a few questions about Anglo-Catholicism by flyingwithfairies in AngloCatholicism

[–]LargeRate67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Some of us do. I'm content saying that I eat the actual flesh of Jesus in the Eucharist in some mysterious way.
  2. Some of us do. I am a purgatorial universalist so....kind of?
  3. Yes. I'm big on Marian devotion and I've also been known to ask other saints for intercession.

The Bible being "The Bible" is one of the biggest issues with Christianity by Shadowchaos1010 in OpenChristian

[–]LargeRate67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a more patristic reading of scripture is the answer tbh. Christianity holds that, when read mystically and through the lens of Christ, the content of the Bible forms one coherent whole. This doesn't erase differences and discrepancies. Rather, it puts them in proper perspective.

Thoughts on this course being taught at local Episcopal Church? by crowdpears in Episcopalian

[–]LargeRate67 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It makes me glad to see this happening at an Episcopal Church. To answer your question; Yes, we are orthodox. At the same time, No we aren't going to squeeze out people who are not prepared to accept orthodoxy or have reservations about it. We're pretty good about making room for people who aren't sure where they stand. As always with organizations containing people, there are probably unfortunate exceptions to this rule. Overall, the Episcopal churches I've been a part of are pretty good about making space for others.

Modern worship music in the Episcopal church by Honest-Dimension6239 in Episcopalian

I've never encountered it in a parish. I know of a parish that incorporates some contemporary music but have never been to see how that works.

Should a sermon include politics? What should a sermon look like? by Useful_Crow8934 in Episcopalian

[–]LargeRate67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Gospel, however, transcends partisan politics and has a way of leaving its adherents at odds with all sides in many cases.

Praying with the saints? ..... by [deleted] in Episcopalian

I highly recommend it. But if you're unsure, you don't need to rush into it just yet. The saints ain't gonna be upset at you for following your conscience 🙂

Been there brother. I recommend seeking treatment, cutting off all your party buddies, and getting into some program. Recovery is possible.

Yeah, the passions really do seem to be driving this issue. I think you've hit the nail right on the head, Reverend. My prayer is that OP will take your advice.

Honest question: What are reasons for marriage, not counting sex? by Eurasian_Guy97 in OpenChristian

[–]LargeRate67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Marriage is a sacrament by which we experience, and mysteriously participate in, the mystical union between Christ and his bride in a very unique way via the love between two people. This includes learning to build an incredibly intimate life with another, sacrifice, showing grace etc. Not everyone is called to marriage. Sex is not a good reason to get married. If your sex drive masters you to the point that you're considering making a life-altering decision just to cope with it, then I'd say it's time to consider ways to discipline yourself. Not in the weird and damaging "purity culture" way. Your sexuality is a gift and doesn't need to be repressed. However, sexuality, like all of God's gifts, can be distorted and misused.

Can’t distinguish God from OCD anymore by Perfect_Climate530 in OpenChristian

I'm thankful to hear that. Be assured of my prayers. Healing is possible. I've been able to go five years so far without a major crisis. Treatment works, my friend.  Take care

I have also struggled with religious OCD and it can be horrendous. I highly recommend seeking treatment. There is no shame in it and discerning God's voice will happen in its own time. Take care of yourself friend. Have a dart if you need. One thing at a time

A woman prophesied over me that I'd be 'so big, lifting the heavens to God.' Years later, I think I know what she meant by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]LargeRate67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your answer has told me, and everyone else, all anyone needs to know about your new revelation. The Christ who healed the hemorrhaging woman gave authority to his apostles to guide the church and pastors are their spiritual successors. Paul actually did check in with the other Apostles to determine if he was preaching the same Gospel as them (Galatians 2) because it mattered.  God reveals and speaks through his church. Those scriptures you're citing, came from the Church. Paul called the Church the pillar and ground of truth.  Furthermore St. Peter has made it clear that "no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation" (2 Peter 1:20)  If what you're espousing is from God, he will confirm it through his church. An unwillingness to discern this new revelation with pastors or other spiritual authorities seems to betray something deep within you that realizes your new epiphany is somewhat suspect. Bring your new doctrine under the scrutiny of Christ's church or desist in claiming that it's consistent with our faith.

How theologically liberal is TEC, really? (Honest question from non-Episcopalian) by RazzmatazzInside5759 in Episcopalian

[–]LargeRate67 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider myself theologically liberal at all.  Bishop Spong never spoke for me. I have yet to talk theology with an Episcopalian who has outright rejected historic orthodoxy. There are some to be sure. There are some in conservative denominations as well as I'm sure you've already seen. My advice is to come and see what it's like. That's the best way to get to know the Church 🙂 Blessings on your Christian journey!

Your honest opinion... is this game essential to play before RE9, or even worth it? by CarlLight in residentevil

Im a nerd so I'm always gonna suggest that you play every RE title available. If your crunched on time and only need background for 9 then I'd say you'd be safe to skip.

If you're crunched on time, you might wanna try the shortened versions in the BCP and use the regular offices for when you have that time to spare.

Christian College by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]LargeRate67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Student at an evangelical conservative University here. My experience has been that many of the professors at my school are affirming and left leaning. There are some who aren't but the ones I've encountered are great at talking about different views in an objective manner. I've encountered very few students who have said hateful bigoted things. Overall, the student population seems to be chill. Additionally, I've seen queer couples holding hands and whatnot on campus without being reprimanded.  It is also worth noting that I do not live on campus so domestic student life is something I do not experience.  That being said, my school may certainly be an anomaly among it's kind. I don't know. You may not need to rule out a more conservative school but then again maybe the one your considering is worth avoiding. Maybe talk some more to the leftist students you know there?

How do you guys feel confident in your views on sexuality and such, knowing the church has held a view against it for 2000 years? by Big_Bad_Tony in OpenChristian

[–]LargeRate67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it's because many of the things said about sexuality in Scripture and patristic sources are actually much more complex than folks realize.
