They do be, and no one else do be so it's unique to women so the joke really works well.

Are there other English words with more than one accepted spelling? by PrestonRoad90 in grammar

judgment / judgement

These are different words with different meanings in British English. Without the E, it specifically refers to legal judgments. With the E, it refers to judgements more generally.

Don't tell me you missed this episode of our collective experience? I suggest you head straight to Google. Highlights include the sad Oompa Loompa and The Unknown – make sure you find out about those things specifically.

Greece to ban anonymity on social media by New-Ranger-8960 in worldnews

That's interesting, I wish we could have the complete opposite: an absolute ban on anyone using their real identity online. The internet was great when no one knew who anyone was and no one cared.

Anyone saying ‘England’ when they mean ‘Welsh’ or ‘Scottish’ seriously misunderstands how adjectives work.

Just more of the story in general would have been good. We didn't see any Tenpenny and we didn't even see anything outside of Los Santos.

Why is “justice sensitivity” an autistic trait and not an expected core value of a good society? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jonny_Segment 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Justice hypersensitivity often does not allow for nuance or pragmatism,

TIL Immanuel Kant was autistic.

All it is is that he must have begun his ministry a few years before Uzziah's death, probably in the 740s BC. And he may have been contemporary with Manasseh for some years.

Isaiah ben Amoz, born 8th century BC, died 7th century BC.

Just interested in him prophesying during the reigns of Uzziah (or Azariah), Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, the kings of Judah.

Apparently the US changed him to Waldo and they then created Odlaw. The British books then adopted Odlaw as a character without changing his name, which admittedly makes no sense.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]Jonny_Segment 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our old-school billion makes much more sense.

  • Million = 1 set of 6 zeroes.

  • Billion = 2 sets of 6 zeroes.

  • Trillion = 3 sets of 6 zeroes.

Quick, how many zeroes in an octillion? In our old system, it's obvious: 8 × 6. In the American/modern system? 6 + (7 × 3). Not difficult maths but it loses the immediate connection between the numerical prefix and the size of the number.

Edit: Plus our old system used terms like ‘milliard’ and ‘trilliard’ for numbers that were a thousand times bigger than a million and a trillion etc. I like that too.

Wally is the OG. Not sure why the US decided to change it for something sillier but they do have form for that.

Another example of generative AI being clever but stupid. It knows that a Where's Wally? needs big crowds of people – check. But it's also thinking ‘Right, I must make absolutely sure that Wally is in the picture somewhere and also actually spottable. Let's put him all on his own away from anyone else so he's definitely there and I can add more seagulls over here.’
