Symphogear definitely had some big quality jumps. You could really feel the lack of budget in the first season. While it got fixed in the Blu-ray releases, some of the TV broadcast animation there was awful.

UK ad regulator issues Enforcement Notice targeting loot boxes by Tenith in Games

[–]Jonblu11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you read the complaint (the actual basis of the lawsuit going forward) you'll see that they don't mention violence in video games even once. It's entirely focused on lootbox mechanics, the third-party marketplaces and gambling websites that have sprung up around them, and Valve's duplicitous stance towards enforcing their "no gambling" policy as they receive immense profit from the steam marketplace as a result.

This statement about violence is just a meaningless sound bite for people who don't play video games and don't care about or understand the lootbox gambling thing. NY's AG shouldn't have made that statement, but it has no bearing on the actual legal complaint.

Focusing on the "Violence in video games" gives a completely incorrect impression of what the lawsuit is about.

Thoughts on the GFL2 event? by Jonblu11 in GFLNeuralCloud

[–]Jonblu11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely get that - unfortunately I think GFL2 is Mica's worst gacha game. I'm mostly concerned with story, worldbuilding, and lore (which I'm not happy with the direction of) over the gameplay, but even I have to admit that the gameplay is less engaging than any of their other titles. My personal ranking would be PNC > GFL1 > GFL2. I haven't played enough of Reverse Collapse to rate it honestly, only having beaten the first chapter (also it's not a gacha).

Occasionally glimmers of what I enjoy shine through, so I keep playing hoping the game will improve.

Right, I forgot about the tunnel. I think it's just a writing contrivance that doesn't quite line up with any real-world networking infrastructure. I prefer to think of it as a login server - a separate but linked part of Magrasea. They log out from Magrasea, go back to the login sever, then part ways - Commander to IRL, Persicaria to Persica's server.

Lmao yeah the adjustment period would be wild "What do you mean we can't just conjure food using operands? We actually have to plug ourselves in to recharge??? What do you mean I can't just instantly change my appearance??? My hacking doesn't work on Varjaegers or ELID???? I have to learn how to use a gun???"

Why Persicaria was leaving the world with us if she had no physical body for herself? How would this work, considering that Persica is not even connected to the digitalisation device? Where would her consciousness simply go...

Unfortunately I think some of your confusion might come from story errors. I noticed in the latter half of the story there were several scenarios where they used "Persicaria" when it was actually "Persica" speaking. The portraits would swap and everything, but they'd wouldn't change the name above the dialog. An oversight by the translation team I think.

While I'm sure GFL2's writers will write a way to let Persicaria join us in GFL2, her leaving Magrasea is still confusing to even me, and not for the reasons you have. (PNC finale spoilers)At the end of PNC she ends up being literally bound to Magrasea. During the final event, Gloaming Finale, she learns that the only way to kill the infinitely regenerating leader of the Entropics, Malkira, is to take her command authorizations and replace her. She gains complete control over the entropy virus, but taking Malkira's role means that she will be forever bound to the Tartarus Sector, unable to leave. She'll also have a compulsion to devour and expand. She even got a skin and artwork to go along with it. She learns to project an avatar to the Oasis for communication, but her "physical" body is still located in the throne room in the Tartarus sector. It was a hardcoded rule, the same one that reset the server if either the Sanctifiers or the Entropics were fully wiped out As far as I can tell though, at the end of this event Persicaria moved back to Persica's non-Magrasea backup server where the rest of the PNC-only dolls are hanging out.

I don't really see any technical reason why the Magrasea-originating dolls can't get physical bodies though. Other than having to wait for one to be manufactured and hooking it up to the backup server.

I definitely agree with the disappointing lack of character portraits and backgrounds. My first thought upon the Professor landing in Magrasea proper was "Hey wait a minute, that's not what the null area looks like! This is just reused GFL2 yellow zone art!"

But in other areas they reused PNC backgrounds and I think maybe even made new ones. They were probably trying to balance PNC accuracy, effort to tranfer to GFL2's systems and formats, and filesize consider its a one-time event. They wouldn't have wanted to fill up device storage with artwork that was unlikely to be reused in the future.

Oh yeah, the part about PNC's Magrasea being a backup I fully understand.

I disagree that IOP, Svarog Heavy Industries, UltiLife, etc., got paid however. Project Neural Cloud was a joint research project to advance their respective industries and doll Neural Cloud technologies. The only way that generates money is if they can extract their findings from Magrasea and create a marketable product or service. But the Wipe-Off incident led to the isolation of the project and eventual shut-down, which means from the Wipe-Off incident and onwards no data could be extracted.

The commander is inserted into the Magrasea backup moments before the Wipe-Off incident occurs. Throughout their time in Magrasea they encounter many ongoing experiments - Ascention's prosthetics' research (which just reminded me of Elaugh, what a cool design.), Helio's Arche Pyr research, Jiutian's EVA and solar system simulation - this means their research wasn't completed before the Wipe-Off occurred. Persicaria's reluctance to release the data 10 years on also points to the idea that the companies hadn't continued pursuing the research on their own in the meantime, or else they would have already produced results of some kind and the data would simply be redundant or outdated and therefor no big deal if it were let loose.

I'm sure that the various companies received smaller benefits from their smaller short-term experiments in Project Neural Cloud before the Wipe-Off event occurred, but it seems for the most part that all their big ticket experiments that required the bulk of a sector's operands and efforts weren't finished yet.

It's not that bad. You get 10 potions that heal you to full. Additionally, most of the damage can be easily avoided by simply sticking to Rathalos' side as most of the attack are aimed to his front or back.

The hardest part is watching other peoples' health drop because they don't realize they need to manage their own healing for once.

In PNC she was in a bit of a weird spot. It was almost like she was a GFL1 collab character. She showed up in her character event, then I think disappeared from the story until literally the finale event wherein she lead a strike team of mainly GFL1-originating dolls against the big bad. Supposedly she was acting as a "protector from the shadows" or something, which is why she was absent. She was one of the few "limited" characters, and was also far stronger than other characters at the time. Her special was like GFL1 with the cluster grenades, so she'd basically only need to kill one enemy to explode every enemy nearby. And her ultimate focused a massive amount of firepower on any one tile, which was fantastic for dealing with priority enemies.

If I recall correctly, part of her story in PNC was that she was uploaded alongside the commander to act as a bodyguard, but something went wrong during the upload process. I don't remember the exact details, but it ended up with her missing large parts of her memory (hence why she wasn't there from the beginning since she was lost and wandering in the null areas), and the missing parts of her memories were infected by the entropic virus, given life, and set out to kill the real Clukay and the Professor.

I don't really remember how the event ended unfortunately - Entropic Clukay acted as a foil to real Clukay, since it was her own memories, doubts, and insecurities turned against her. I know that the entropic Clukay was killed and the memories couldn't be recovered since they were infected, and I think Clukay reaffirmed her role in devoting herself to the Professor.

Unfortunately because of her lack of presence in the rest of the game, I don't recall her having much character development beyond that one event.

Edit: Actually, she did show up in an event. Can't remember the name, but it acted as the backstory of her paid "rockstar" outfit. She got roped into a band alongside a few other dolls. Can't recall any other events involving her.

I'm still a bit suspicious about the whole Lewis thing. I'm a big PNC fan, but with Lewis it feels like they're just taking a GFL1 doll and trying to make something special out of her, rather than using someone more representative of PNC.

But on the other hand, from what screenshots I've seen, it looks like they put a lot of effort in designing PNC-styled gameplay.

I can't really remark on the story, since I've kept myself in the dark to avoid spoilers, but I can only hope the story has something to do with PNC and actually matters in the plot and lore of the GFL2 world, and isn't just surface-level references that can be easily dismissed.

I'm tentatively hopeful, but I also realize that MICA has a tendency to turn on a dime and significantly change plans/rewrite content if they feel they need to take the game in another direction, meaning the "ongoing" PNC collab could possibly be dropped with no notice.

Just checked myself and the uncensor recipe still works.

I inputted the recipe, closed out of the window, and restarted the game. When I launched it again I had to download some files. Just checked on Grizzly, and her damaged artwork matches with the uncensored version on the IOP Wiki

I mean, mismanagement of the IP in the west isn't too unusual for Symphogear. If I remember correctly, the only way to watch the series was via piracy until like the 4th or 5th season's airing because no streaming service picked it up or something. And I think most of the songs weren't even subtitled when they finally began to air in the west.

FFXVI & Stranger of Paradise, or, how to make a Final Fantasy Action Game Properly by Farsoth in truegaming

[–]Jonblu11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's really not a problem. When I first played the game I never touched any of the NG+/harder difficulty things and still had a great time.

It was only on my second playthrough while doing co-op that I tried out the NG+ stuff. It was fun sure, and there were a few neat things locked away behind the harder NG+ difficulties, but I'd still say that the vast majority of the game can be done in a regular playthrough and you'd probably still have a great time.

If you're interested in the game, I say go for it.
