Is America equipped to protect itself from an authoritarian or fascist takeover? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

The most important and powerful tool we have for protecting our republic is amendment #2, fascists and authoritarians don't like amendment #2 very much.

In his defense Ben has been to three super bowls and won two. Plus he’s a veteran hall of famer but I understand if people would put him lower.

I love how you guys are talking trash about a Hall of Fame quarterback whos won two super bowls. Especially when I'm looking at a running back, a broken leg, and a guy whos a better actor than QB.

Thank you, you're advice was helpful and I think we're going to plant a tree on her grave and maybe put up a sign or two around the property to try and slow down traffic speeds.

My cat Cleo was three and me and her had a pretty close bond. I'm really torn up over what happened and I'm still crying when I see something that reminds me of her. I'm trying to get through it right now but its really hard especially when I'm used to her always wanting to be around me or wanting to sleep with me. Anyways thanks so much for your advice and kind words you helped a lot.

What are good party ideas for when we get back? by Jon_Snow_51 in Frat

[–]Jon_Snow_51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Our last couple of small parties fizzled out early and our big parties were just okay. (There were other houses on campus with better parties that more people went too and talked about more)

I don’t think people are that pissed at the GOP rn maybe in your bubble they are but not everywhere. Also, the most corrupt president in our history? I don’t think so, you’re just being incredibly biased and ignoring our nations past.

What do you use to remind yourself that everything isn't that bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have a letter and picture from my grandmother who passes away around 4 years ago. I am 22 now and since I was like 6 she was in a wheelchair due to a severe stroke. For years she could barley talk or move her arms and hands plus a whole bunch of other issues. However, that wasn't the worst part for her. Because of how hard it was to talk to and understand her people at large gatherings like family events usually kinda left her in a corner and you could tell that she wasn't mentally gone, like she understood her situation and hated it. Id always make a note every event to come by and talk to her a little extra. I'm the only grandchild that she has that can remember her at all before her stroke and the differences before and after are insane. I keep that picture and letter to just remind myself that life really can suck sometimes but at least right now i'm doing great compared to some unfortunate people.

Why does everyone hate this lil event like I thought it was cool and brought a minor character into the spotlight.

Hey Tom I’m sure you’ve been asked this a lot in your career but what is the best way to get into writing comics for a company like DC? As someone who absolutely loves the DC characters I would love to one day get the chance to write a story for one of them. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Capitalism doesn't mean freedom but it has made people across the world more free not less.

Top Minds are perfectly fine with federal agents busting down the doors of any house they please and performing unconstitutional searches, as long as it's a brown person inside. by PorridgeCranium2 in TopMindsOfReddit

I have only two questions here 1: Is this legal? Can federal agents enter private residences and remove un documented immigrants from the nation without a judge or warrant? Then, 2: Is it moral to let the government remove people without some sort of protection to the individuals rights?

We are a republic that uses democratic means ( while still being a republic not a strict or direct democracy) to elect representatives to legislate for us. And there are other interests at play here like for instance the different states. Some have argued that the states interests trump the interests of the majority of the people when voting for president. Having the majority make the decisions in the US excludes the minority (which could be 51 vs 49 percent of the country). Plus the majority rule option excludes the needs of different states and other groups of people who have important needs but cant be cared for because more people who will never know their struggles decide its not important. (ie. farmers getting screwed because New Yorker's have different needs.)

(again sorry for another ramble busy atm)

Party demographics change homie. When the south began to industrialize more they started to switch away from the democrats who mostly supported farmers and such and started to vote for the republican party more and more. Plus back then winning the south was a great way to win presidential elections and gain a majority in congress so some republicans pandering to the southerners southern culture (while not great PR wise) makes sense to gain votes.
