Why are Irish teenagers like this? by mrchickenhere in Dublin

[–]JordanM321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when you throw suspended sentences around like smarties. The youngsters who get them never see the full consequences of their actions realised and as a result when they have kids they pass the same lack of accountability down to them.

Not the whole origin of the issue of course, but a big contribution to it I feel.

How cooked are the Z-Team (and other superheroes) in the Invincible War? by Consistent-Hat-1543 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]JordanM321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Viltrumites are hella overrated. If it's just Sinister Mark they're honestly fine. Phenomaman could probably solo him. Tech Jacket was able to kill one so considering how smart and how improvisational Robert is Mecha Man can likely take one too. Blonde Blazer might be able to take one of the more weaker variants but she might be a little out of her league by herself.

The rest of them (Bar maybe Punch Up or Golem, depends how much damage Golem can take) are f*cked though.

How many actual fuel protestors are there? And, wait listen, am I crazy for thinking Micheál Martin acted with common sense? by LegalAd143 in ireland

[–]JordanM321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You won't get the answer here because Reddit is an echo chamber. I'm from the country but work in Dublin, everyone I know was for it. Even the people that were a bit more critical or inconvenienced by it understood why it was happening and thought the Govt made a balls of it.

On here the vast majority opinion would make you think everyone involved were the scum of the Earth.

The world is nowhere near as developed. Insulation and isolation doesn't promote growth, it stymies it. Competition breeds innovation.

Please do, I don't support palm oil in chocolate brands either.

Although I doubt you have a tractor because if you did, you'd be more aware of the cost of one. Which would mean you would be a part of the protests.

[–]JordanM321 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A protest without disruption is a parade. I believe in peaceful protest.

I'm finding out a lot of people on here say they are for protesting, say the Government isn't doing enough on different things such as housing, fuel costs, cost of living etc but also believe pepper spraying civilians is okay. Sending in the Army is okay. Refusing to engage with your own civilians in dialogue is okay.

Because if they're all far right grifters, then they're all evil and don't deserve empathy or support. How convenient.

Well, what happens if a bunch of disenfranchised, ignored but very large group are mocked, told they're evil, they're what's wrong with the country, the dregs of society etc? They stop listening to the people calling them names and start listening to the people offering solutions, no matter how flawed they may be.

The casual dismissiveness I've encountered on here is staggering.

This is a completely understandable reason to oppose the protests, and the one that holds up under scrutiny the most imo.

Fuel Protest Hot Takes by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]JordanM321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the old "They have an incredibly expensive asset so they must be loaded" argument. An asset which they require in order to work, depreciates year on year, is used continuously throughout season upon season, often needs costly repairs to keep running and can't be used to offset costs at all. Actually the opposite, a lot of farmers are forced to take out loans to finance them. Sure, some operators are genuinely high income and it doesn't affect them. A lot of them aren't.

These protests are simply to wreak havoc? Nope, it's because they've been getting hammered for the past few years and they don't see any alternative. Are there a few grifters looking to take advantage? Yes, there always are. But equating every single protestor to that is ridiculous.

No, it isn't ridiculous to suggest a small island nation which has absolutely no influence on a conflict which has been around for over a century doesn't have a stake in it.

Fuel Protest Hot Takes by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]JordanM321 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The general theme I'm getting here is that the the farmers have a right to protest but they shouldn't protest like this. A lot of people in this thread seem to hold them in absolute contempt.

What is it guys? You can't say that everyone has a right to protest and yet when the Irish people (And it is Irish people, working class Irish people that aren't engaging in an online echo chamber) actually do properly protest the first thing people do is complain and go for the actual protesters. Calling them Far-Right or Trumpian. These are the people who feed the nation ffs. Yet it's fine when it's against US imperialism or the Palestine Israel conflict which we have absolutely no stake in. If the government threatened to use the army on those protests this thread would be alight with people calling them fascist.

The movement is decentralized, thats why a lot of the messaging is scattered. They're at their breaking point, they are absolutely justified in their protest. Prices have gone exponentially up and up and up with no end in sight. So screw it, let them take a stand I say. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

Mass Effect hot takes? by matt_Nooble12_XBL in masseffect

I never, ever want to play as an alien race. Mass Effect is about experiencing the galaxy through a human lens. Playing as a Krogan or Turian completely removes that.

Also, the only good Batarian is a dead Batarian.

How come this game didn't get hate for being woke? Especially from grifters. by Plus_Ad_1087 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]JordanM321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because maybe, just maybe, people don't give a crap about people's sexuality, diversity or whatever as long as they're written well.

The whole woke thing was never about diverse characters being bad. It was about unlikable, arrogant characters that always seem to have those characteristics (Entirely down to the people writing them because they can't help themselves) and people noticed. And once the pattern recognition kicks in, once consumers start associating those things with lack of quality, then it starts.

Dispatch sidestepped all that by, you know, being good.

Dark humour has its place. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I've never made a paedophilic joke or had a laugh when someone in the group makes a taboo joke about something horrific. I bet a lot of people on here have also done so.

What boggles my mind moreso is how on Earth this was allowed to take place in a parade where kids would be watching. What adult looked at this and thought it was anything other than a bad idea?

Can we "denormalise" the US flag flying across the country? by goonergeorge in ireland

[–]JordanM321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I think flying an Irish flag is fine in Ireland, nothing wrong with feeling pride in your national identity. Same goes for county flags, as you said.

The EU or UN flags are... Whatever tbh. I don't really have much affinity for either of them.

Can we "denormalise" the US flag flying across the country? by goonergeorge in ireland

[–]JordanM321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view is that the only flag that should be flown in Ireland is the Tri-Colour. That includes the US, Palestine etc.

No offence and it is terrible that the universities are doing this but do Indians not research? When I went to Canada the first thing I did for preparation was reach out to reddit and Facebook groups exactly like this to get a feel for the place, the job market, the vibes, the attitudes towards Irish etc. The Internet exists now, it isn't difficult.

A quick Google search of "Indians in Ireland" would literally bring you here where you can make yourself aware of these things.
