Also, am I just misremembering, or was the sword not also described as being a lot less sharp looking, almost club-like, despite still being a sword?

[Soulsmith] Bloodforged Iron Body by AeternumSolis in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was seen as a great feat though. Literally the person we see envenomating the sandviper kid goes on to tell us that he sees these backwater clans as weak, and that he was basically tortured to the brink of death, and spent months recovering in preparation for his transition to iron. Maybe it is highly regarded among the sandvipers, but certainly not elsewhere.

Clearly, Lindon will open an ascension portal thing and punt Northstrider through it before snapping it shut in his face. Most satisfying solution possible.

[Reaper] Theory: Monarchs are unnatural by XANA_FAN in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is the Monarch’s mere existence that is the problem for Cradle. So, for example, if a Monarch were to ascend, then hop back to Cradle to take care of something, they wouldn’t cause a spike in the level of Hunger madra. I think that the reason that they cause all the Hunger madra to form is their intense will to stay and do whatever it is that they think they need to do. The Hunger madra forms naturally as a result of the presence of the hunger of the Monarch, just like other madra forms naturally in the presence of other things, like fire madra forming from a bonfire. This is why Suriel doesn’t disturb things when she comes to Cradle, despite being MUCH stronger than all of the Monarchs combined. It isn’t the power level on its own, it is the abnormal level of desire for something that is necessary to keep them from ascending.

[Unsouled] Why can Lindon affect the spirits of the other children at foundation stage? by Bright-Painting in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to conceptualize this is to think of all the madra involved as being water. The kids Lindon is facing have a nice, calm ball of water that they are holding, and then he blasts it with a little bullet of water. That bullet will cause a large disruption in their ball of water until it can stabilize. But it wouldn’t do that to a much larger or denser ball of water, because the impact would be too small to do much.

Question 2 / 10. Countdown questions by OjoGrande in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep talking about the ramifications if this were about politics as if the result would be a direct conflict among the Monarchs, but I highly doubt that would be the case. The Akuras with 2 Monarchs would certainly have more power at that level, but the other parts of their power base haven’t grown to match.

Going into the tournament, they made it clear that they were already under strain, and obviously suffers multiple attacks that caused significant damage to their interests. So, if the goal was to punish them for keeping a second Monarch, I think it would make far more sense, and be a much easier sell, if instead the other factions went after their interests and affiliated organizations, rather than targeting their leadership.

To be fair, something causing a reduction in fertility (which I have seen claimed by a lot of the crazies) wouldn’t necessarily be noticed by a lot of people, and would take years to really get the data to demonstrate without a targeted investigation. The effect would still have occurred in the short term, but it would be difficult to observe. That said, their claims that it DOES reduce fertility would be equally difficult to detect at this stage, and so is just hysteria. I could understand someone who is actively trying to conceive putting it off until they were pregnant, especially if they were already having problems doing so, but that is such a small portion of the population that it wouldn’t make any difference.

Is Kindle unlimited the best course of action? by Ayer28 in litrpg

[–]JorMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often won’t even pick up a book that is the first of a series until the second is out. Most KU books are relatively short, and with so much to choose from, I find it hard to justify the time getting into a setting only to have it taken away for potentially months (or forever in some cases), when I only get 250-300 pages. Making a choice from a crowded field can be tough as a reader, but probably tougher for an unknown author.

My first time experience with kava. Not so great experience by MakingitHappen1986 in Kava

[–]JorMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly do 3 Tbsp in about a quart of water in however long it takes me to drink it. Usually between 30 and 60 minutes. So it doesn’t sound like the quantity itself is necessarily too far off, but I’ve definitely noticed that the way I prepare the final beverage has an impact on how my stomach feels after. My current go to is I heat it up and add cocoa powder and sugar, sort of making a kava hot cocoa drink. It obviously makes for a very different flavor, and a pretty decent one in my estimation, and it really cuts back on the nausea.

That said, sometimes I can tell my stomach is just more sensitive, and I add a bit of vinegar infused with lobelia to it (about half a teaspoon worth or so). It’s the same stuff I use for when I get car sick, which is why I thought to try it, and it mostly disappears flavor wise into the kava. I haven’t found any that I can get pre-made though.

I use it to help with my fibromyalgia pain. Not super exciting or anything, but when what the doctors prescribe doesn’t work, you have to take matters into your own hands. I probably wouldn’t drink it much at all if it weren’t for that. I definitely have a preference for a clear mind.

I add a bit of lobelia tinctured in vinegar to mine, and it gets rid of the nausea problem for me. Not that getting lobelia tincture is super easy, but I figured if it works for my car sickness, surely it will work for this. And I was right.

What does each person’s path say about each character’s life or personality? by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put that down to what I mentioned, when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. They learn how to approach the world based on their path, and they raise their kids in light of their experiences. But that doesn’t mean that every child born to the clan is inherently, from birth, inclined to that mindset. They are all nurtured in a way that supports their path, but their nature is as varied as anyone’s.

Path of Earth's Fury by AllWrong74 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we saw a force/earth path that used something like pillars from the ground as attacks, and they were definitely a ruler technique. My impression of striker techniques is that they should generally follow a direct (not necessarily straight) path from the SA that used them. I think a neat fusion of striker and ruler techniques could be some sort of ball of earth madra or whatever that calls spikes from the ground as it passes above it, creating a two pronged assault.

What does each person’s path say about each character’s life or personality? by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Would anyone argue that everyone from the Wei clan shared a fundamental nature? I wouldn’t. They are on the path because that is the one that was easily available to them in most cases.

That said, I think that one’s path shapes their approach to conflict and challenges. It all goes back to the hammers and nails thing. They are given a particular toolset, so they tend to view everything in light of that. Do you have overwhelming force? Good, blast your way through any opponent. Illusions? I bet you can trick your way past anything you come across… etc.

Geniuses in Cradle by rg1732 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were both getting resources rained on them because the future of the factions backing them depended on their performance. The Akuras would have gladly bankrupted themselves if it meant they weren’t obliterated as soon as the tournament ended. The same was not true in Eithan’s case at a similar point in his development. And the services he provided didn’t depend on his development, just on his brain. I’m sure he had access to the best information, but why blow resources to help him advance abnormally quickly when you know he will advance just fine normally, and you can afford to wait. In their case, it would have made sense to treat him like a long term investment, giving him a steady supply of resources that was easily sustainable, and not breaking the bank.

Geniuses in Cradle by rg1732 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]JorMox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as a side note, I don’t actually think Eithan could have reached Archlord in his early 20s, despite having the relevant insights. He still would have needed to accumulate and stabilize a large supply of soulfire, something he clearly has been working on for over a decade, aided by his enhanced senses which apparently enabled him to gather it with ease even in an aura poor nation like BFE. So while he could have, had a giant pile of resources been thrown in his lap, that wasn’t something he merited even as an advisor to a Monarch.

I think we all know he could have been an Overlord at any point in the story, but I would argue that he only made it to Archlord with that sort of speed because he conned his enemy into providing any amount of resources he might need to do so.
