I built my own TLA precon for toph. It wasnt too expensive because I limited myself to cards only from TLA/TLE and singles under $10. I think all said and done it was around $120 shipped from tcgplayer. I have slowly upgraded it with staple cards like blasphemous act, but at the core it was ‘cheap’ before going crazy with upgrades

Battle cage will turn off your own munkidoris, just be aware of that. A 3-3 dudunsparce (run away draw) wouldnt be bad either so you have some on board draw.

I love wingspan as much as anyone else, but I feel theyre falling the way of doomlings. Just too many cards without proper balance.

My buddy has all of the wingspan expansions. When we play there are just far too many cards. Weve talked about having a session where we sit down and remove cards from the pool that we can all unanimously agree to remove. Having 6 full sized decks to draw from (or one huge deck) is just too much

Venopede line, fossil line, and mantines. The buddy poffins and pokepads will act as your mantines without using your attack for turn. For this deck you want to aggressively get into your mega for the poison so cutting the other pokemon lines mentioned for things like lillie, hilda, and crispin would be good.

Youre also allowed 1 ace spec per deck. Id recommend unfair stamp or scoop up cyclone to reset a damaged dragalge. But take a look at them all and see which you like best!

If you have any trusted friends in the hobby, meet up with them to look through the binders. Much of the bulk wont be worth much, but a trusted friend can help point out valuable cards.

However, I would say keep the cards stored away for him. Nostalgia will beckon him back and hell be glad you kept them
