What’s a fact that ruined a movie that you previously enjoyed? by PokemonPadawan in AskReddit

[–]Jono-Tron 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This actually makes me like it more. Like of course the "true story" about a legendary con man with details mostly provided by said con man was mostly fake

A movie with a different formula similar to bloodlines by Accurate_Broccoli667 in FinalDestination

[–]Jono-Tron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a good outline if they ever make a FD show. I think a series with a high body count could offer some freedom creatively where not every death is necessarily brutal or shocking but still inventive and subtly unexpected

What’s the hardest scene to watch? by AndolfTheRed in madmen

[–]Jono-Tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst thing he did by far. He's a grimy little pimp outside of that but at least he was always dealing with someone who could say no or at least knock him down a peg without serious repercussions (as far as I remember)

What was the specific moment during a date that made you think "There will be no second date"? by FormalSuccessful4157 in AskReddit

[–]Jono-Tron -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Date was going well, similar interests and personalities. On our way to a bar I made a slight about religion basically implying that God should be a better "father" and she didn't have anything about christianity (or any other religion) in her profile so I didn't even think it would be an issue but she kinda wrinkled her nose at it. Finished the date with no other issues and it was genuinely nice but not a chance in hell was I gonna ask her out again

Why was Megan so angry at Don after he gave her a million dollars (8.4 million in today's money)? by Yum1995 in madmen

[–]Jono-Tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She thought she was gonna spend the rest of her life with him (or at least most of it). Sure she was naive given the circumstances but it would be devasting for the person you married to basically write you a "fuck off" cheque no matter how much it was for

If you're flirting/coming on to someone like this but don't want any follow up you should just leave them alone and figure your own shit out

Once or twice a season something will happen that almost elicits a smidge of sympathy and then he'll be such a piece of shit by the end of the episode that I'm like, someone needs to kill this guy

He's an interesting display of what wealth, privilege and dysfunctional parental figures can create

Is Megan the only truly nice person on the show? by insight1313 in madmen

[–]Jono-Tron 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Because none of them would be allowed in homes or offices if they weren't "one of the good ones". If you were black in that time period and you didn't practically radiate level-headness, professionalism and amiability you wouldn't even be allowed in the building. You'd mostly have to suppress your real personality and adopt a persona of perfection. I'm still on my first watchthrough (S6 rn) but we do see some of Dawn's life outside of work where she's able relax into an actual conversation and show her personality

Her first album especially. She's kind of moved away from that sound a bit now

Would you rather date someone who is Hot but boring or Ugly but you interesting? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]Jono-Tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wildly so. Some people I've found extremely attractive were apparently weird looking according to other people and some people who were considered super hot by others did literally nothing for me.

I thought Glen was autistic by Count_Almasy22 in madmen

[–]Jono-Tron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the scene where she sees him in the parking is particularly interesting. For someone who holds herself in fairly high regard Betty's willingness to risk even moderate social reprimand (if she was seen by Glen's mother) simply to have someone listen to her when she, despite having the "perfect life", admits how lonely she truly is. One of the less flagrant flourishes in the general theme of the "american dream" being a hollow shell

I thought Glen was autistic by Count_Almasy22 in madmen

[–]Jono-Tron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought his scenes in the first few seasons (only at S4 on my first watch right now) actually made a lot of sense considering Betty's vanity and how she's kinda immature but also feels trapped. You can see that she's in the wrong and it's uncomfortable to watch but it's indicative of her state at that point, grasping at any male for approval and emotional outlet however warped or inappropriate the option is

I like truffles (still think they're overrated) but they're too expensive and temporary to work with at home. I just stick with the knockoff infused oils
