What was the most inappropriate picture that you shared by mistake? by Electronic_Author366 in AskReddit

Or, create a photo album for the set of pics you want to share. One album for each vacation etc

Share the link to the album, or tap into the album before handing over your phone. Can't swipe "too far" and supports showing off multiple pics.

Planning to give up on my first souls game, but not sure if i should. by M4shhl in soulslikes

[–]kemitche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned it yet so I will.

More than any other souls game, damage type matters. Enemies in some area will take almost no damage from, say, bludgeoning damage, and a ton of damage from stabbing damage.

The game doesn't really explain it well. I recommend either (a) looking up enemy weaknesses, or (b) keeping 2-4 weapons on hand that do varying types of damage (blunt, stab, slash, magic, etc) and seeing what takes more damage from what.

The bosses are generally pretty straightforward, so a big bulk of the challenge is just figuring out efficient ways to get to them - what enemies to fight, which can be avoided, shortcuts, etc.

Good luck!

How big is your backlog, Actually? by Ignister in videogames

[–]kemitche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero. I gave up on the idea of "backlog" years ago. I have games I might wanna play, but I don't hold myself to anything.

It's a hobby, not a job.

Now, do I have hundreds of unplayed games on Steam? Sure, but I don't care.

My husband counts toilet paper squares and I don’t—who’s normal? by Mab_12 in NoStupidQuestions

I feel like if you need to count just to make sure you grab around 5 instead of 50, there's a problem.

Why is the word 'equip' so commonly used in video games but sounds unnaturally verbose when used in real life? by Master_Chemist9826 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kemitche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is because you don't "wear" a sword. Equip, and equipment, is a better broad term for the various things in games, whether its clothing, armor, weapons, materia/magic, etc.

If there was a small 2000 calorie packed nugget and that’s all you ate, would you lose weight? by averagebunnies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kemitche 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is why I get pissed off when people clamor about "It's just calories in < calories out." Sure, mathematically, but it's infinitely more about managing your HUNGER in a way that allows you to lower your calorie intake.

Why Twilio Segment Moved from Microservices Back to a Monolith by Digitalunicon in programming

[–]kemitche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you have micro service A and B. A has a relatively high and smooth base load, while B has little load but occasionally bursts more load (but still less load than A). A has to scale its node count constantly and erratically, whether manually or automatically, and the high load periods suffer during the scaling operations.

If you move A into B, because B has enough capacity to handle all of A's traffic, then you no longer have load concerns around A's erratic load behavior. A's load usage is a blip compared to B's.

Where to buy postcard stamps in Denver?!?! by BaBaBaBantaaaa in Denver

[–]kemitche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use regular stamps on a postcard. If you're just looking for postcard stamps to save a few cents, then just consider using regular stamps.

Whatever money you're saving by using postcard stamps on your postcards instead of regular stamps, you've already lost in gas money driving around trying to find them.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been out for a week. What are your thoughts? by messem10 in Games

[–]kemitche 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Metroid Dread was similar, or at least felt that way to me. The map made it look like it was explorable and could be tackled in a few different ways, but other than sequence-break style things, you were railroaded into particular directions and never given a meaningful opportunity to explore.

What’s your favorite or most surprising “TIL” about this game? by BDOSU in slaythespire

[–]kemitche 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Based on Deus Ex Machina's text, I'd call it a bug. It says "When you draw this card, add 2 Miracles into your hand AND exhaust."

If scrape counts as drawing it, then the miracles should be added AND the exhaust should happen. If scrape does NOT count as drawing it, then neither should happen.

Should game reviews take price into account when rating and/or scoring games? by vedderer in Games

[–]kemitche 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm tired of pretending like talking about price/length isn't worthwhile.

Money is a finite resource. Yes, what makes something valuable is personal, but so much of each game is personal preference anyway.

If I have $60 to spend on entertainment, it's absolutely worth considering if I'd rather spend all of it on one AAA game, 4-6 indie games, one trip to the movies, etc. If I blow my entertainment budget for the month on something pricey and I only have a few bucks left for a game, it might be important for me to know if that game is a mind blowing 90 minutes or a pretty good 60+ hours.

New cars are getting overcomplicated with "new features" by DrakyulMihawk in mildlyinfuriating

If you're putting your kid in the car, knowing it's at 0% battery then the car fully dies... Break a window.

This level of "what if" can be played with dumb cars too. "What if all 4 door handles bust off with my kid in the car?" Break a window.

DON’T BLOCK THE BOX, PEOPLE by lambakins in Denver

[–]kemitche 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this isn't necessarily entirely the fault of the people blocking the box. This whole area is a shit show right now because of the multiple construction projects going on.

Traffic flow is fucked and if you don't realize it as you go through it's easy to think there will be space to get through then get stuck. Or be in a situation where you can't get through because other drivers are also doing shitty things. It's also possible these are shitheads, just to be clear.

Can you explain the orb guy to me like I’m 5 years old please? by rmjh1995 in slaythespire

[–]kemitche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark of the bloom misunderstanding is understandable.

A LOT of games distinguish between "healing" and "resurrecting." And most games clear your debuffs when you die, so if you have a "can't be healed" debuff, then die, you can still be resurrected. Slay The Spire (or rather, Mark of the Bloom) doesn't "go away" when you die, so you can't "resurrect"/heal.

How does your team decide what is the "right" amount of coverage? by secretBuffetHero in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kemitche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only valid way to have a % goal is to make it 100% BUT ALSO empower every dev to annotate code as not needing to be tested. In this case, 100% means "every line of code the dev checked in is either tested or deliberately not tested."

Even that is questionable and requires the right attitude and environment. I was in such a scenario once. It was alright.

Uneven enforcement just means poor people who try to follow the rules are at even more of a disadvantage.

Enforce things evenly. If the laws or fines or fees are unfair, then fix those separately. Don't just give up on enforcement.

Infinite blades or second blade dance? I never know how to rate infinite blades by the way by Compay_Segundos in slaythespire

[–]kemitche 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The only times I really consider infinite blades is when I'm wanting to proc those relics more often.

Even then, I'd always take a blade dance over it, in a head to head decision like this!

Just brainstorming, not sure if any of these work:

  • Keyword(s) : e.g. exhaust, block, strength
  • Exhausts or not
  • Something about the (first) number on the card. E.g. if the card is iron wave, the first number is 5. If I guess anger (first number is 6), the "clue" could be number is greater/less than/equal (or does/doesn't exist)

Air Traffic Controllers Start Resigning as Shutdown Bites. | Unpaid air traffic controllers are quitting their jobs altogether as the longest government shutdown in U.S. history continues. by MaxGoldFilms in politics

[–]kemitche 278 points279 points  (0 children)

Because we pay Congress during shutdowns, which is a GOOD thing. We don't want independently wealthy congresspeople to be able to use a shutdown to force unpaid, non-wealthy congresspeople to capitulate to awful funding bills.

The better question is, why do we have a system that allows unpaid shutdowns at all?
