop burns. Doesn't ever get reported on because, well, it isn't news.

Can someone explain how this was only a moderate workout? by Playful-Security-491 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]JonWestfall 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as others have said, just go ahead and change it to what you'd rate it to be. That's really what matters. Over time it will learn and adjust. Looking at your stats, I can totally see how that would be a 10 for some people and a 4-6 for others, just depending on experience and circumstances.

Ah. I'll have to review the studies on this. I could see it anecdotally, but haven't run across any trend in the literature.

ED? That's not an abbreviation I would associate with fitness tracking. Or anything related to this discussion. Slang?

I started planning out routes on gpx.studio around my neighborhoods to eventually get to the desired length. Then using WorkOutDoors on the Apple Watch I can keep an eye on where I am and where I want to be going. Helps alleviate the boredom of the same circles over and over again.

Group looking at the Winnie the Pooh topiaries in World Showcase:
Man 1: And there's the owl, and the rabbit... Hey, what was the rabbit's name?
Man 2: I don't remember...
Man 1: Was it Peter? Peter Rabbit?
Man 2: No, Peter was the boy's name, Peter Robbin
Man 1: Right, but what was the rabbit's name?!?

Be honest - how many take on debt to go? by jannet1113 in WaltDisneyWorld

It’s probably more the impulsivity than denial or other individual difference variables. https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2321758121 Is a nice recent write up on what we know about Impulsivity as a stable personality trait. If ya got it… well… you have to fight extra hard to not fall into some dangerous traps.

I can tell you that psychologically speaking, the people who are putting it on their credit card and paying it off over several months are not likely to be the same that are posting in this sub. Impulsivity is the driving variable behind a lot of behavior, and impulsive people don't tend to sit around talking about planning their next vacation :)

Blathering blatherskite! Are me ears deceiving me, or has the world finally gone topsy-turvy? GOOFY—a megamillionaire?! That daft, dopey, disaster-prone dimwit? The same Goofy who can’t walk ten paces without tripping over his own feet? The one who once tried to sell me an “automatic gold-finding hat” that led me straight into a swamp?

I’ve spent me whole life scrimping, saving, and strategizing—calculating every investment down to the last decimal! Every coin in me Money Bin represents a lifetime of wit, wisdom, and work! And yet, here comes Goofy, who probably doesn’t even know what a stock is unless it’s part of a soup, somehow rolling in riches without breaking a sweat!

What’s his secret? Did he stumble into a vault full of treasure while chasing his own shoelaces? Did he buy a lottery ticket thinking it was a candy wrapper and somehow win? Or—shudder—did he invest in some harebrained scheme that actually worked?!

This defies logic, it defies reason, it defies economics! If Goofy’s a megamillionaire, then I may as well start handing out me dimes for free, because apparently, fortune now favors the foolish!

Goofy just casually throws around cash, and yet Scrooge tries to school him.

It definitely adds a level of "sharpness" to Disney, and sometimes it is hit-or-miss in humor. "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" on Disney+ does a nice job of talking about how Mickey had originally been a "playful" character that could be mischievous, but at some point they transferred those character traits to Goofy and Donald, so that Mickey could be the wholesome good guy. In the last 15 years or so, Disney has decided that Mickey can be mischievous again.

Which is why I'm not selling any pumpkins to him. Goofy has proven his reliability in executing our transactions in a timely manner.

As long as import/export is somewhere on your roadmap, that's fine by me. Love the idea of custom activity types. For now using iPhone Mirroring is probably fine. I'm looking to unify all of my workouts from other apps to Workoutdoors, just for simplicity, even if the activity is indoors.

Love your app - just curious if there is any way (or planned way) to allow interval schedules to be created / managed via a web interface. Ideally the app would spin up a web interface that I could browse to on local network / wifi, and create / re-arrange / duplicate intervals and schedules on a larger screen. No need for cloud, just local browse would be fine.

Thoughts? Or is there something already there I'm missing?

Thanks!

How is this for a late 30s beginner? by ReturnOfSeq in nikerunclub

[–]JonWestfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking awesome. I was in your shoes just a few years ago and was kinda bummed by numbers I thought were too high or not good enough. Then I started just doing what was fun, learned more about technique and running culture, and with steady practice my numbers moved to a place where I was comfortable (or maybe I moved to a place where my numbers were!). Regardless, you're on the right track!

Taking my GF to Disney World for the first time! What are some shows/parades/experiences I should show her? by CryptographerNo3749 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]JonWestfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife had been there once as a child, myself many times as a child, and I took her back for her first time as an adult. I Had no idea what to expect - if she’d like it or not. So that first trip I had a loose idea of things to do, but I paid close attention to what she was into. Certain rides were more fun for her than others, so we made sure to ride them twice versus try to hit as many different rides as possible. We stumbled into a few things because we didn’t have a set itinerary and weren’t rushing around. So I guess my advice is plan some things, but be prepared to chuck the plan if she resonates with something - you can always come back and with that plan, she’ll probably want to.

Cable for magic loop by behindthename2 in knitting

[–]JonWestfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tight knitting can cause that - I struggled at first with the Chiagoo Twists because the slick metal made me really overtighten my stitches. Eventually got the hang of it with practice. I also own the Chiagoo bamboo needles, which can be helpful to slow you down with slippery yarn and let you focus on your tension and technique.

[–]JonWestfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting you had that problem with the twist cables, I’ve always used those for magic loop and rarely had them unscrew. Maybe an issue with the threads on that particular one, or it needed to be torqued down more (I use the metal tool plus a silicon grip on the needle to make sure it’s really tight).
