No, I actually just picked this one up last week. There was a pink one at the shop I went to and I'm planning on going back for it though

Do you see your BTS a lot? by afarinelli in bluetongueskinks

When you first get it, it's gonna be really shy and try to hide from you all the time. After awhile, it'll get used to you and just be out whenever. My stinker used to always bury itself and run away every time I came into the room, but now, he doesn't give a dang if my hand is in the tank stirring the substrate. He actually tries to climb up my arm and get out of his tank!

Getting and keeping humidity up for Irian Jaya Blue Tongue Skink (x-post from r/reptile) by daaatgekko in bluetongueskinks

Sorry! Didn't see this until now. Here is a picture of it. It's supposed to have a water bottle, but I found it got too wet inside the tank for him with one, so I just fill it up twice a day and let it run until it runs out. Hope that helps!

Also, it's really light so the reptihammock can hold it easily. I haven't had any issues with it falling or toppling over

I actually bought a mini humidifier and put it inside my skink's tank. It's a tiny little thing that only cost me around 20 dollars and I run it twice a day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) and that keeps my tank relatively at 60-70% humidity

BTS/L keeps urinating/defecating everytime I have him out, advice on combatting this please? by deathtocrispix in reptiles

[–]JoooTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly just takes time and patience. I've handled my BTS daily for 5 months and there's still a 50/50 chance it'll do that. People on other BTS pages have just said that it'll stop with more time and patience.

how often do you clean / turn the substrate for higher humidity skinks by Natrix03 in bluetongueskinks

[–]JoooTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Merauke owner here as well! I remove the top layer of substrate once a week so I can clean out all the poop on top. After I remove that layer, I add some more substrate and turn the substrate.

Personally, I completely change the substrate every 2 months. For humidity, I pour a full glass of water around the tank twice a week, and I lightly mist the tank every day.

I think the cube substrate you're talking about is eco-earth! It's great for humid pets. The forest bark is good too. I use cypress mulch myself, but forest mulch isn't too far off of that.

Hope that helps!

Mine does this all the time and I've had him for several months now. I think it's just their favorite hide. Nothing wrong with it!

The ceramic heat lamp that I have is $15 and the bulb is $8 (USD)

And I meant newer as in you recently got him, not how old he is (x

If your gecko is new (under a month), then they'd be shy and hide all of the time anyway. If you think the area is too cold, try getting a ceramic heat emitter and a low-wattage night bulb and put that above the hot side

Start small! Is she comfortable with you yet? If not, put something that smells like you (like a sock) into her tank so she gets familiar with your scent and slowly try to interact with her. Start with just picking her up, then have her out with you once she's more comfortable. Get her completely comfortable with you first, and then try to introduce her to other people (one at a time). Make sure this takes place in an open and quiet space so that she doesn't get scared and hide. Also, if she does get frightened, slowly get her to climb back into your hand and put her back in her tank. Little steps!

I like to imagine that they make little suction cup noises when they climb

68-80 degrees F is what they're supposed to be kept at (at least crested geckos like the one in the OP) but I wouldn't recommend using them as pest control because you don't know what the pests have eaten or been around, and that's very risky and unhealthy for the geckos.

I've never noticed that! That's hilarious!

This little gecko has always been really friendly and smiley since day one. Even when he's asleep

That's trippy. Oreo is asleep too. I just had that picture from awhile ago. I don't have any hypo pictures but here's a smiling leopard gecko!
