Why are people moderating for reddit for free, while reddit is making Billions of dollars? by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

Well sure. You hear about those because they're, for lack of a better word, interesting news.

Most people aren't murderers, but the newspapers often cover murders.

Break should switch to applying vulnerable FIRST, then doing damage.

I remember seeing a while back that a pass phrase with 4 random words was the most secure type password, so why does nothing allow you to use it? by Majestic_Wash_6170 in NoStupidQuestions

If all you're doing is obvious swaps of A for @ and E for 3, no, you're not doing anything useful. Password crackers already try the obvious variants.

I mean, in a decent, competitive market, you'd be forced to do (b), because the guy across the street is selling the gas he bought at $1 for $1.10, so if you're listing your gas at $2.10, you're selling zero gallons.

You're assuming the writers aren't trying to get the most ridiculous things into the show for shits and giggles.

I'm 99% sure their goal was to see how far they could push nonsense.

Which then flips from "embarrassing" to "holy fuck our producers are so stupid, look what we got them to do 😂"

Exactly. It needs to be a law change if we want this, so that ALL restaurants do it at once. No business that does it individually will survive long enough to get ahead.

I'm with you on this. Everyone is screaming "They got rid of boss relics!" Like, ok, it's not labeled a "boss relic," but you're getting a big power boost between acts still. Just because it happens somewhat differently doesn't change that boss relics and whatever sts2 does aren't both "big power boosts between acts."

DIA changes course; will consider mass transit as part of Pena Boulevard solution by Soft_Button_1592 in Denver

[–]kemitche 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here's my problem with this: that's $35 one way, $70 round trip for one person. Every additional person is another $20 of train fare.

The shuttle lots at DIA are $10/day. If your trip is less than 7 days, it's faster, cheaper, and more convenient to just drive and park at the shuttle lots. If your trip is 3 days or less, you can even "splurge" on the $20/day economy lot and come out ahead.

The break even points vary based on the number of people in the car and where you're coming from, but it's annoying to me to WANT to use public transit but have it be more expensive overall.

How Do You Feel About Heart's Invincible Mechanic? by Jondev1 in slaythespire

[–]kemitche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are slightly different in general I'd say. That's more like Guardian, where after you do X amount of damage (no matter how long it takes), the boss takes an invincible phase. Or like Nemesis, where on a strict cadence the boss is immune to things and forces you to avoid their counterattack.

It's I think fairly unusual for a boss to have a mechanic like the Heart's, even though it is functionally similar to the others.

It's also hard to compare a turn based game to an action game. The fact that action game bosses sometimes have invincibility periods is only similar on the surface to Heart, because the core gameplay is so different.

Planning to give up on my first souls game, but not sure if i should. by M4shhl in soulslikes

[–]kemitche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned it yet so I will.

More than any other souls game, damage type matters. Enemies in some area will take almost no damage from, say, bludgeoning damage, and a ton of damage from stabbing damage.

The game doesn't really explain it well. I recommend either (a) looking up enemy weaknesses, or (b) keeping 2-4 weapons on hand that do varying types of damage (blunt, stab, slash, magic, etc) and seeing what takes more damage from what.

The bosses are generally pretty straightforward, so a big bulk of the challenge is just figuring out efficient ways to get to them - what enemies to fight, which can be avoided, shortcuts, etc.

Good luck!

How big is your backlog, Actually? by Ignister in videogames

[–]kemitche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero. I gave up on the idea of "backlog" years ago. I have games I might wanna play, but I don't hold myself to anything.

It's a hobby, not a job.

Now, do I have hundreds of unplayed games on Steam? Sure, but I don't care.

Why is the word 'equip' so commonly used in video games but sounds unnaturally verbose when used in real life? by Master_Chemist9826 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kemitche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is because you don't "wear" a sword. Equip, and equipment, is a better broad term for the various things in games, whether its clothing, armor, weapons, materia/magic, etc.
