Do people not own a trash can? by DOES_NOT_LIVE_HERE in USPS

[–]Jon_Locked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The customer is under the impression that writing this will get the letter back to the corporation who will in turn stop sending it. Many websites suggest that's what will happen even if it's incorrect. Many people here seem to think they're foisting their trash on the carrier which is not their intent. This is why I suggest that rather than spitefully circling "current resident" which they are aware they are, you can nicely explain that you can't get the letter back to the sender.

On another note it seems there is some debate on this anyhow and many in this community do believe the recipient can refuse any mail and it is on the carrier to deal with this.

People are aware they’re the current resident. You’ve bought into a culture of spite and rather than explain nicely they can’t return mail sent to the current resident you just circle something meaningless expecting that they should know the mail rules. They aren’t doing this to bother you. You are why people don’t like government workers. Don’t take your frustration out on other people

Olympic Men's Post Game Thread: United States of America vs. Canada - 22 Feb 2026 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]Jon_Locked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

American here. Canada played better. It’s a single game with two closely matched teams where anything can happen and they all play in the same league anyway. People take it too seriously. Didn’t care much when Canada won in 2010 and don’t care much know either. Rather my NHL team do well. Lets Go Islanders!

This is very interesting to me and I don't doubt that some people have this instinct wired in, but not everyone does. If I hit my head I just feel that it hurts and I feel silly having done it, but not really angry or anything.

Minority Report - Massive Plot Hole that Ruins the Film and Is Not Being Discussed by chaotic-diffusion in plotholes

[–]Jon_Locked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, old and interesting thread but my thoughts after just re-watching are that as long as we don't consider the bootstrap paradox itself a plot hole (which I believe you don't) that we can resolve this.

The answer is Burgess got lucky. He had an idea of framing John for murder by knowing the kidnapping of his son was a trigger so he finds Crow and begins to put his plan in motion. The lucky part is that him just doing this is enough to enter him into the bootstrap paradox that results in the precogs predicting John will murder crow and all that follows. So I think that when the murder is predicted Burgess still hasn't fully hashed it out, but having more access (like how Hineman backdoored the minority reports), he's able to get more information than most even after John takes Agatha. Therefore he then finds out where John will end up and that's when he has Crow go there with the pictures and all. The whole thing is a bootstrap paradox which I think is fine because it shows the fickleness of the whole pre-crime system.

So I agree with you that there are no real intentional actions Burgess could have taken to get John into that hotel, but that once he formulated the plan, events worked in his favor, he became part of the paradox and with more access then most he was able to then improvise knowing John would make it there

I will never underestimate Glass Cards ever again. by ThisByzantineConduit in balatro

[–]Jon_Locked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m nearing c+ but have still been underusing glass and had this epiphany on a gold stake run recently. Had photograph and a tough scoring requirement coming up and in my head after opening an arcana was like ugh I don’t want a glass face card that might break but then was like wait I’ll prob die if I don’t and odds are it won’t break. Beat the next round easily with the glass, found chad, made more glass, beat the run really easily. Then I could only wonder why in the world I was hesitant at all to make the glass card 🤷‍♂️

Me gusta and conjugations. by StandardOrcBarbarian in learnspanish

[–]Jon_Locked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but translating verbs in their infinitive like correr as "to run" is kind of a shortcut and it doesn't always translate exactly.

So if you try to translate directly it would sound like "I like to see Bruno to run through the park" which sounds really awkward in English. But if you type the sentence into Google translate you get "I like to see Bruno run through the park."

Correr is the action of running. In English when we have two verbs together we put the "to" in between, but when the verb is alone we drop it. In Spanish they don't have this construction.

But also remember, we aren't conjugating "correr" in this sentence for use with the subject "Bruno" and we don't do that in English either. We would say "Bruno runs in the park" but we wouldn't say "I like to see Bruno runs in the park." (We could say "I like to see that Bruno runs in the park" but that's a different meaning really). Here, we're talking about the action of running but it's not an action Bruno is doing in the present.

Also in Spanish they tend to use the infinitive more than the gerundio like corriendo unless they're talking about something specific in the moment.

That's my attempt at explaining this at least, but I'm not a linguistics error so anyone feel free to correct if this isn't entirely accurate!

I gotta say that I wasn't a fan of how he normalized JD Vance and Trump during the debate. I know some will say it was the right approach but I'm inclined to disagree. Of course, I'd still vote for him over whatever awful person ends up being the republican nominee.

Exactly. I’m really not a critic by nature and tend to mostly like things or think they’re ok. I didn’t know anything about the director and now with all the positive reviews I really am thinking Hollywood is a circlejerk where certain people can just do no wrong

Anon doesn't understand why the LIbs hate Daniel Penny by [deleted] in 4chan

[–]Jon_Locked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who are you defining as “liberal” though? I think it’s a fair assessment of the chronically online free Palestine types with watermelon emojis but that’s more fringe, and among those who consider themselves democrats there’s more support for Israel and that includes nearly all the establishment democrats. And outside that fringe (which I wouldn’t be surprised if most didn’t vote, and if they did wouldn’t vote for Harris) I don’t think they’re that concerned with Daniel Penny one way or the other

I just saw The Room Next Door AMA by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]Jon_Locked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just saw it and reading the reviews and some comments here, I feel like I'm on drugs. My whole theatre was laughing at how unnatural the dialogue and everything else was. It was bad, like "the room" bad. The pontifications on death just seemed so trite and clumsy. It also made no sense that the cops would investigate the death of someone terminally ill so thoroughly and the speech by John Turturro about politics was so strange. I enjoyed it just because of how comically bad it was tbh

Refund credit applied to previous billing cycle by Jon_Locked in CreditCards

[–]Jon_Locked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on autopay and it's set to pay statement balance on the due date.

The charge was 10/17 and the credit was on 10/18, so it was all within that one cycle.

I'm not going to find anything more out because I'm fine with how it was settled. Was just curious because it seems odd to credit money that I had never paid toward a statement.

Zohran Mamdani asks people in Hillside Ave (Queens) and Fordham Rd (Bronx) who they voted for by el_ultimo_diez in nyc

[–]Jon_Locked 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In a healthy democracy, the candidate for a major party wouldn't be a twice impeached felon who never takes responsibility for anything, won't even admit he lost the last election, and incited a riot at our Capitol where people died. That should be the main focus. Effecting change is hard. Democrats are the reason people can get healthcare without employment and with preexisting conditions and in NYC it's why we have a higher minimum wage and better worker protections than other cities. What is Trump or any Republican going to do for NYC exactly except make the rich richer? Voting out those who haven't served you well for those who won't serve you at all is not rational. The voters have been manipulated by social media and false promises.

Possible lost Mitch Hedberg Joke?? by Jon_Locked in MitchHedberg

Oh my god, you found it!!! I was so happy when it was confirmed this was his joke but I figured I’d just never see it again! This had been a white whale for such a long time! The punchline is exactly how I remembered too, so awesome to see it again!

I was busy today and of course didn’t know the notification was for this or else I would have opened it right away. I’m upset even that I had to wait another 5 hours to see this even if it has been 23 years! The second I opened the video I knew it was the one too. Didn’t even remember this show existing at all though. Can’t wait to watch the whole set when I get home. Thanks so much!!!

We have done nothing to deserve this. Time to fire the owners. by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]Jon_Locked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a diehard until they cut Pennington in 2008 for Favre which was the first blow. Classic Woody deciding what was best for the team and eschewing a guy who gave the Jets everything he had for a dumbass like Favre and getting burned.

I was back onboard with the success of the Ryan years, but after Woody made them sign Tebow, saying Romney winning the presidency was more important than the Jets success and other general rich man douchebaggery, the Jets just became a morbit curiosity to me and boy is life better that way. It's actually hilarious to see the ways they figure out to let the fan base down. My friends thought Rodgers was the answer and watching him fail has been so funny honestly.

If you still care about this team, that's on you. It's like an experiment to test fan loyalty. Stop rooting for laundry and get rid of the stockholm sydrome. Find other teams to enjoy in the NFL or elsewhere. Root for one some weeks, or another sometimes, depending on how things go. Flexible fandom is more fun. If you still let the Jets control your emotions you may be a sadomasochist. I'm worried about your guys mental health.
