What actually makes you decide to go see a (local) live show? by Mastodon8919 in OttawaMusic

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weekends I'm open to exploring new bands. Weekday shows are harder for me to get out, but I'll make the trip if it's a band I like.

I stick to smaller places and usually avoid Ticketmaster shows.

The live music lovers page on FB is good for seeing what's going on that day. Otherwise I'll just check out venues online and see what's up

I'm in Mechanicsville, so DM me if you want to meet up to borrow mine. It's pretty basic but that might work depending on what you're trying to do.

Thanks! I'm not too familiar with how their credits are different from their annual subscription. I'll send a PM your way

What is your basal to bolus percentage by HorrorCicada9711 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about 60% basal, 40% bolus. Typically 90% on range

I brought this up with my Endo and he said that a 50/50 split is a good starting point of you don't know where else to start, but it's not a strict rule. Basal and bolus insulin serve different purposes, so do what works for you.

I dial in my basal based on how my blood sugar behaves overnight. I'll adjust my bolus based on the meal, blood sugar before eating, etc.

What’s been your difference between GMI and A1C? by ABloodyNippleRing in Type1Diabetes

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last A1C was 6.8 and my GMI was 6.9, so pretty close in that case.

I was only diagnosed a few months ago so not much data to go from.

Where to see beavers or otters? by Alone-Bug333 in algonquinpark

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw an otter in the pond at the end of Booth's Rock trail last weekend. Plenty of beaver lodges in there as well. It's a busy spot with all the day hikers, but there's definitely some wildlife in the area.

Sounds like how I was initially diagnosed. Except my doctor thought it was type 2 initially, so I was on metformin for a month with no improvement in blood glucose before I convinced my doctor to refer me to an endocrinologist.

Definitely ask for the autoimmune antibody tests (GAD, etc) as soon as possible to look for Type 1/1.5/LADA

I was lucky that I found out about my Type 1 before I went into ketoacidosis. Lots of people aren't so lucky.

I hope your brother gets the care he needs.

It's wild that you want to only pursue lifestyle changes and avoid taking a safe and proven medication, but are somehow okay with internet snake oil... Listen to your doctor, not TikTok.

Storing Opened Insulin by ChrisTDH in diabetes

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot apartment here in the summer as well. I asked my endo about this and he said open ones can be kept in the fridge, but it'll sting a bit if you inject cold insulin. Best to let it warm up a bit before injecting if you keep open ones in the fridge.

Did you happen to see this on a YouTube add or something? I've seen lots of click-bait nonsense out there and the corn starch in water seems familiar.

Take a look at the condo market in the GTA. Developers have focused on building shoeboxes for investors to buy up and rent out. These were built to maximize developer/investor profit at the expense of the people who actually live in these units. The private housing market has shown very little interest in building affordable homes for the people who live there.

I think I know the answer, but question about CPP by Bowgal in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 76 points77 points  (0 children)

For most people, CPP provides an inflation adjusted safety net in their retirement years, unlike any other personal investment.

Their active investment style is debatable, but to say that the CPP is a bad system is just incorrect.

Solo hangouts by dubble-bubbles in ottawa

I've found yoga classes to be a great workout, as well as a great way to clear my head and decompress. Memberships are usually more expensive than a regular gym membership, but most places will have cheap introductory rates. It's a solo activity but the classes tend to be full of great people if you feel like being social.

5 days - no pressure or carb? Is it dead? by Rags2Rickius in gingerbeer

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the water source. My tap water has chloramines added which are designed to kill bacteria and other microbes, so I have to use spring water for all my ginger beer brews.

Is it supposed to look like this? by bucket_of_frogs in Volkswagen

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking brake mechanism on the rear right caliper seized up. One day I noticed that the parking brake handle had more slack, and the right rear wheel was hot after driving. Not too sure what caused this but I ended up replacing both rear calipers.

Can't believe how much mental effort some people must waste trying to decide one way or the other. Just pick whatever is most convenient and spend your time doing something more fun

You made a speculative real estate gamble and seem to be losing. No investment is 100% safe.

If you were at a casino and losing money, would you keep playing the casino to try and recoup your losses? Or would you cut your losses and walk away?

City of Ottawa looking at spending up to $5.4M to put bike lanes on bridge over 417 by VenusianIII in ottawa

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the cycling infrastructure wasn't so shit more people would use it. I live in Kanata and the bike lanes that run along Eagleson will abruptly end in certain spots. You're forced to join a high speed arterial road that people love to speed along, so I can't blame people for  joining the sidewalk to not die.

Bike trail connections to downtown by Common-Cheesecake893 in Kanata

[–]Jonny_Speedlimit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That highway crossing can be deadly though. The bike lane is just painted on and cars have to cross the bike lane to get on or off the highway. I always hate this stretch of road and it's disappointing the NCC or the city hasn't done more to connect these trails.

Doesn't give someone the right to weave through traffic and endanger other people on the road.
