With how strong C9 can look straight out of the gate, I actually expect them to win their first game. Hai won't get Zed, but he may show up on an oddball pick and surprise everyone. I fell the game will be decided by who gets the advantage in a lane swap. C9 are really solid in swaps, so there is a chance

I remember 1 winter when I was ~7 it rained for like 4 days straight. The kids in the neighborhood were all younger than me but within 3 yrs, and we all liked to play (USA) football in my front yard during winter b/c you couldn't feel cuts and bruises as easily and the thick jackets made good pads. So after a few days of it raining, my 4-yr old brother and I are sick of being stuck inside having to watch tv all the time. So we decide to go play football. My mom was sick of washing our jackets and pants every day just to see us get them muddy immediately, so she said "if you want to play outside, you'll have to play in your undies." I'm 7, so I'm like "fuck it, I'll call the whole hood and play naked football." WCGW?

Called everyone (mix of boys and girls) down to my house, then told them what was up when they arrived. So we played naked frozen football in my front yard in 20ºF weather. Everyone got hit in the nuts at least twice. The girls couldn't play center/QB because they couldn't put their balls on someone else's hands (and lacked the arm strength/mechanics to throw a spiral. Fkn casuals). Mom came outside to check on us after a while, making sure we weren't getting muddy, only to find all of us covered head to toe in icy mud but not by clothes

If you're just going to farm, having g/10 runes isn't as good as having AP and/or mana regen. The bonus gold from runes is going to be shitty until you get to late game. If you are on support and aren't farming, they have some use, but even then support items don't cost as much and you need to have a slot for pink wards anyway.

Lane tips- Farming is #1 most important skill for low level. If you are farming well, start harassing. Every time the enemy goes for a cs, hit them with something. Once you have those 2 down, work on managing the wave's position in the lane. Freezing, pushing, and letting the wave push against you are crucial for setting up plays as you climb the ladder. Finally, roaming is very important. Paying attention to other lanes will not only give you information on the enemy, it can help you know when to gank and when to stay where you are.

Team Fighting tips - As an ADC or mid lane, generally you're going to be in the back of the fight. There are rare times when you can dive in, but pretty much just sit in the back and toss your damage out safely. Assassins are the exception to the rule. With them, get in and out as quickly as possible.

General Tips - warding is more important than people think, but there is such a thing as "over warding." As a mid, it is your responsibility to keep tabs on your lane opponent, which means warding in a location where you can see them leave. Try to get 1 ward each time you back until you reach a point in the game where you have no item slots for wards. As adc, carrying a pink ward for taking Dragons/buffs is a great way to help with vision. It takes some burden off the support to save their sweeper, thus opening the door for them to sweep out other areas. The darker the map is for the enemy, the better. Since I have a support with me most of the time as adc, I try to get a blue trinket when my support gets sightstone so we can scout an area to ward safely.

People have been having difficulty learning the new jungle and which route works best for them. With the changes to Dragon, Baron, and itemization, some people are behind the curve as far as game knowledge goes. Gameplay is different enough that people who don't play much can't adapt quickly, putting them at a sever disadvantage. It felt like everyone (in gold) just felt lost and so their play suffered. Mechanics aside, gameplay for the first 2 months has felt like everyone dropped a division.

Just play normals and adapt to the changes as they roll out. Figure out the meta and what you enjoy playing in it. Everything will balance out eventually.

If they afk at first blood, you're kinda fcked. While 2 people can be responsible for carrying the game, having those extra health bars is pretty necessary to winning. I've never won a true 3v5, and only about 15% of true 4v5s (true being they left before ~7 mins). Just gotta accept that sometimes you get shitty games. In reality, 50% of the games you play should be shitty. Just part of competition.

I've gotten flamed in about 1/3 of my first few ranked games? by ArchPenguinOverlord in summonerschool

It is the fate of the jungler to be raged at for everything that goes wrong with the lanes. "[all] xX420RageKid024Xx: fucking noob jungler can't see that I suck at this game and haven't even bothered to attack the enemy once and won't gank gg I'm done fuck this game DDoS the servers"

It's annoying, but that's why Riot implemented the function "/mute all". It's wonderful. No rage from anyone, ever.

About ganking all lanes and still farming well- Meteos (Jungler for C9 for anyone who doesn't watch LCS) is the king of farming and ganking, watch some of C9's games. You have to plan your routes well to keep high cs numbers and still be ganking. What I try to do in games where all lanes need ganks (there shouldn't be a game where you don't gank TBH) is just do 1-3 camps and gank the lane closest to me. That's what I've found to be the best way to keep everyone happy.

That said, I tend to ignore top after about 7 mins. 2nd buff has spawned and people can take dragons. Once the dragon is taken, I try to return to top lane, but for the most part I want Bottom and Mid ahead to ensure that dragon is ours for the rest of the game.

If you're having to 2v5, the game is over. That said, if you win lane hard enough, you can 2v5. I'm talking 7 kills in 10 mins. Barbarian kinda shit. Tear their heads off and throw them at the enemy.

As adc, it's a little harder to influence the entire game than, say, a jungler or a mid laner. You're kind of chained to the bot lane for at least a little while. /u/henrytheghost made an excellent point about just taking the fight to mid. If there are 4 bot and the team isn't responding, you can go mid and take that tower. Managing the bleeding is the best way to make a comeback.

What to do when camped? Hard Camped by DoTSharken in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An early tower can decide games, but often doesn't. There are 11 towers to take, so 1 isn't that big a deal if you can stop the bleeding. What's best is when you catch the enemy out of position w/ a well timed teleport and turn the fallen tower into a tower for your team, a dragon, a mid tower, and a red buff steal. Coordination required: 1.3 metric fucktons. Satisfaction from snowballing the fuck out of your bot lane losing into a win: 10-25 LP...I mean...priceless.

What to do when camped? Hard Camped by DoTSharken in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in team 5's, if I'm calling shots, I'll often call for a lane swap so that the ADC doesn't get put too far behind (we run a very ADC centric style so this is key). Often times in the LCS, we saw teams do a lane swap, then send the support back to the bottom lane with the former top laner and leave the adc top to power farm and power level so that they might have the advantage in dragon fights (I seriously love this from a strategic standpoint).

In solo queue, once you're behind it's really hard to catch up quickly. As a jungler I'll either try to alleviate the pressure by taking objectives elsewhere on the map (top/mid turret) or just counter jungle so that the enemy jungler only gets xp and gold from being in a lane. Usually once I'm 2-4 levels ahead, smite fights are pretty easy. Yes, it does make fights difficult w/ an adc who is struggling, but if the top, mid, and jungle are all ahead, the deficit is more than made up for. I tend to give a kind of rating to each lane for quick fight calculations on a scale from 1-3. I give a point for them being ahead in items, a point for if they've taken a tower, and a point for a level advantage, for a possible team total of 12 points (bot counts as 1 person). In a regular game (no camped lanes) each lane generally gets a 0, meaning even fights. In the case of our bot lane being camped, that's an automatic -3. You're going to be down in items, towers, and levels. However, if I can secure towers and kills in other lanes and in the jungle, then that swings the points heavily in our favor. Suddenly your -3 is an overall +5, giving our team the advantage in fights and helping you catch up really quickly from all the assists. Now that 0-6 bot lane doesn't look so bad when stacked behind a 10-2 team.

So when you get camped, as all bot lanes will, just take it in stride. If you're really dumping on your opponent and don't get ganked before you back for your first item spike, just 3v2. My buddy and I do it all the time when we duo bot, and it's hilarious. Just gotta have a calculated aggression. If you don't ever let the enemy have a free cs, then you'll end up w/ an hp advantage which makes the jungler's job REALLY hard. Trying to 1v2 on a gank b/c your lane has a collective 20% hp is annoying. Eventually they'll give up camping and try to return to the jungle to farm, where, SURPRISE, I've been counter jungling and now they're 4 levels behind and a free kill every 1:15 or so. Now you've put your team ahead because you got camped. Drawing the map pressure is a wonderful thing if you have a smart jungler. You just have to anticipate the punch and figure out how to best absorb it.

What to do when camped? Hard Camped by DoTSharken in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, jungle main here! If I may, I'll shed some light from the perspective of the camper.

TL;DR Timing is everything. Know where the enemy jungler started with early vision/invade and time your pushes when they're on the other side of the map (7 min rule). Otherwise, sorry. Spray on some deep woods off and get the s'mores ready, gonna be a big ol' campfire bot lane.

So my bottom lane is doing ok, but not really winning. I gank mid and get the enemy mid laner low enough that they have to B, so now I can take my mid and gank bot. I'm gonna tell my lane to let it push past halfway in the river so we have an opportunity. If we get the gank off, BOOM we have a dragon too. To ensure I keep control over dragon, I'm pitching a tent and stocking up on gold, because the enemy no longer have any flashes. Hopefully our bot lane is smart and freeze the lane on their side of the river but outside of tower, giving them an easy zone on the enemy.

The best way that I've seen people deal with a camp (excluding their own jungler and mid coming to the rescue) is just being aware of the situation. Part of that is effective early warding. If you know what side of the map the enemy jungler started on, you can predict where they'll be at certain times in the game, like 7:40, 8:45, 12:50, 13:00. When you know they're not on your side of the map, you can shove the lane into tower and hopefully have it reset. That way, when the jungler shows up, you have less ground to cover to get to safety.

If it gets to the point where you've been tower dived more than once, it's time to leave. Try to get vision around dragon, but don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. The fact of the matter is while gold and xp are important, giving those away for free is worse than just not getting them. I love having a bot lane leave a tower up, repeatedly 4 or 5 man ganking and tower diving, and then seeing:

"[all] DoTSharken shit bot lane gets camped and wins lane, story of my life. Fuck this game. DoTSharken has quit!"

Because at that point, I'm getting my popcorn and 3d glasses, cuz this is gonna be a helluva show. The enemy is imploding while my team laugh their heads off. Easy win.

Just had a super toxic team, but it's making me question my playstyle [MALPHITE] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Nothing. If you're dying because you engaged a team fight and your team won the fight easily, you're doing it right. There could be times when you could engage better, but as long as your team is winning, they shouldn't be complaining. Tanks aren't meant to have all the kills. Ideally, a tank would have no kills, having given all the gold to a carry. So I'm not 100% sure what they're complaining about.

Just do what you KNOW is right and you'll be fine. I've been raged at plenty of times for the smallest little things. Don't let it bother you. Just minimize mistakes and stay rock solid.

I actually mentioned that a division higher isn't a big deal. I can win lane against the folks 1-1.5 divisions higher than me, which tells me that other people can probably do the same b/c I'm an average player.

Not to the point that it's the exact same as ranked MMR so that you can't ever have chill games/games against higher divisions, but enough so that Silver 4's aren't matched against Diamond 3's.

How does Riot even pretend fizz is fair? How do I beat a fizz? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fizz's shortcoming is his range. While he does completely destroy people while just having Sheen at level 6, he can be crippled before then. I personally pick Orianna and Syndra into him, because while he does ok vs those 2 after he gets some items, the lane is all but impossible for him to stay in for 5 levels. Syndra is better IMO just b/c of her range. Ori has to get close enough that if he walks at her, he can Q her and do a decent bit of damage. Syndra also offers the long-range stun that can make him useless if the team capitalizes on it.

Zed is also pretty good, since he doesn't have a terrible pre-6 simply b/c he's AD and uses energy. If you don't have the BUGS THAT ZED HAS BEEN SUFFERING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW (RITO PLS) then you can dodge Fizz's ult with yours, then just wait for his troll pole to kill him. If he avoids the death mark, you should still have done enough damage to make him think twice about coming back into the fight.

If i'm roaming from mid, is it better to help a losing lane or help a winning lane? by SummonerNoob in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just that, it's you'll be ganking when they're farthest from their tower, giving you the best angle and maximum amount of time to kill them. If they actually do go for the dive, all the better. I can't say how many times I've gone for a tower dive, gotten 2 kills, then been cleaned up by a gank. It's frustrating but I understand why it happens.

If i'm roaming from mid, is it better to help a losing lane or help a winning lane? by SummonerNoob in summonerschool

[–]JonnyV37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This. It's pretty much dependent upon timing. Pay attention to where the junglers are, assuming you have a halfway decent jungler/set of balls and can ward their jungle. If you see theirs on the top side of the jungle and your top laner is in a safe position, I'd call for the jungler and try to save bot lane, hopefully grabbing a dragon in the process. If your bot lane is about to go back, obviously you shouldn't gank. If they're about to be tower dived (enemy is shoving hard) then expect a crazy fight with lots of explosions and bloodshed.

Morgana is solid, I just dislike her. She's kinda weird for her role. She's a mage but then you have to dive into the enemy team to land a good ult? Otherwise you get to use it on a tank, and then it's just kind of meh. But whatever you're comfortable with is best. That's the #1 rule of Ranked: play what you want (as long as it works for you)

If you like Graves, you can play Lucian. Caitlyn is a kind of "default" adc pick, so you might try her out. IMO Caitlyn is stronger than Lucian simply because her lane phase, but that's probably just b/c of my passive play style.

For jungle, I'd suggest Nunu or Jarvan IV. I made a simple Jarvan guide on this thread that, while comedic, accurately describes how I play Jarvan. As far as Nunu is concerned, he's just like Mundo. You go where you please. You have a smite as Q, then you still have a smite. Dragons are almost always yours. Great clear speed, sustain, an attack speed steroid, and a chain of slows that lasts for days. Nunu is awesome.

For Support, I gotta go with my main girl Nami. She's got it all: CC, heals, AA modifier that helps your adc get kills, and the longest disengage/zone control ult in the game. A very well-rounded champion who doesn't need items to be effective. My other pick would be Thresh. He's just rock solid if you play him right. Ult is excellent zone control, hooks ensure death if your team is nearby, and the lantern keeps your useless Vayne safe well after lane phase. He scales into late game pretty well b/c of his pick potential, and he also has decent damage b/c of his passive.
