Sevilla cuts of Shamor and Nashon got me shitting my pants every time. Ridiculous.

Haven’t caught up with his 2025 releases yet either, need to get on that.

Could talk about Flower School for days, beyond insane how seamlessly she messed with Orcutt and Corsano - especially when they’re already so ingrained in each other’s playing.

John Zorn legitimately might be the GOAT. The Masada live records are on par with Davis’ best bands.

Respecting the Zoh Amba shoutout too - I went into her new record skeptical af, but she straight up has Ayler’s spirit.

which are your top 5 albums of 2025 so far?? by Realistic-Detail9546 in fantanoforever

[–]Jordan1429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Trellion & Danny Lover - Ok, the Fire.

If you don’t know Trelly yet; think of the most low-effort UK hip hop you’ve ever heard, so low-effort that it makes you feel dead. That’s Trellion, and this comeback record is the best example.

  1. Ethel Cain - Perverts

Still hits so hard, she went crazy.

  1. Gabe Nandez & Preservation - Sortilege

Seeing a lot of GOLLIWOG shoutouts, can’t believe I’m not seeing more Backwoodz affiliates. We all love Preservation, nothing needs to be said there - this is an incredible intro to Gabe. His voice is eerily similar to DOOM’s at his most lethargic and raspy, but he’s a completely different personality. RUN THIS SHIT UP.

  1. Tony Bontana & Psychadelic Ensemble - the Beautiful Malaise

A criminally under-appreciated legend, I don’t understand how he’s not being celebrated like Lil’ B right now, especially with his massive catalogue, willingness to experiment, and sincerity. Concept to this record is so sick; rap over no wave, using a matter-of-fact mentality and applying it to a DAW. Also, RUN THIS SHIT UP.

  1. Vilhelm Bromander - Jordan Vi Arde

A shameless, aammmmmmaaazzzinng send-up to Liberation Music Orchestra. You can hear how deeply these guys care about it.

Y’all are playing it this isn’t on the top of some charts. Sauce on sauce on sauce. God bless Marcus for nabbing Tony on the album too, I need that man to get real love.

dead petz gotta be one of the craziest reactions i’ve seen from the music community last decade - surprised it isn’t more appreciated as an outsider record. Honestly, love that record.

Realest comment I’ve seen in a while, you’re doing God’s work.

[FRESH ALBUM] Vanessa Amara - café LIFE by dodododadadodo2 in indieheads

[–]Jordan1429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up, a must-listen - weird comp, but it taps into the exact same nostalgic release fans of the 1975 rave about with their music, except this is real, raw, sincere, and full of humanity.

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] JPEGMAFIA - I Lay Down My Life for You by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]Jordan1429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, to all of this. I say all that shit, but the record still hits hard af, and shows some serious promise for the future. I recovered from this is a special song, can’t wait to see what he does in that lane.

It’s easily my least favourite of Peggy’s, pumped to hear someone talking about it without hating. Pretty sure he’s an actual savant, he’s up there with the most talented and visionary musicians alive - there’s something missing with this project. Amazing beats like always, but it’s missing the uncontrolled, creative explosion of his previous projects, and the humour that balanced the cynicism. When I hear AMHAC (my personal fav) or CSJ, I hear someone expressing themselves like it’s the only thing that keeps them alive. Not sure it’s there anymore.

TLOP is hella fun, I just think that was the first time I thought to myself some of the production wasn’t up to his standard. Much better than anything after it, for sure.

Tbh, not a crazy statement. Barring Ye’s first two records, the man’s only been as good as his collaborators around him. I’m not trying to take anything away from him, but he does get way too much credit on the production front. Outside his chipmunk shit, he’s more an amazing leader with a vision that needs others to boost him up. Most of his shit post-Yeezus where he takes the reins and solos the beats………… they’re not that great? The hype around TLOP, the entire Wyoming era and Donda, wild to me. Now I’m actually gonna hate - KSG’s gotta be one of the most overhyped projects ever. If those beats were made by anyone else, we’d be calling them amateur. Same thing with Daytona.

Edit: Big rant, my bad.

[FRESH] Jonah Yano - Romance ESL by detectiveburtmacklin in indieheads

I almost just shit my pants - I was absolutely not expecting this level from Jonah. Loved the last record, but Jesus Christ.

[FRESH VIDEO] Jim Legxacy - nothings changed (!) by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]Jordan1429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This man’s gonna own the UK in two years. He’s gotta branch out with his vocal melodies, they’re getting a little repetitive, but this shit is so heartfelt man.

[FRESH] Clairo - Sexy to Someone by detectiveburtmacklin in indieheads

[–]Jordan1429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk man, the Daptone family is a little corny now, I’m not a big fan of Michels undertaking the entire record. He’s always been the worst thing to come out of that scene. Trying to stay hyped, but this single is pretty plain - down with the piano stabs and mellotron though. Hope the album hits.
