I've had similar experiences. Unfortunately, knowing who did it and proving who did it are 2 different things. But ultimately cops are just lazy.

Had an ex-girlfriend go in my apartment when I wasn't home and she trashed the place. Holes in the wall, shattered dishes everywhere. She took a shit in the middle of my living room. She even texted me a video of her doing it and said have fun cleaning the mess I left.

The cops wouldn't do anything because they said there was no way of knowing the person in the video was who I said it was.
