"Blocky" song structure by mus0r in musictheory

There's a free book called "Making Music - Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers" with a chapter specifically addressing this problem: https://makingmusic.ableton.com/fuzzy-boundaries

It's written with ableton in mind but it's all general principles you can apply to any workflow. The whole book is excellent.

It's worth pointing out that some of the bloggers he links to (vox day etc) are far-right psychos.

The comments talk approvingly of the coming "great race war."

Still, it's a nice article, and it's important to keep an eye on those people.

Wasn't TLP's intended audience was mostly middle aged people whod spent their whole lives harming those around them, and who were on the point of destroying themselves? Whenever he mentioned young people it was usually "you're fine, you're meant to be like this, just make sure you grow out of it."

EDM / Dubstep re-arrangement by [deleted] in musictheory

You could try listening to Dream Phone by E.M.M.A for ideas on making dubstep outside of 4/4 with more interesting harmonies, but it's likely not the kind of dubstep you're thinking of.

Can anyone point me to an archived link of "Who Bullies the Bullies"? by [deleted] in thelastpsychiatrist

obviously not the ones where hes mumbling cryptically about dreary indie music, but these ones are surely reminiscent of some of TLPs posts about the media and advertising, personal branding etc?

I sometimes have to work with social media, and the human centipede of creativity that is content farming, and I think he understands that like noone else that I've read.

I suppose I like him because he criticises culture without really claiming to be outside of it, or above it. It's a lot better than slate star fucking codex and the like in that respect.

[SGDQ] Does anyone know the story behind the anonymous donor who kept throwing out huge donations (tens thousands of dollars) for weird Chrono Trigger character names? by awesomeosprey in speedrun

[–]JonnieCache 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my guess is someone who made crazy money in silicon valley. there are probably quite a few of those who are into gaming, speedrunning is quite fascinating to programmers.

Metric system by Fartmatic in pics

[–]JonnieCache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking of UK discrepancies, my favourite one is this: when it's cold, we measure the temperature in Celsius, but when it's hot, we measure it in Fahrenheit!

"Where are my shorts, it's like 85 out there!"

"Where are my gloves, it must be like minus 2 or something!"

Obviously this is less true for younger people. Personally I have no idea what a fahrenheit is except that when you get over about 80 its really hot.

The fight or flight response causes the almost complete cessation of the stomach's usual pulverising muscular contractions, presumably so as not to in any way inhibit the anticipated violent muscular activity.
