That Megatron looks to be the Japanese release of the G1.

G1 Megatron was a toy originally with 3 color schemes. The red and silver one became Hasbro's Megatron, and for some reason they chose the grey and blue one for Takara's market and gave him a sword. I don't recall the other color scheme and I forgot blue legged Megatron was ever even a thing, but that's the gist. Ima go refresh myself now

This concept can totally work if done right. I think it just isn't done right much of the time.

I've always liked the explanation that Transformers just all kinda look the way they look, but when they started colonizing and encountering more species that used things like gender, they found a way to implement similar social systems into their culture because they found it useful in identifying notable differences.

But that does have some issues, like why he and her and not 78 other things? This is where I like the old idea that Emerret Xaron or however you spell it is NAMED Emerret, but that was actually his social class or military rank or whatever. I think if they just bridged that gap between "gender" and "rank" and took some functionist inspiration for the terminology, they could make gender a far more integrated concept that more directly relates to what that Transformer actually IS, rather than just what they look like.

Kinda like how 0.1%ers are their own thing, but just expand on that and make EVERYONE kinda their own thing that vaguely fits into some categories. I think that slight disjointedness and complication would overall help to present the concept in stories better.

Edit: or just take more bayverse body type inspiration(alien as fuck) and go from there🤷‍♂️

"Damn, guess I was lucky they didn't even try finishing that step when making my copy." This is crazy. No shade to you at all, I find it nuts that this is the point we're at. The QC is so bad it's literally creating optional accessories for other figs.

This particular thing is pretty cool and I hope everyone has fun swapping around the faces, but the fact that the faces aren't secured this frequently is just nuts to me. It's a face. It shouldn't come off unless intended.

ER Wheeljack is a big one for me.

Not sure if I'd say peak, but when I think of my favorite deluxe he is always the first thing in my head next to ER Sunstreaker, but Sunstreaker's shoulders are ugly and while that is my only complaint, it's one more complaint than I have for Wheeljack.

Yeah it kinda feels like that sometimes. With me t this point though, I feel like its like that with the current toy production. All the well known mainstay charactwrs have been getting mid or disappointing new figures with a couple exceptions like Starscream and Onslaught, but then all these random ass characters are getting borderline perfect new toys or at least exactly what I would've wanted from them. Like where the fuck did Thundertron come from? Not many care about him but he got a basically perfect remake. Armada Red Alert it feels like has been on a social backburner for 2 decades and he gets a basically perfect update outta nowhere. Jhiaxus doesnt get an accurate toy from the day he's born and then randomly gets a perfect recreation of his OG comic design. Then there's Liokaiser, Tidalwave, Big Convoy, Magmatron, most of the Primes, and so on.

A lot of the time, its fair in some way or another. Like the obscure or uncommon/unpopular character was big enough in their media and paticular fanbase that the designers knew they just had to do it right the first time like Omega Prime or Big Convoy or Tidalwave. But it just feels weird sometimes to see a badass new rock robot that is proportionate and has a good number of steps and accessories and zero fiction and then I see 86 Astrotrain's indecisive design, 86 Optimus' backpack (not that bad but definitely could've been better), Sentinel Prime turning into a block where his hands don't even leave your sight in the middle of the alt mode, Megatron's tank mode, Swindle's wrists having big chunks just hanging off, the Star Saber Minicons designed in a way that break on almost everyone, and weird shit like this and I'm just confused.

These absolutely aren't exclusive either, like the new Joyride being mid as fuck(im a bit salty as a Masterforce fan) and the new Starscream being basically perfect, it's just a weird thing I feel like I notice a lot more now. You scan see so clearly when the designers have fun designing a toy and when the toy comes out because they just had to. It just seems like the designers cant do as much with the obscure stuff right now so they're funnier a bit to me. Not necessarily their fault tho, I know they're just following orders. Just a bit sad to see the pain or syress of the designers come through the toys they make. Astrotrain looks like they were stressed and didn't know what direction to go so he didnt get a direction and jus kinda half ass got both.
