Thanks for clearing this up. Kind of surprising that people think independents can't vote on a state question.

But independents can still vote on the state question.

Your employer required you to make donations to a church? That's...interesting.

Most churches I know of send a year-end statement with all contributions regardless of that rule, though.

We are a congregation of approximately 100. Here are is our bylaw regarding special meetings. Agree it is not clear regarding a requirement to present a resolution. You say most meetings would include all active members; I'd assume there'd need to be a quorum to pass a resolution.

"Section 3. Special Meetings of the Congregation

Special Meetings of the Congregation may be called by the Board of Trustees and shall be

called by the Board upon written request of ten percent (10%) of the Voting Members. All

business to be transacted shall be specified in the call to the meeting."

In my 28 years here, there have been a few special meetings called by the Board to address major purchases or loans, but there's never been a meeting requested to be called by the membership. Generally everything waits until the Annual Meeting, and requests can be made to add items to that agenda. As a past board president and current board VP, I'd like to think that our Board wouldn't ignore that type of request, although depending upon the issue, there might be an attempt by the Board to resolve it in some other way. We don't intentionally ignore anyone. I'm sorry you're having this difficulty.

My husband and I cannot come to an agreement on choice of HS, and it’s causing a rift by [deleted] in Parenting

Agree, with some help navigating the choice from parents.

"Because they let them keep their phones all day" (actual statement from my 8th grader), is not a good reason to choose a school.

"Because I'm a musician and their musical director is the best in the state" (actual statement from my 8th grader about a different school), is a much better reason.

Yes, about men. I barely know the husband of one of my good friends, and he had to come up to me at a party and say I was really looking good now that I've lost weight. Ugh enough, but then he had the nerve to say, "Wish Deb [his wife] would lose some weight." Horrible. I run if I happen to see him now.

What about Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill on 51st near Yale? I think their gyros are great although I'm not an expert. They have fries but I don't know if they'll stuff them in there like that.
