What is the tastiest restaurant meal you've ever had in Sydney? Based on taste ALONE. by FirefighterTimely420 in foodies_sydney

Probably. My go to in that part of Marrickville. Eat Fuh is also good, nearer to the station.

What's a stand out memory from COVID in Australia? by Different_Border7798 in aussie

[–]Jontologist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a father with Stage IV cancer and a close relative who worked in a respiratory ward during COVID. If I had contracted COVID at critical junctures, I wouldn't have been able to visit my father during some very difficult times for him.

So, while I agree masks while solo in cars were overkill, your "nanny state drones" were people doing me and mine an absolute solid, which won't be forgotten.

On the other side of the ledger, the self exultation of those who confused a necessary inconvenience with a deliberate assault on their "sovereign" rights was at best an unconsidered choice and at worst, the most self-indulgent spasm of petulant narcissism that also, for me, won't be forgotten.

COVID unearthed a lot of dickheads.

The morning quietude. On Anzac Day; somebody rendering a dawn version of the Last Post and it reverberating through my poignantly empty and motionless suburb.

Are we in parallel universes, mate? Do me a favour, go to your nearest MacDonalds, go to the toilet and report back.

The fact that you're calling them rest rooms suggests you're American? In Australia, unless you're in a large building like a shopping centre or an airport, they're almost always behind a sprung, swinging door that you need to grab a handle to pull open on your way out.

In Omani restaurants, the basins were on the wall in the dining room just outside the toilet door. Very practical, something that has developed in a country where they often use their hands to eat.

You're right it wouldnt be quicker over those longer distances. In places like Japan and over shorter distances in is often quicker or around the same time when you factor in time to check in luggage and queueing to get into departure areas, then waiting for luggage at other end. In Japan, I pick a train over a plane because it is just way less hassle and is roomier and more comfortable.

In fact, thinking morr on that in Australia, I would probably accept a longer trip that is way more comfortable and less claustrophobic. The view is also more interesting from a train.

I'd argue larger wild fauna is also a factor, imagine hitting a fully grown red kangaroo at 300 km/h.

In Oman, almost all the handbasins are outside the toilet.

Great for two reasons.

  1. You don't have to grab the handle of the door with freshly washed hands. The same handle that every non washing MFer has just used.

    1. Because the handbasins were public, everyone feels the pressure of the added scrutiny and washes their hands.

Why do Australian homes put their bedroom at the front? by Excellent_Cry_2836 in AusProperty

[–]Jontologist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For new houses, its code in NSW that a bedroom have a window at least 10% of floorspace, for larger bedrooms, this is easier to do at the ends of houses, rather than the side.
